Two days ago, I read a review by @miguelalfonso of the very popular Puss In Boots animated movie of 2011. That movie was definitely an awesome spinoff of the legendary Shrek franchise. Almost every Shrek fan has watched Puss In Boots and said that it was a pretty solid movie - a top notch story of the already beloved Shrek character. I loved that movie so you can imagine how excited I was to find out that there was a sequel.
Yes, a second movie of Shrek's Puss in Boots has been made after a whole decade. It's been a long while and I have forgotten most things about the first movie. Nevertheless, I immediately hopped on the idea of seeing this sequel as soon as possible. Here is my review of it. I hope you like it ;)

Dreamworks has delivered a lot of memorable movies to our screens ever since Antz. Some were good, some were not so good but one franchise I have always loved is the Shrek franchise which brought to us many familiar and ridiculous characters that are still beloved today. Puss In Boots is one of those characters that was really memorable to us because of his wit and charm. Right from Shrek, he has always been one of my favorites just because I thought he was awesome as a kid. Antonio Banderas' voice fits right into the character's personality and I cannot imagine anyone else being the voice actor. This is probably one of the reasons I did not watch the Puss In Boots animated series as he was voiced by another actor.
Normally, we know Puss In Boots to be an arrogant little kitty that knows how to pack a punch but for the majority of this movie, he is different. Instead of the hero that loves "livin la vida loca", he is so damaged and beaten down to a very low point. As he is down to just one life, Puss is no longer the reckless feline hero we all know and love. For the first time ever, the legendary hero is scared of death.

Studios are really upping their game with the quality of their animations. For one, I like the direction that Dreamworks is headed with theirs. I watched Bad Guys a few weeks ago and I liked how different the animation looked. The recent Puss In Boots movie also has some improved animation elements in it that make it stand out.

It was like the animation changed in some of the fight scenes with the characters looking more like they were drawn. There were some stress lines in some of the fight scenes and several flashes that made them just look better. The fight scenes almost looked like they were made for an anime or an episode of Love, Death and Robots. I really like how intense they felt.
Speaking of intense, I love the fact that dreamworks tries to push the limits of their movies providing some intense elements while maintaining a family-friendly theme. The action scenes actually made my jaw drop as I wondered if they would have been ok to watch back when I was a kid. I think I am too used to the soft type of animations that Disney dishes out which is why I was shocked to see actually bleeding in this movie. There were also death scenes that freaked me out in a good way. Also, there was a scene where a character was cussing a lot and so the words had to be censored. That's some dangerous waters for dreamworks and I love the excitement that comes with it.
