Novelist Jane Austen thought when she wrote her famous novel Pride and Prejudice in 1813 that it would someday be re-photographed with the plot of the living dead in it. But modern Burr Stairs filmmaker, based on Seth Grahame-Smith's novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, directs his life into the era of England's tutelage after the outbreak of zombies.
The movie had a lot of bias against it before it hit theaters, and most of the talk about the movie was about Pride and Prejudice's balancing act with zombies. Will it be funny? Will it be full of horror and suspense shots? Will it be successful?
The film manages to achieve balance within it, although it takes some time to settle down and coherently narrates both sides of the story. The movie starts off wrongly with one unfortunate scene with zombies, but as the third scene arrives, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies manage to blend well with Austen and the zombie side. In this world, a zombie epidemic spreads and overwhelms London, and many aristocratic members of London are forced to go to properties that they have strengthened in order to be able to protect themselves and their families. In addition to teaching their sons and daughters the etiquette of fitness, they are also forced to teach them martial arts. Wealthy girls were sent to Japan to be trained by teachers, while the "smart" parents, as Mr. Bennet (played by Charles Dance) himself describes himself.), To send their children to China. This instantly adds a modern feel to the story.
While the Bennet sisters who are: Elizabeth (Lily James) , Jane (Bella Heathcoate) , Kitty (Suki Waterhouse) , Lydia (Ellie Bamber) and Mary (Millie Brady) remain anxious about who will marry as they were in Pride and Prejudice's original novel (and in Lizzy's case is whether they should marry for money rather than love), except that they are all well-trained killers with more abilities than many men and can defeat hordes of zombies.
Most of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies follows the plot of the original novel, adding to it the zombie plot and the dangers that come with them. Jane and Elizabeth not only want a rich husband because of the demands of the times, but also so that when their father dies they have the means to protect themselves from getting smarter zombies. The film adds more layers to Darcy's story with Mr. Wickham ( Jack Huston ) that would have succeeded more in a more modern story, but fails to exploit the version of the interesting conflicts between the upper and lower classes that the film is centered on.
The film benefits from modernizing its characters and concepts, Elizabeth Bennet was a modern woman by Pride and Prejudice , and James' role of a sword-wielding heroine who excels in martial arts as well as wit and wit is a great way to update that idea in the movie. Her love story with Mr. Darcy's follows the familiar pattern in the original movie, but here she is much more believable, especially in the comedic setting of Pride and Prejudice and Zombie , where what attracted him to her was her skills as a warrior as much as the reason she was sharp-witted.
The film is a success due to the great commitment of its characters to its hypothesis. Without their convincing and very sincere performance to the point of comic, the weakest plots in the film would have emerged clearly. This is because James , Riley , Heathcoate and Huston as well as Douglas Booth as Mr. Bingley and Matt Smith as Mr. Collins make their characters appear to be completely part of this bizarre universe of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies . Even with some weak moments in the script, the actors' performances manage to keep the film together.
Featured among the cast is Smith as Mr. Collins . Who plays the clergyman who is the cousin of the Bennet sisters and who is supposed to inherit their father's legacy, the role of Smith is very funny as it depends a lot on his funny personality. And his performance shines in all the scenes in which he appears.
During the first two scenes in the film, the zombie scenes and scenes inspired by the original Pride and Prejudice succeed separately, but they do not crystallize and blend together and feel like one movie until the last scene, when the struggle with zombies becomes central to Elizabeth and the story of Darcy . Pride and Prejudice brings humor to the movie, while the zombie side is action. In this world, people do not turn into complete zombies until they eat a human brain, and because of this, some sufferers remain an outer shell of their earlier civilized characters. Zombies are not scary at all but there are some surprising horror moments spread throughout the film. Although zombies are always present in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies , director SteersHe was smart enough to focus more on the Austen side of the novel rather than make it a zombie-centric action movie with a backdrop of the Guardianship of the Throne.
Positives Actor Matt Smith Zombie fights and effects Cast commitment to the premise of the film
Negatives Some decisions in editing Some weak writing
Conclusion Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a fun-packed movie although it sometimes has a hard time making Pride and Prejudice succeed with the addition of zombies. The film would not have succeeded if it had not been for the excellent cast who were committed to performing the idea of the film, and the film is such a good because of their wonderful performance. Sometimes some weakness in editing and writing makes the movie falter, but Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as a whole is full of laughter and delivers exactly what it promises.
