Movie Review for "Black Adam" (2022)

I saw Black Adam with my family at a movie theater over the weekend and the entire theater laughed and cheered throughout the entire film. I found myself giggling as well and very surprised with how much I enjoyed the movie. The DC cinematic universe has left a lot to be desired and other than Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Batman versus Superman, Aquaman, and Peacemaker, I haven't really been all that impressed.

But Dwayne Johnson, who some might also know by his other super-famous moniker as The Rock, is an A-list actor with a pretty decent career so far. Every Dwayne Johnson movie I've seen in recent memory wasn't exactly Oscar-worthy but never failed to leave me entertained or laughing quite a few times.

After going the super-serious route, the DC cinematic universe is taking a page out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and not just going for comedy but putting a twist on their iconic characters as well.

Without spoiling much, Black Adam is about an anti-hero who wakes up after five thousands years of slumber to find his people being oppressed by international powers and a team of superheroes hunting him due to his infamous past.

Dwayne Johnson does a great job demonstrating the physicality of Black Adam, the violent no-nonsense antihero type who secretly has a heart of gold. Black Adam's tragic backstory was a bit cliche and poorly done but it still managed to slightly tug at the heartstrings enough to make him overall redeemable -- plus the most alluring part about his character is that he's not the typical superhero. He's here for himself, his people, and his own personal code of justice.

If I were to grade this movie, I'd give Black Adam a solid "B."

I saw this movies, and I agree it was the right mix of tragedy, redemption and an Anti-hero, something we don’t get to see much anymore.
