Something I Should've Realized Sooner While Watching Attack on Titan

Review by @straykat · 1947d · of Attack on Titan

Hello, weebs of Hive! It's time for another Straykat theory about the show she's currently watching. Attack on Titan or Shingeki no Kyojin. Please excuse me if the only anime I keep talking about right now is this series because I haven't watched other anime for a few years now. Well, this post is just going to be short and is only a random thing I realized lately so don't get too serious about it. :)

Attack on Titan's story is about a boy named Eren who vowed to kill the titans after her mother was eaten by one when the walls protecting their district from titans was breached by the collosal titan. Apart from that, one of his dreams is to go outside the walls together with his friend, Armin, to see the ocean and the other wonderful things about the world that they can only read on a book Armin has.

Speaking of Armin, I've rewatched the series weeks ago and realized that the voice of the narrator which can often be heard in every beginning of the episode of season one was no other than Armin. All along I thought the narrator was a random female voice but then upon rewatching the series, I was surprised by what I knew.

After the release of the 138th chapter last week, theories about time loop have surfaced. About how the recent chapter is connected with the first chapter and how the Lost Girls OVA was giving a hint to the main story. The theory about Mikasa being able to return to a certain point in the past to save Eren and Eren being able to convey a message to Grisha through Eren Kruger leads me to a realization that maybe the story we are seeing right now is already part of the past and is only being narrated by Armin.

The current Mikasa, Armin, and the rest of the survivors from the rumble is already living a peaceful life without Eren and the things we are witnessing are thoughts of Armin reminiscing the time when his dearest friend was still alive and how he fought for everyone's freedom. Or maybe he wrote the past in a book and is reading to the children so the next generation will know who and how the have world they a currently living on achieved peace. Just like how the Marleyans tells the story of King Fritz, Eldians, and titans to their people.

I didn't give any meaning to it at first as I thought maybe they just chose Armin's voice actor because it fits for the role. But maybe there's really a serious reason behind it after all that is very important for the story which we are about to find out on the last chapter. Remember at season three when Eren said that it wasn't him who could save them but Armin? Time loops are confusing for me, actually, but this isn't the first anime with time loop I've watched. There's Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica too. Though if time loop is really involved in the story of Attack on Titan then it's more interesting.
