Yesterday was "Workers Day" in Panama, similar to "Labor Day" in the US I would say, it was a holiday and I'm still recovering from my elbow injury so I decided to stay home, rest, watch some movies and take some pills to get better. Its working since now I'm able to do more with my arm, getting some strength back and writing doesn't bother me anymore.

I decided to check what was on my bucket list although more recent movies I have watch, decided to watch Locked (2025) and Drop (2025), both horror movies that are decent but I can't denied I was tempted to fast forward a few times. If you watch Locked poster you will know immediately what it is about, not an easy movie to make since its one of those tight space movies with very few characters, the movie focus on Eddie Barrish fucked up live as a father, thief and he even looked like recovering from drug addiction although I'm not so sure if they mention it during the movie. Eddie's Van alternator broke and he needed less than $500 to repair it but had no cash at the moment so he starts trying to look for cars left open and see what he can steal until he got into the wrong car.

Rottentomatoes Rating

Source The movie stars Bill Skarsgard and Anthony Hopkins, having this two actors on the lineup already gives the movie character since they both mean business when it comes to horror movies. The movie is an intense psychological drama where on one hand we have Eddie, a selfish man who in the surface is trying to be a good father but he lacks proof of it as he constantly fucks up been with his daughter and on the other hand we have William, who is a wealthy man who has zero faith in the law system since his car has been robbed three times already and all thief have been let go so he decided to take the law by his own hands.

I wasn't sure what to expect since Skarsgard movies are not my favorites and the last movie I saw from him, The Crow remake wasn't any good. For Anthony Hopkins all I have is love for because most if not 80% of his movies are good and consider he is the iconic "Hannibal", probably the perfect guy for this movie when it comes to be the role of the oppressor. The plot is very simple although not so predictable to what is going to happen in the short term, the ending I never saw coming, I though it would be more develop but I'm satisfied with.

Source Source After trying to contact anyone he knows for money and using some cash he stole from someone at the mechanics shop, Eddie gets a bottle of water, snacks and some scratchers, its one of those moments in life that you are against the corner without money or anyone to ask for it. He deiced to take the easy route and starts to walk around looking for cars left open so steal from, he looks like he has a good heart since there is one car he tried and a dog was inside barking and scared him, Eddie though he was not trying to be mean but was thirsty so he gave water to the dog and starts petting him. The movie has clear intentions to take out the worst possible from a total selfish and irresponsible human being, Locked reminds me a lot to the original SAW movie without the blood, testing how far a person would go to safe his life or others people life.

What kept me watching the movie was the constant cat and mouse between Eddie and William, most of the time William had the upper hand and even though Hopkins doesn't have much screen time you know its him, well at least that's how I felt, in my case I didn't watch any trailers or even look at the movie profile in IMDB so it was a cool surprise for me when Hopkins shows up for the first time, I even had doubts because on the first scene you could only see his eyes.

Source Source The movie has some pace issues and the script was not always at the same level of actors like Skarsgard and Hopkins who had constant arguments about life, what is fair, what is just, society, wealth and many other things that questions both sides, Eddie's decisions and William's too, considering that they both breaking the law so in the end none of them have an argument to be right about.

William owns a luxury SUV, brand Dolus, the car is bullet proof and almost impossible to get out of once you are inside. He had the car just sitting on a parking lot under a pole light, waiting for the next thief as the car is open, the car itself is a trap where once the thief gets in he would lock him down, Eddie makes the perfect candidate not because he is a thief but he also have some kind of anger and attitude issues where at first goes wild trying to get out, swearing, screaming, he even tries to shoot the window but gets himself shot in the leg as the bullet bounce back, I'm not sure if that's how it works in real life though. William patch him up after Eddie pass out after loosing a good amount of blood, I doubt anyone would recover like Eddie does without any kind of food or medicine but the movie goes one and its here where they fall into all kind of arguments, Eddie mostly trying to trick William to let him go but it's never that easy.

I really enjoy the movie as it has intense moments, specially towards the end of it but it also drags in the middle. Making confine space movies with very little characters in my experience are the hardest to pull off and most of the time they are no good, Locked (2025) is a great attempt but I still felt tempted to press the forward button a couple of times when the script became predictable and felt like they were just trying to kill time and stretch the story, reason why I dont feel like giving it more than a 6/10 but still feeling its worth watching only if you have nothing else to watch, I wouldn't pay to watch it at the cinema though. Hopkins does a great job specially towards the end and honestly I think this is the best movie I have seen from Skargard looking just like a regular guy, he has done some other horror movies but its always on this kind of special character but in Locked (2025) he looks like a regular guy and I think that's what caught my attention.
