Who remembers this movie: Smart House? I recently got reminded of this story, especially how all the technical advancements, that are happening in the world now have been on high gear; we're not so far away from owning a smart house ourselves if you ask me.
Smart House aired June 1999 on the Disney Channel and is about a family of three - father, son and daughter - who recently had to deal with the loss of the matriarch of the family. Benjamin (Ben) - the son - felt responsible in helping around the household, so when the possibility came up to win a smart home, he entered his family and they won. After they moved in they got attended to by PAT (Personal Applied Technology) - some sort of AI-run technology - who saw to every need in keeping the home tidy and up and running.
This however didn't seem to be enough for Ben, who also happened to be tech savvy and who hadn't moved on from the death of his mother, so he altered the programming of PAT which made her turn into a 1950's style maternal figure. This modification of course brought a lot of difficulties (those discussed risks of whether or not our lives will one day be taken over by AI-technology Ultron style) - with it, as PAT wasn't coded for that specifically.
How the movie Smart House eventually ends I'll leave for you to find out, if you haven't seen it yet. What I do want to point out are the technical advancements I've seen and that I'm looking forward to. Yes, now we do have Amazon's Alexa and other smart devices that could regulate your household, like smart refrigerators, ovens, etc., but I'm still waiting on the technology that can give you a whole meal in an instant like a 3D-printer, but better 😅. What about you, what would make your life easier? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.
