I scrolled through my blog and I cringed. It's been over four days since I last shared a post, and it has been over a month since I shared good set of pictures I actually planned for and shot. A lot has to change and fast. Well, today I decided to talk about this Netflix show I finally completed; MANIFEST. Manifest is a science fiction mystery show about a group of people who boarded a normal flight only to arrive and learn that their flight was anything but normal. During the flight, there was a storm, one that seem to change the course of their lives forever. Upon landing, the passengers were met with news of their death. Alas, their flight has been lost for five and a half years and everyone thought they were dead. Upon returning, it turns out that something has also changed inside them. They seem to be hearing voices and stuff. I know right, that's a captivating story. Now, let's get to the reasons why I feel this was a standout show:
Not all extended shows are boring
If anyone had told me that I was going to start and complete this series then I'd say they were freaking nuts. The first season had around sixteen episodes and the second had twelve episodes, all of which were at least forty-two minutes long. I'm not one to stay committed for that long to TV unless it's good, and this was more than good.
Good Acting is paramount
What I actually meant here is that you don't need top actors/actresses for a show to be successful. Almost all the actors and actresses in this show were new, well at least I didn't know, but they did tremendously well.
A show doesn't have to follow the status quo
At some point it felt like everything is just repetitive this days. Every show is either about a villain that is so impossible to beat or a protagonist that goes through shit and then eventually prevails. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, everything is predictable. This TV show shows us that it doesn't have to be. One just needs a bit of imagination.
There are levels to DRAMA
A lot of drama out there that gets you at the edge of your seat. Ones that make you yearn for more. Drama that makes your face teary... Okay maybe not, but you get my point. At first glance, this looks like a lot of science and action, but the show is beautifully dramatic. Riveting and completely absorbing.
RELATABILITY
Each year, movie producers and scriptwriters continue to capitalize on this. Its a simple logic; if people can understand and relate to a TVshow/Movie, they'd want to watch it. This is also connected to the drama too. How one decision can change your life, how relatives and family problems can be so difficult, etc. MANIFEST has everything.
