Upload is a series of Amazon Prime Videos that has been on everyone's lips for a week now and maybe for no good reason. Watching the pilot is not difficult to understand why many people liked it and impressed few others. The distinction is mainly about the market share and the target audience. A young audience and maybe not so many TV series, an audience without big serial experiences and with little desire to watch the "how" a TV series is made, its overall impact and the much abused word quality. This type of viewer will have seen in "Upload" a breath of fresh air, a very original TV series never seen before. Beautiful, charming, funny protagonist. Genius scenic ploys. Futuristic concept. First-rate special effects and a healthy "Romance". Of course this set of things have attracted the attention of this type of viewers. And it should. From this point of view, the series gets a very high rating.
But...
If you're a spectator, like me for example, who has hundreds of TV series behind him, has seen everything, you like cinema, narrative coherence, character and story development, you look at the substance of things and doesn't stop at the appearance then "Upload" can't get very high marks. It adds nothing to the serial landscape. The visual and narrative impact was of the type: "I'm looking at a reboot of 'The Good Place'"? That's it, but without that philosophical aftertaste of the recently finished TV series that had a much more analytical touch on life and its meaning. A handsome but questionably talented protagonist. You find them brilliant but behind which he seems to hide very little. That's why "Upload" can be summarized as a TV series that wanted to copy The Good Place without knowing how to capture the deeper essence. A series of excellent entertainment, well confined, fresh, but that adds nothing to the contemporary serial landscape. That's why Upload appeals so much to many and little to others. And that's okay.
Upload è una serie di Amazon Prime Video che è oramai sulla bocca di tutti da una settimana e forse per nessuna ragione valida. Alla visione del pilot non è difficile capire perchè sia cosi piaciuta a molti e abbia impressionato poco altri. Il distinguo riguarda soprattutto la fetta di mercato e di spettatori di riferimento. Un pubblico giovane e magari con alle spalle non tantissime serie tv, un pubblico senza grosse esperienze seriali e con poca voglia di stare a guardare il "come" è realizzata una serie tv, il suo impatto complessivo e la tanto abusata parola qualità. Questa tipologia di spettatore avrà visto in "Upload" una ventata di aria fresca, una serie tv originalissima e mai vista. Protagonista bello, affascinante, simpatico. Geniali escamotage scenici. Concept futuristico. Effetti speciali di primissimo piano ed un pono di sano "Romance". Ovvio che questo insieme di cose abbiano calamitato l'attenzione di questo tipo di spettatori. Ed è giusto che sia cosi. Da questo punto di vista la serie ottiene un voto altissimo.
Ma...
Se siete uno spettatore, come me ad esempio, che ha alle spalle centinaia di serie tv, ha visto di tutto, vi piace il cinema, la coerenza narrativa, lo sviluppo di personaggi e storia, guardate alla sostanza delle cose e non si ferma all'apparenza allora "Upload" non può ottenere voti altissimi. Non aggiunge nulla al panorama seriale. L'impatto visivo e narrativo è stato del tipo: " Sto guardando un reboot di 'The Good Place'"? Ecco, ma senza quel retrogusto filosofico della serie tv da poco conclusa e che aveva un tocco molto più analitico sulla vita e sul suo senso. Protagonista belloccio ma di talento discutibile. Trovate geniali ma dietro le quali sembra nascondersi poco. Ecco perchè "Upload" si può riassumere come una serie tv che voleva copiare The Good Place senza saperne cogliere l'essenza più profonda. Una serie di ottimo intrattenimento, ben confenzionata, fresca, ma che non aggiunge nulla al panorama seriale contemporaneo. Ecco perchè Upload piace tanto a molti e poco ad altri. E va bene cosi.
