"The Midnight Club" -- an emotional horror series

Review by @tegoshei · 1358d · of The Midnight Club

It's been a while since I watched this series, but I just got the chance to make a post about it. It's another series by Mike Flanagan together with Leah Fong called ***"The Midnight Club"***.
I was so excited to see this on Netflix and I've read that Mike Flanagan would be making an adaptation of Edgar Alan Poe's short story *"The Fall of the House of Usher"*. I'm really looking forward to watching it, too! Anyway, let's talk about the series "The Midnight Club" first.

What is the series about?

The series is about a group of teens who are terminally ill. They are staying in a hospice while waiting for their end.
The said hospice had a lot of history and secrets that may or may not affect the lives of the group of ill teenagers living together there.

The teenagers living in that hospice in the past started a so-called "Midnight Club" where they'd gather in the library at midnight and tell each other scary stories. This club has continued on for years.
They pledged among themselves that whoever dies first will do their utmost best to be in contact with those who are still alive from beyond the grave.
To those who are curious, feel free to check the official Netflix trailer below.

What do I think about it?

It was another interesting series. There were a lot of jump scares and I love it! It was an enjoyable horror series. It wasn't only scary but the stories were really good. The main stories and the inception of stories told by the club members were as interesting.
It tackles various things like life, death, discrimination, love, family and friendship. Each character was highlighted and all their back stories were emotionally engaging.

I was surprised one day when I read an article about this series from my work material. It was about getting a world record of the most jump scares in a single episode. It has a total of 21 scripted jump scares in the first episode alone. I didn't count and I'm not easily surprised when watching horror films, but I do remember my heart racing. It's the same when I watched "The Haunting of Hill House". hahahaha

If you're into very emotional yet with a scary twist and a lot of jump scares, then this series is for you. It could make you cry, laugh, shout? and give you a variety of emotions. It was a great watch... at least for me. I'd love to watch it again. <3 Hopefully with my cousins because aside from the interesting story, my other favorite thing about watching horror films are the expressions from the people watching. ;)

And if you happen to give it a shot, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! <3

I really enjoyed this tv show. Not because of the terror it has but because it is a good series. I expected more from Flanagan, the director, but it ws Ok for me.

I had very high expectations about this series mainly because it was a production from Mike Flanagan who is probably the best horror director of recent years. But I was extremely disappointed because this series didn't even have proper horror, it was just full of boring and non-scary tales that made me feel nothing. The series was completely different than previous Flanagan's series and sadly it was for the worse.

What Flanagan did with The Haunting of Hill House was a total pure horror and drama masterpiece, but since then he has been decreasing the quality of his works. Hopefully his next one will be much better.

How interesting that information you give about the record of the movie, I would like to see it to see that many scares, hahaha although I am one of those who do not prefer to watch horror movies, hahaha I imagine you watching your movie partners to see how they are scared, thank you very much for this post, happy day.
