Last night in Soho/Ultima noche en Soho (Review/Reseña)

Ellie, a young peasant girl, manages to get a scholarship to study fashion design in London, going to the big city with the ghost of her mother, there, she puts aside the visions of her dead mother and now has the memories of a girl who lived in her apartment. Visions of the past? Memories of ghosts? What is really happening?

I've been saving this movie for a while, something told me it was bad for some reason, not because I've seen anything about it or read a bad review, I was just leaving it for later. Now, without really knowing what it's about, without expecting anything, I watched this almost two-hour movie that entertained me every second of it.

I came to suspect at one point where the plot was going but it took a turn that left me disoriented, the synopsis spoke of time travel but I really don't see it that way, there is no point in time travel as shown by the story, it can be assumed more like a disorder of the main character since his mother is known to commit suicide due to mental problems. What made me spin with the thought that it was really the visions of the protagonist.

The story has no declines at the time of telling it, it does not have moments of rest where the viewer is entertained with something other than the main story, the only drawback would be the power, problem or ability that the protagonist has, if it is It's about delusions, the possibility of seeing the dead or really traveling through time with just her soul. And while that may be it weak point, it leaves the viewer thinking as the story unfolds, even it weak point being a strong point.

I got to see how they did the dance scene and I really loved it, seeing the scene as such I was impressed that the fact that the actresses change is not noticeable at all, it made me think more about how the scenes are done in the cinema, something that I have also been thinking about thanks to the documentary of The movies that made us. In terms of colors, shadows, lights and so on, it's incredible, I think the use of lights is vital to the story because of where they are, it almost seems more like a story about lights than one about fashion.

The use of CGI is subtle but noticeable at the same time, it's not heavy and doesn't let it dominate the movie, only in the final scenes where the use of CGI is obvious to achieve the suspenseful feeling. I really feel that it is a good film, I came to read an article that commented that it was not so good and gave it a bad rating, it may be a matter of taste or points of view, as I have ever heard in a documentary "from the critics they never like anything" so as a viewer I enjoy this movie from start to finish, I really recommend it.

Llevo un tiempo guardando esta película, algo me decía que era mala por alguna razón, no porque haya visto algo sobre la misma o hubiese leído alguna mala reseña, simplemente la dejaba para luego. Ahora, sin saber muy bien de que trata, sin esperar nada, vi esta película de casi dos horas que me entretuvo cada segundo de ella.

Llegue a sospechar en un momento a donde iba la trama pero dio un giro que me dejo desorientado, la sinopsis hablaba de viajes en el tiempo pero realmente no lo veo de esa manera, no tiene sentido lo de viajar en el tiempo según nos muestra la historia, se puede suponer más como un trastorno del personaje principal dado de que se sabe que su madre se suicida por problemas mentales. Lo que me hizo dar vueltas con el pensamiento sobre que realmente se trataba las visiones de la protagonista.

La historia, no tiene declives al momento de contarla, no tiene momentos de descanso donde deje que el espectador se entretenga con otra cosa que no sea la historia principal, el único inconveniente seria el poder, problema o habilidad que tiene la protagonista, si se trata de delirios, la posibilidad de ver a los muertos o realmente de viajar en el tiempo nada más con su alma. Y aunque ese puede ser su punto flojo, deja al espectador pensando mientras se desarrolla la historia, siendo un punto fuerte incluso su punto débil.

Llegue a ver como hicieron la escena del baile y realmente me encanto, al ver la escena como tal quede impresionado de que no se nota para nada el hecho de que se cambian las actrices, me hizo pensar más sobre como se hacen las escenas en el cine, algo que vengo pensando también gracias al documental de The movies that made us. En cuestión de colores, sombras, luces y demás, es increíble, creo que el uso de luces es vital para la historia por el lugar donde se encuentran, casi parece más una historia de luces más que de una de modas.

El uso del CGI es sutil pero notorio al mismo tiempo, no es pesado y no deja que acapare la atención en la película, solo en las escenas finales donde es obvio el uso del CGI para lograr el sentimiento de suspenso. Realmente siento que es una buena película, llegue a leer un articulo que comentaba que no era tan buena y le daba una mala calificación, podrá ser cuestión de gustos o puntos de vistas, como llegue a escuchar en un documental alguna vez "a los críticos nunca le gusta nada" así que como espectador, disfrute esta película de principio a fin, realmente la recomiendo.
