Hello there awesome ladies and gents and welcome to another of my blog posts. It's been a while since I wrote about a series. It's not that I don't watch series but many I have seen recently aren't so captivating for me to talk about. Also, it's a lot easier for me to talk about movies than shows.
Recently though, I have been able to finish the most recent season of one of my all time favorite series, The Boys. I've already talked about how much I like this show in a different post and apparently I'm not the only one to think that it's an amazing show. Over the past eight weeks, episodes of the third season were released on Amazon Prime with the last episode released on Friday. Throughout this eight week period, the hype surrounding the show was massive with related hashtags and topics trending on social media sites. But is it worth the hype? Well, let's find out.

Even though Homelander tries to make people believe that he had no idea of Stormfront’s Nazi ideaologies, the media and people still think he should also be blamed for the damages she caused. With everything going on we can see Homelander getting more psycholoically unstable as time goes on and The Boys know that they have to do something about him. They hear of a special weapon that can kill the unkillable Homelander and so The Boys come together again, after a whole year, to take down Homelander and Vought for good.
The Boys set out on their wildest adventure yet but it all goes wrong. Butcher lets his obsession to kill Homelander get the best of him. He does a lot of questionable things and he pushes everyone away including his wife’s son, Ryan. For the first time ever, the Boys are totally divided and it’s only going to get worse from here. Will The Boys ever come back together? Will Butcher put aside his obsession with Supes? Most importantly, will The Boys kill Homelander before he goes totally psycho?

I have absolutely loved The Boys ever since I saw seasons 1 and 2 back in 2020. It was a long wait for season 3 but we finally got it. This season starts off lightly but things get really really crazy very fast. With the story just getting better every episode, it’s really difficult not to keep up with this show.
The story behind the boys is, on its own, a unique and somewhat realistic one. The show tries to show us what the world would really be like if superheroes really existed. The cliché of superheroes being portrayed as selfless beings who voluntarily try to save the world from a villain that wants to destroy or rule is totally discarded. Instead of all that stuff, we are presented with simple and complex human issues at a much greater level. Imagine a world with super powered people but instead of the whole city-destruction frantic-running scenario we have higher levels of corruption, murder, greed, genocide and basically any other vice you can think about. Doesn’t that make more sense than what we have come to know regarding superheroes? Well I think it does. With all that power who wouldn't want to get or do everything they've ever wanted even if it cost, you know, a couple thousand lives?
In The Boys, the “supes” are employed, paid and controlled by the people with actual power in the society – the superrich. The supes are paid a salary and provided with a lot of endorsements. They are basically more of celebrities than superheroes who go ahead with what their employers say. The main company in charge of the supes is called Vought and just like any other corporate organization, there is a chain of command with the CEO, Board of Directors and all that. This, however, changes in season 3 all thanks to the main antagonist, Homelander.

Homelander's character development is very interesting to me. Even though he is the strongest man alive he is not immune to trauma, need, manipulation and so on. I think it was very interesting that, since Homelander did not have any parents or family all his life, he had this constant need to be loved and admired. He could easily take out entire cities if he wanted to but he doesn't because deep down, he has a need to be validated. This plays a very important role in grounding this character but it won't be long until he loses total control.
The Homelander character is by far the best antagonist I have seen in any show or movie especially for the superhero genre. I have seen many overly serious villains with weird evil agenda but this guy is bad and funny in a very sick way. You would hate the guy but also like or pity him and not want him dead, yet. This character is played by Antony Starr and, honestly, I don't think anyone would have done a better job as Homelander. Starr is so believable that sometimes it's really difficult to believe that he isn't actually disturbed in reality. Honestly, Homelander is my favorite character in this show and it's thanks to the amazing job done by Antony Starr.

Of course, apart from Homelander all the other characters were really good. One that I really like is Hughie Campbell played by Jack Quaid who is an underrated character in my opinion. I really like his expressions of shock and satisfaction. I also like the chaos that revolves around the guy and how he manages it. Honestly, Jack Quaid will make a really sick villain in a production.
I also really like the Butcher character especially with the major character development done in season three. Butcher is played by Karl Urban and his character is really an iconic one in the series. His sinister expressions, great sense of sarcasm and excessive use of the word "cunt" makes Butcher a top 3 for many fans including myself. In season three though, Butcher becomes really annoying but the series quickly makes you get mixed feelings about him with some really good character development.
Speaking of character development, season three made us connect better with characters we thought we already knew well. We got to see some background on members of The Boys like Butcher, MM and Frenchie. We also got to know more about some really disliked characters like A-Train. Heck even the mysterious Black Noir got a little bit demystified.
The deep character development in this season took us into the minds of the characters and showed us how deeply traumatized and disturbed many of them are. We also got to see how some of these people cope with their trauma like MM having OCD, Black Noir with his sad but hilarious hallucinations and Frenchie with his drugs. It was very interesting to get to know how damaged these people really are. Imagine a supe with a lot of trauma behind him. That is just a recipe for a great disaster. The character development this season will have your feelings all over the place. Trust me.

The Boys is a show that clearly depicts its characters as parodies of very popular superheroes. These parodies are dark ones of the cool and awesome superhero characters we know from other productions. This season the show takes it up a notch by introducing Soldier Boy, a dark parody of Captain America. I mean, when they murder someone and you can see their brains you can almost feel it. It's just so real.
Accompanying the great graphics is really good fight scenes. I like it when the supes have a good ole hand-to-hand-to-laser combat. The hard punches and the impact they make are so intense. The sounds that follow each blow and crash are also very real. Supe fights are awesome and I like to watch them.
