Daily Dose Of sunshine is like a fresh breeze that comes to me in the middle of a scorching season. After the last medical drama I watched called Soul Mechanic in 2020. Daily Dose Of Sunshine does not try to get out of the old concept of psychiatry, however, for me, every mental health-theme show is always fun and educational even though there are some cases that are similar from one title to another.

ORIENTATION

____

Starring the beautiful Park Bo-Young, Yeon Woo-Jin, and Jang Dong-Yoon, Daily Dose Of Sunshine tells the story of the lives of the medical staff and patients at the Neuropsychiatric Clinic of a famous university hospital in Korea. Jung Da-Eun (Park Bo-Young) is a third-year nurse who was transferred to the psychiatric ward from the internal medicine ward due to her colleagues' lack of skill. Initially, Da-Eun thought that her transfer to psychiatry was purely a sincere suggestion from the head nurse of the internal medicine ward, only to find out later that her previous colleagues made a complaint to the head nurse for Da-Eun to be transferred.

For Da-Eun, although this closed unit is very new and unfamiliar, she is optimistic that she can adapt quickly. Her senior, Doctor Hwang, who is one of the psychiatrists at the poly, was Jung Da-Eun's senior and tutor during high school. Viewers will be treated to a different mental health case each episode, as well as conflicts that are not too sharp but memorable enough to be resolved with a sigh of relief from the audience.

Not only centered on patients and medical experts, Daily Dose Of Sunshine also touches the audience's emotions with the patient's family conflict. What I like about this drama is that everything is wrapped up neatly and not too wordy.

The drama is also based on the Kakao webtun Morning Comes To Pshychiatric wards by writer Lee Ra-Ha. With a total of 12 episodes, Daily Dose Of Sunshine can be enjoyed by viewers on Netflix. This drama has a content rate of 15+

CHARACTERISTICS

_____
  • Jung Da-Eun (Park Bo Young)

As I mentioned above, Da-Eun is a third-year nurse. She has a character who is very sensitive to the opinions of others about her. This, later on, will be very influential in the mental shock that she then experiences in the coming episodes. Da-Eun is also prone to forming transference in the patient's psyche, this is a feeling of liking or dependence that the patient experiences towards the medical professional who helps him. However, Da-eun is a nurse who truly cares for her patients.

  • Dong Go-Geun (Yeon Woo-Jin)

Another central character in the drama is Dong Go-geun played by Yeon Woo-Jin. Yeon Woo-Jin in some dramas always gets the role of a doctor. In Daily Dose Of Sunshine, Yeon Woo-Jin plays a colorectal surgeon who is very extroverted, friendly, honest, and fun. Go-geun, who has a relaxed and more realistic nature, will balance Jung Da-Eun, who sometimes feels dilemma over her life choices.

  • Song Yoo-Chan (Jang Dong-Yoon)

It's incomplete when Korean dramas have romantic story inserts without the second lead that we love. LOL.By the way, for those of you who love romantic dramas, are you also often tethered or have a big crush on the second lead? I do. Haha Well, okay, so in Daily Dose Of sunshine, Jang Dong-Yoon will play the second lead named Song Yoo-Chan. Yoo-Chan and Da-Eun have been friends since childhood. Yoo-Chan has an inferior character since his failure to enter medical school. He then applied for a job at a large company. However, Yoo-Chan developed a panic disorder, which made him resign. Yoo-Chan has a character that is agile and meticulous in performing his duties. Not to mention, he is a people pleaser.

INTERPRETATION

____

Daily Dose Of Sunshine certainly wants to present to us the value of living life with a good mentality. In the case of Ri-Na, for example. A patient with bipolar, we can get a valuable conclusion that mental disorders experienced by someone can actually be caused by the people closest to us, such as family. In an ideal perspective, family members are usually our main support system in living life, but it is not uncommon for cases like patient Na-Ri, to have to live life as a bipolar person because of her mother's overprotective attitude. Or in another case, Daily Dose Of Sunshine also presents a case of hallucinations and extraordinary delusions experienced by Seo-Wan. Due to the fierce competition in qualifying to become a civil servant, Seo-Wan ends up trapped in hallucinations into a game world. The game became the best escape for Seo-Wan when she did not pass the selection and felt like giving up on the academy she attended. Besides Ri-Na and Seo-Wan, there are many other cases.

SUMMARY

____

Although this 12-episode drama carries the mental health genre, the author also inserts a lot of moral messages for the audience. The author also covers the issue of struggling to be a working mother, job competition that is getting more and more terrible, the effects of losing a relative to suicide, as well as bullying at school.

Rated 8.3/10 by IMDb Daily Dose of Sunshine [IMDb](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26258202/)

So, if you really miss Korean dramas with mental health themes, Daily Dose Of Sunshine should definitely be on your watch list. For me this will be the best drama of the year!

"All illness comes from loss. Loss of prcious things, loss of self, or loss of happy moments." -Jung Da Eun
