Vikings is a series that's somehow dragging on too much. Arrived at the sixth and last season it still manages to give good episodes and great fratricidal struggles but has lost the consistency that distinguished it in the early seasons. The impression is that there are too many episodes compared to what is told. It would have been absolutely appropriate to condense the events in half the episodes. And so we get to the final midseason, which will also be the final midseason of the TV series, with a certain tiredness. The episode itself is one of those epic ones to which the series has often accustomed us, but the landing to yet another clash between Ivar and Bjorn has been very uneventful. To tell the truth, even the resolution of the battle in question seemed hasty, so hasty that many people wonder if what we saw really happened. A passage from one scene to another, from one battlefield to another that instead of giving us a sense of the breadth of the battle itself, ended up bewildering us. The staging was as good as ever and blood spilled as we would have expected from a clash between the best Vikings in history. It 'lacked linearity and also missed the expectation of war that in other circumstances had been able to make well the anxiety and torment of the protagonists in approaching the war. There are still 10 episodes left at the end and although there are still a thousand things to tell you have the feeling that everything is quite hazy and that there are no more new, intriguing and exciting things to tell. We'll see.
Vikings è una serie che in qualche modo si sta trascinando troppo. Arrivata alla sesta ed ultima stagione riesce ancora a regalare ottimi episodi e grandi lotte fratricide ma ha perso la costanza che la contraddistingueva nelle prime stagioni. L'impressione è che siano troppi gli episodi rispetto a quello che viene raccontato. Sarebbe stato assolutamente opportuno mettere condensare gli eventi nella metà degli episodi. E cosi si arriva al midseason finale, che sarà anche l'ultimo midseason finale della serie tv, con una certa stanchezza. L'episodio in se è di quelli epici a cui la serie spesso ci ha abituato ma l'approdo all'ennesimo scontro tra Ivar e Bjorn è stato molto poco incisivi. A dire il vero anche la risoluzione della battaglia in questione è sembrata frettolosa, talmente frettolosa che molti si chiedono se davvero quello a cui abbiamo assistito sia realmente accaduto. Un passaggio da una scena all'altra, da un campo di battaglia all'altro che anzichè darci il senso dell'ampiezza della battaglia stessa, ha finito per spaesarci. La messa in scena ottima come sempre e sangue versato come ci saremmo attesi da uno scontro tra i migliori vichinghi della storia. E' mancata linearità ed è anche mancata l'attesa della guerra che in altre circostanze aveva saputo rendere bene l'ansia ed il tormento dei protagonisti nell'avvicinarsi alla guerra. Mancano ancora 10 episodi alla fine e sebbene ci siano ancora mille cose da raccontare si ha la sensazione che tutto sia abbastanza nebuloso e che di cose nuove, intriganti ed esaltanti non ve ne siano più da raccontare. Staremo a vedere.
