I don't think I'm the only female though, but I haven't yet met another woman who's seen the movie and/or spoken about it. But I would definitely like to know other women's perspectives on this cult classic. It could be that there are women in my circle who've seen one, two or all three movies, but didn't come up in conversations.
I'm talking about The Godfather franchise, that's probably already been discussed here, heck it's already been discussed before I was even born 😂. The first movie debuted in 1972, being followed by the sequels in 1974 and 1990. This series follows the Corleone crime (mafia) family, with father Vito Corleone as the head of the family, who's being succeeded by the youngest son Michael.
In line of succession when looking at birth year, Michael wasn't born to take over the "family business", with two older brothers Sonny and Fredo. Michael was the smartest of the bunch and was planning to become a lawyer. Vito even planned for Michael to get into politics. But like most things in life, not everything will go as initially planned.
What makes Michael an interesting multi dimensional character is his dislike of the "family business" and his efforts in trying to go legitimate and yet being thwarted at every turn and having to chose between loyalty for his family and his own "believe system". And I'm in no way saying that Michael is good or bad, because despite his beliefs he made decisions of his own free will. These decisions ultimately had consequences that came at great costs.
All in all, Francis Ford Coppola (the director), Al Pacino (as Michael), Marlon Brando (as Vito) and all the other cast members did a great job in making the characters multi dimensional. You know that what they're doing is illegal and yet you also see the other side of how tightknit of a family they are and how deep loyalty goes. It's a family like any other - minus the criminal activities - filled with love, loyally and the occasional jealousy and spurning.
