"Isn't It Romantic?" : a Movie I Can Totally Relate to... (my movie review/reaction)

Review by @tegoshei · 2022d · of Isn't It Romantic

Last night, I binge-watched Haikyuu! Season 4 part two and ended past midnight. I still had the adrenaline flowing in me, so I decided to randomly choose a movie on Netflix and watch it. I was looking for something light and short, so I could peacefully afterwards. I wanted to watch something gory or psychological horror, but I thought I wouldn't be able to sleep because those types of films excite me... so, romance it is!
I then stumbled upon a thumbnail with "Fat Amy" on it. It's Rebel Wilson also known as Fat Amy of Pitch Perfect... and I was like *"This must be interesting"* and so I checked it out. :)

> Here's a screenshot after watching the movie... It was 3:50AM then. *lol* NOTE: Pictures I'll be using are screenshots from Netflix.. :)

The description got me interested, so I gave the movie a go. Now, before I talk about the movie itself, let me show you a trailer of the said movie.

As you can see in the trailer, Natalie, the main character, used to love and enjoy watching Romantic comedies when she was young. However, her mom opened her eyes to the harsh reality that these stories don't happen in real life and that ordinary people like her won't ever have the chance to experience the main characters in such movies does.

Somehow, it's really relatable because I feel the same. These types of love stories don't exist in real life, or maybe at least to ordinary people like me. They're too good to be true. It might actually be possible for the pretty girls from wealthy families and the like. It's good to imagine such situations but I don't see them happening to me in real life either. haha
Fast forward 25 years, Natalie lived her life realistically but with a huge hatred towards romantic comedies. She doesn't believe in the existence of love itself. She lives her life normally working as an architect who works so hard but her job always goes unnoticed. People either ignore her or treat her inferior. Though there are some people who adore her like Josh who she considers her best friend and another girl, her assistant who she's close to... but is really crazy about RomCom films.

One day after work, she was on the subway when a guy started flirting with her. She was adamant in believing that guy because as you know, she thinks nobody would like her in a romantic way. And guess what? She thought right? The guy in the subway was eyeing her purse in the first place, but she resisted and won. Unfortunately though, she bumped her head real hard ending up unconscious and woke up in a "beauty-filtered" New York. haha
She decided to go on with her life despite the changes and tried to think hard on various possibilities. It took her awhile to finally realize what's going on.

The moment she realized that she was trapped in this RomCom world, people around her started dancing and singing. haha That was so entertaining. It seems I was watching High School Musical. lol Well, you could see part of it in the trailer, so yeah. :D
She was still not much into the idea of living in such a world. She couldn't get used to it, and she thought that the only thing that could bring her back to reality or to the real world was to fall in love. So, she decided to go with the flow of this RomCom world.

Is this "The Notebook" reference? hahaha... Did this scene brought her back to the real world? Did she really fall in love with the right person? And if falling in love brings her back to reality, what happens next? Well, I'd love to keep you guys hanging and find out for yourself.
The movie was actually really entertaining, fun and relatable. It's how people view love realistically. But the very thing that I love about the movie was the concept of LOVING ONESELF. I truly believe this... for people to be capable of loving others, we should always start from ourselves. :)
It's not that I have given up on falling in love or on love itself... I just chose myself as a priority. Slowly, I'd get there, too. ^^ Well, I can be oblivious at times... but I always try to be honest... especially to myself. It's not selfish to love yourself and I want everyone to know that. This movie is a great reminder that nobody in this world can complete you, because you're already complete to begin with. Love yourself!! <3
I'll end my review here. Thanks a lot for reading and if you ever give this movie a shot, please tell me what you think. (^_^)/
