Back To The Future (1985) Is One of My Favorite Films Ever. Nearly Forty Years Later, It’s Still as Fun, Smart, and Rewatchable as the First Time.

Review by @thefed · 209d · of Back to the Future

Today we’re taking a break. I’ll get back to covering world events and economic chaos tomorrow. Today is for fun, nostalgia, and one of the best films ever made. Back To The Future came out in 1985, and it still feels untouchable.

This movie is comfort food. No agenda. No preaching. Just a tight story, perfect pacing, and characters you instantly care about. From the opening clocks to the final lightning strike, it never wastes a minute.

Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly is flawless casting. He’s confident without being annoying, sarcastic without being cruel, and likable without trying. Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown is iconic in a way you can’t manufacture. Every line, every expression, every panic fueled idea just works.

The time travel rules are simple, clear, and consistent. That matters more than people realize. You understand the stakes immediately. Change the past, erase the future. No multiverse nonsense. No endless branching timelines. Just consequences.

The 1955 setting is a huge part of the magic. It’s idealized but still grounded. Small town America, diners, high school dances, and that perfect contrast between Marty’s world and his parents’ past. Watching George McFly grow a spine never gets old.

The soundtrack is another reason the film sticks. Huey Lewis and the News, Alan Silvestri’s score, and the way music is used to drive scenes forward instead of just filling space. “The Power of Love” is forever tied to this movie for a reason.

The DeLorean might be the greatest movie vehicle of all time. It looks futuristic and ridiculous at the same time. Flux capacitor, gull wing doors, stainless steel body. You don’t need to be a car person to love it.

What really makes Back To The Future special is how rewatchable it is. You can catch it halfway through, watch ten minutes, or sit for the entire thing and never feel bored. It works for kids, adults, and anyone in between.

It also understands tone. It’s funny without being dumb. Emotional without being heavy. Smart without being smug. That balance is incredibly hard to pull off, and almost no one nails it anymore.

Nearly forty years later, it still holds up. The effects, the story, the humor, the heart. It’s not just a great 80s movie. It’s a great movie, period.

Tomorrow it’s back to reality, markets, and world events. Today belongs to a DeLorean hitting 88 miles per hour and reminding us how fun movies used to be.

It's a great movie, period. I never get tired of watching it. Of the three, the first one is my favorite.

Classic movie. Even more of a classic truck, Toyota got a lot of mileage on that one. The Delorean wasn't bad either 😆

This is one of those to rewatch one day as I only saw it once or twice when I was a kid. However there are just so many movies I still have to catch up with that it gets pushed back. One day though, I will rewatch this classic for sure and I don't think it will ruin a good memory as it's one of those that stands the test of time.
