It was almost ten years ago when I started the fun journey of watching anime. (I can't believe almost a decade has passed already. Yikes!!) This second challenge for the anime blogging challenge by kuronokenshi is about the "First anime you watch in its entirety."

For this challenge, I went back to my list of anime series I have watched and I'm quite glad that I do list the shows I have seen or else I will have a difficult time remembering it today. The series I started watching were the mainstream ones with hundreds of episodes so I doubt they are fit for this challenge. The first anime that I have actually watched entirely only has 12 episodes. It's the series Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Puella Magi Madoka Magica or Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is about a girl named Kaname Madoka who made a contract with kyubey to become a magical girl and fight witches. Since I was new to anime back then, I kept searching on some shows to watch and the pleasing poster of Puella Magi Madoka Magica had caught my attention. All I have been back then were shounen anime, so seeing a magical girl show was like a breath of fresh air for me.
Well, I thought this show was only all about cute and happy stuff. The first few episodes was nice and all, it was the typical magical girl story you'd expect but then Mami's death left me in disbelief. "Ah, for sure the character will return on the next episode, it's a magical girl show, and of course, the story is supposed to be wholesome." That's what I thought. As the show went on, more of the characters die.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a sad and dark anime but a good show for its uniqueness. It starts wholesome and gets dark as the story goes on. Imagine how many people have been fooled by this show. Lol. The real shocker part of this show for me was Homura's revelation and kyubey being an antagonist of the show too. I felt bad for Homura the most but she is a true friend, no doubt about it.

I almost dropped this show because I didn't like how the story was going. The main characters were dying one after the other and my innocent anime heart can't take it back then. I was used to shounen anime where the characters can withstand and survive fatal injuries and I expected the same with these magical girls. I'm just glad that I gave it a chance and watched until the end. It's different and gives me realization that not all stories can a have a happy ending.
While writing this post, I learned that there will be an upcoming film but there are still no details about it:
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 4: Walpurgis no Kaiten
What I enjoyed watching from this show were the battle scenes and the girls' magical specialties. The magical girls have some cool weapons like Kyoko Sakura's spear and Mami's rifles which comes out under her skirt. 😂 Meanwhile, I find Homura's ability to time travel really cool but depressing. *(You know it if you've watched the show.)*

Have you watched this anime? What was the first anime you've watched completely?
