Sinopsis

Las escenas entre los protagonistas fue tan natural que me gustó que ambos personajes mantuvieron su esencia y también cómo surgió su amistad y después su breve romance. > >

> > A mitad de la película yo deseaba que tuvieran besos apasionados, pero eso no pasó, tampoco hubo sexo si es lo que esperas 😁😆. Solo amistad y luego un amor sincero y tan puro que nadie cambió su destino para no complicar la vida del otro. > > Aunque me hubiese gustado que tuviera otro final, creo que terminó como debía, manteniendo la armonía de la historia. La película fue agradable porque tuvo sus momentos de humor que refrescan y siento que todo el argumento da pie para que las personas puedan sentir empatía frente a la discapacidad, respetando el sentir ajeno y sus decisiones. Respondiendo la pregunta que formulé en el título y como lo presenta la película el amor sí puede existir sin confundirse con la compasión. >

It’s a movie that portrays romantic love as an escape from reality, and it’s precisely because of that painful reality that I liked it and recommend it. It stars Emilia Clarke, the same actress who played Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones,” but this time she plays Lou Clark, a sweet and innocent young woman.

“Me Before You” falls into the romance, drama, and tragic romance genres, and it delivers on what you’d expect from them; it was released in 2016. It runs for 1 hour and 50 minutes, which fly by despite the story being calm and predictable.

Synopsis

A young woman is hired to care for a disabled man, which leads to a romantic bond that allows them to experience unique and joyful moments, learning from each other and changing their perspectives on life.

The story revolves around Lou Clark (Emilia Clarke) and Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), who lead very different lives because they come from different social classes, but manage to forge a beautiful friendship.

Lou is down-to-earth, cheerful, grateful, and a dreamer, but she has no grand aspirations: she’s content with the prospect of having a husband and children to care for in the future. She loves nature and literature. She works at a coffee shop and dresses eccentrically simply because it makes her happy—she doesn’t want to draw attention to herself. Lou has a boyfriend whom her family adores; they see him as a good match for her, but they have nothing in common. Her boyfriend is self-centered and thinks he’s the center of the universe; he thinks only of himself and of achieving success as an athlete; he’s even selfish toward Lou. She thought she loved him, but after meeting Will Traynor, she realized that their relationship was based on habit.

On the other hand, Will Traynor is a young man who had it all: health, money, a social circle, and even a romantic relationship that seemed perfect until he suffered a tragic accident that left him paraplegic; as his lifestyle changed, he became bitter—and understandably so—rude, and unbearable toward those around him; he didn’t last long with any caregiver and wanted only one thing: to end his own life and have his decision respected.

That’s when Lou arrives, hired by Will’s mother, and they begin to get to know each other. The scenes between the main characters were so natural that I liked how both characters stayed true to themselves, as well as the way their friendship—and later, their brief romance—developed.

Halfway through the movie, I was hoping they’d share some passionate kisses, but that didn’t happen; there wasn’t any sex either, if that’s what you’re expecting 😁😆. Just friendship, and then a sincere love so pure that neither of them changed their path so as not to complicate the other’s life.

Although I would have liked it to have a different ending, I think it ended as it should have, maintaining the harmony of the story. The movie was enjoyable because it had refreshing moments of humor, and I feel that the entire plot encourages people to empathize with disability while respecting others’ feelings and decisions. Answering the question I posed in the title—and just as the movie presents it—love can indeed exist without being confused with compassion.
