IT Welcome to Derry E05, imo was the one that really cranked up the tension and delivered some wild ass moments that got me and even my wife glued to the screen considering she is not into horror stuff, this thing is starting to put all pieces together from the che iss board. The whole setup with Leroy moving his family to the base after learning about General Shaw operation made sense, dude realized his kid was in danger and had to make a move or at least try to protect them from whats happening in Derry. Shaw wanting to capture IT and put it on a leash is some next level stupidity though, like what the hell was he thinking, classic military dude thinking he can weaponize something he does not understand or at least does not want to understand what he is actually dealing with, thats what Im getting from his character. The kids heading into the sewers to save Phil was ballsy as hell, specially after they find out Maddie was actually Pennywise the whole time posing as him probably since the first episode, thats a long ass time for him to be faking it. That reveal where Maddie is singing Down with the Clown in the water was creepy but I wish they did not show Bill Skarsgard in the trailer because waiting five episodes to see him should have been kept as a damn surprise, that would have been mental considering most people who watched the movies knew this moment was coming but still experiencing it without it been spoil on the trailer would have made it way more impactful, but I guess it was obvious too. When Pennywise finally showed up with that classic charging scene and the mouth opening, it was cool to see him freeze up because of that dagger Lily found out of nowhere or at least for me it felt like that, she was just lucky at the right moment but also felt earned after all the setup they been doing through out the episodes, getting small details here and there that make the payoff better when it finaly arrives.

Source The whole military mission with Hallorann getting possessed and opening the box in his mind was trippy, not going to lie that type of physic stuff always gets me more interested than the gore and killing, when ever theres psychic horror involved it alway hits diferent. That scene with his grandpa transforming into IT was horrifying and now we got zombie Paulie walking around which is gonna be insane I bet how Hallorann starts to see dead people left and right and he already mention that if they start talking to him thats "Wasted..." right there, specially when you consider Leroy still dont know what happen down there. The episode also set up Charlotte meeting Ingred Kersh who is clearly working with IT at least thats my impression, so that whole thing is about to get dark and its a very confusing character because you dont really know if she is evil, good or just trying to survive in between all this chaos, Ingred's husband gave me major creep vibes too like that dude is definitely hiding something or he is just weird as hell or possessed by IT, idk. That part when Charlotte sees the cop smiling at her with Pennywises grin was such a cool way to show how IT can just mess with peoples heads any where in town without even physically been there, I saw a review where they mention it was just a racist cop although I doubt it since we have seen that smile before, its always watching and listening and knows what your afraid of which makes him way more dangerous than any other monster out there, this is what I always loved about Pennywise, not just that he can kill you but that he can make you go insane before doing it, its like Freddy times x1000.

Source The reveal that Mrs Kersh is actually the daughter of Bob Gray the clown from 1908 that Pennywise killed and took his identity is such a big piece of lore that I did see coming at all but was not so clear, it was just my assumption, like I knew there was something up with her but not that, now the question is did IT kill her too and is pretending to be her or is she actually alive and just working with IT for some reason witch makes no sense unless IT has some kind of control over her, I guess we will find out in later episodes. The way they showed the flashback with the little girl clown and connected it to present day Ingred was very smart writing, makes you go back and rethink everything you saw earlier knowing what you know now, thats the type of stuff I like when shows do it right and dont just throw twists at you for shock value. The whole idea that IT can take human forms for long periods of time and live among people is terrifying, like how many people in Derry could actually be IT just walking around pretending to be normal, that adds a hole new layer of paranoia to the show that I wasnt expecting but absolutely love because it makes you question every single character thats been introduce so far. Shaw talking about the 13 pillars and how they trap IT inside Derrys borders was another big reveal, finally we get some actual explanation on why IT never leaves the town and why its been stuck there for so long eating kids every 27 years, the tribe buried those pillars hundreds of years ago to cage IT witch is smart but also means if Shaw manages to move those pillars around he could basically relocate ITs hunting ground to any where in the world witch is a terrible idea.

Source Penelopewise going after the military guys in the sewers was brutal as hell, that Uncle Sam transformation where he eats those two soldiers was such a cool design choice, showing how IT uses American fear of war and draft to kill people, very smart way to tie in the Cold War paranoia thats been building all season with ITs feeding habits. Dick Hallorann having his psychic box opened by IT is probably gonna screw him up for the rest of the season, now he is seeing dead people every where and cant control his shine any more witch means he wont be much help going forward, IT basically took out one of the only people who could actually track him down and fight back on a supernatural level witch shows how smart IT realy is when it comes to eliminating threats. The whole sequence with Halloranns grandfather counting down before opening the box was tense, you could feel how desperate Dick was trying to keep that thing shut but IT just overpowered him mentally witch is scary because Dicks suppose to be one of the strongest shiners out there, if IT can break him then nobody else stands a chance against that kind of mental attack. Leroy almost shooting his own son Will because he thought it was IT pretending to be him was such a gut punch moment, like you could see the horror on his face when he realized it was actually Will and not a trick, good thing Paulie jumped in front of the bullet and saved the kid but now Paulies dead and Leroys gotta live with that for the rest of his life knowing he almost killed his own son by mistake because of IT messing with his head.

The ending with the kids running through the sewers while Pennywise chases them was pure chaos in the best way possible, Lily getting separated from the group and finding the dagger was clutch timing because Pennywise was about to eat her right there, that shot of his jaw freezing open while the dagger glows was sick and shows how powerfully those meteor shards actually are against IT, basically the only weapon that can stop him from doing what ever he wants. I am giving this episode an 8 out of 10, it is one of the better ones but I am still waiting for the show to really blow my mind completely, Pennywise is finally in the game now so things should get way more intense from here on out and the body count is probably gonna go way up too now that he is fully active and hunting every one. The way the episode balanced all the different groups, the kids in the sewers, the military getting slaughtered, Charlotte dealing with Hank and the tribe stuff, it all flowed together pretty wel without feeling to too much or confusing witch is hard to do when you got so many moving pieces happening at once, the pacing felt right and nothing dragged on to long or felt rushed, they gave each moment enough time to breath and build tension before moving on to the next thing. I was very curious to see how they were gona wrap up this season with three episodes left, like are they gona actually capture IT or is Shaw going to realize he is in way over his head and just leave Derry alone, my guess is things are gona go completely side ways and a lot more people are gona die before this cycle ends, cant wait to see what happens next and how the kids are going to deal with Pennywise now that they know he is real and hunting them specifically. btw I had some of this IT Welcome To Derry posts done for a few weeks before going AFK so decided to post them anyways.
