Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)

Review by @sheikhshaon · 1143d · of Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Hello movie lover friends, how are you all? There was a horrible time when our societies considered it a curse to be born female and after that women were considered a burden to the family from a young age. As a result, a dirty system of giving dowry was introduced at the time of marriage of women and its continuation can be seen and known even today. Through such a heinous practice, women's lives were seen as a commodity within our social system.

On the other hand, it can be seen that in the society, the birth of a son in the family was considered to be good luck and wealth of the family. Because a family can protect themselves through their son throughout their life and earn a lot of money as dowry when the son is married off. As a result, family members always shower extra love and care on their sons. It could be seen that if the son and daughter in a family were evaluated from two different points of view by the uneducated barbaric class people in our dirty society.

But with the passage of time the process of valuing women started to change and as a result we now see women roaming freely in all sectors. Just as a man can become an asset to a family, society and country, similarly a woman can become an asset to a family, society and country if given the right opportunity. But the woman who once sought freedom to increase her honor and dignity, the woman in the present time has repositioned herself as a commodity by seeking freedom. However, in today's world, both men and women are addicted to making their lives a product through competition.

Sadly, when people were an uneducated and barbaric race, women's lives were commoditized through the practice of dowry. But even more distressing, even after being educated, people in our society are turning their daughters' lives into commodities through marriage fees. As a result of which it can be said that even after being educated, we could not learn to retain the right education in life. Through the movie that I am going to tell you about today, we will get to see real events about women's undervaluation and dowry system. Let us introduce you today's interesting movie.

Movie Review:

In the beginning of the movie, we can see very well how in our patriarchal society women are seen as a burden on the family and the hindrances for women to fulfill their dreams. How our patriarchal society sees the birth of a female child as a sad event and the birth of a male child as a blessing to increase family honor and wealth. Moreover, we get to see such a family management system through the movie, where the case of a father underestimating the decision of someone else in the family other than his own can be well known and understood.

In its continuation we see the Ambarnath family, where Ambarnath is a pasant at heart and has become a wealthy man in the society by running a usury business. Ambarnath rejects his elder son's love to get a huge dowry by getting him married as per his choice and forces his elder son to marry by feigning illness. As a result, a father's decision has no bearing on the family's decisions.

Also, Ambarnath's younger son Badri, despite being educated, is managing his father's sudh business well and prepares himself for marriage after his elder brother's marriage. However, it turns out that Badri falls in love with Vaidehi during his elder brother's wedding and his friend Somdev interestingly proposes marriage to Vaidehi's father and very cleverly introduces Badri's father Ambarnath to Vaidehi. Apparently, Ambarnath wants to know if Vaidehi's father can provide a respectable dowry for his younger son's marriage and agrees.

But since Badri is poorly educated and has no separate job of his own and looks after his father's business, Vaidehi variously informs Badri not to marry him. But as a father, Vaidehi's father wants to reduce his responsibility or family burden by marrying off his two daughters honorably while he is at work. Due to which Vaidehi agrees to her father's words and meets Badri to inform about her elder sister's marriage.

Vaidehi informs Badri about the problem of how a younger sister gets married before the elder sister's marriage. As a result, Badri and his friend find a good boy for Vaidehi's elder sister and arrange their marriage. However, it can be seen there that the boy's father demands a large amount of money as dowry from the girl's side. To get Vaidehi, Badri arranges all the dowry money secretly with the help of his elder brother and sister-in-law and interestingly, Badri and Vaidehi get married.

However, it can be seen that even after Badri tried, Vaidehi ran away on the day of the wedding. It is said that Vaidehi left unmarried to fulfill her dream and started working as an airhostess. Badri's father wants to find and kill Vaidehi to dishonor his family. Badri is forced to listen to her father's words and goes to find her lover and Vaidehi tells Badri about all her problems and her dreams.

Badri realizes with difficulty that Vaidehi has left her loved ones to pursue her own dreams and prepare herself to be a guardian of her family. Seeing Vaidehi's beautiful thoughts and actions, Badri realizes his father's mistakes and learns how to love women and how to help women fulfill their dreams. As a result, Badri returns to his father despite the wonderful love between the two and exposes the wrongs of the patriarchal society.
