If you have kids, they like have seen or want to see Abominable. Or you just have a certain grown adult friend who really loves Yetis.

Adominable is about a magic Yeti that is captured to harness his power. In many ways it reminds me of the movie Up (which is fantastic by the way).

Yi (voiced by Chloe Bennet) discovers and friends the Yeti but they are quickly forced on the run by the captors. The adventure takes you around the world and through the breathtaking scenery and color.

There is a slight nod to the ultra weird Pixar short film Bao that I found amusing. If you haven't seen this short, you really have to watch it so you know how many drugs they take in Hollywood. It is really outrageously weird.

The art work and style in Abominable is really amazing and if it was only for that it would be worth watching. There are a lot of cliches in the movie, like most family movies it is predictable and typical. That being said, I still recommend the experience, especially if you have a young one to enjoy it with.

The movie promotes a lot of healthy values like adventure, teamwork, and family. The scenery is the best feature of the movie, as they travel around the world your senses will be serenaded with color and beauty.

So I looked up that BAO movie. It's actually a good metaphor for mothers who don't want their children to grow up. They try to make them need them, or to hinder them, so that they are dependent of the mother and won't leave home. The mother sees her child as always a baby, even when he's bringing home a chick or going out with friends. He eating him is quite symbolic. I'm not certain of ALL the occult symbolism in that, but it definitely represents the mother who wants to hold on to and control her child because she does not want the child to abandon her. The child feels choked, constricted, trapped, controlled. The mother must learn to let go. She eats him when he'S about to go with another woman. It's symbolic. Not in a sexual way, but that he's replacing his mother with a lover. The mother used to be the only woman in hid life, the woman he spent all his time with, and now she is being discarded and replaced. She must learn to let go. She does not want him to grow up.

I'm sure if I ask my husband he can tell me a bunch more symbols about that. I don't think they were on any drugs when they did that short.

Ive actually been looking at renting this one to watch with my wife and daughter. We really liked Up, so if this is along those lines, I am sure we would like this as well. Hopefully the Redbox near my house gets fixed so I can pick it up soon.
