When we become passengers on an airplane, do we ever think or wonder how the airport staff and flight crew divide their duties? What are their activities so that all flights and mobility at the airport become very structured, organized and very neat?
At first, I watched Where Stars Land because I was very curious about the cemistry between (Han Yeo-Reum) Chae Soo-Bin and (Lee Soo-Yeon) Lee Je-Hoon. When I saw footage of this drama on YouTube, I thought it was a science fiction drama. Apparently, this drama is indeed a romantic genre.
Apparently, apart from having a romantic genre, Where Stars Land has a unique story because it directly involves the largest international airport in South Korea, Incheon Airport, also showing us the performance of airport staff, from security staff, passenger service staff. , immigration staff, airport operational staff, and also ramp staff.
Han Yeo-Reum is a staff member who has been at Incheon Airport for a year and has been transferred to the passenger service department. Despite having worked for a year, Han Yeo-Reum is still overwhelmed by the many and confusing spaces at the airport. He often gets lost and makes mistakes.
Seeing the poor performance of his new employee, finally the team manager Yang Seo-Goon (Kim Ji-Soo) orders Lee Seo-Yoon to become a mentor for Han Yeo-Reum.
Lee Seo-Yoon who is known to be cold, does not get along with fellow coworkers and tends to be introverted, making Han Yeo-Reum very curious about her mentor figure. Not to mention, rumors are circulating that Seo-Yoon is very strong and several times have been caught on airport CCTV cameras which show an oddity about Lee Seo-Yoon's strength who looks like a Superhero.
Lee Seo-Yoon because of a fatal accident that occurred when he was still in high school, he lost the function of the nerves of motion in his right leg and right hand. Thanks to the help of a professor Jang-Hyun Sung, finally, Seo-Yoon can walk again and move his right hand like a normal human with the help of artificial arms and legs full of microchips that are harmful to his body.
The drama, which aired in 2018 on the South Korean television channel SBS, has a total of 32 episodes. However, unlike other dramas which each episode has a duration of 60 minutes, *Where Stars Land only has a duration of 30 minutes per episode. .
What Makes This Drama Unique?
While melodrama dramas usually have a fairly large portion of romantic scenes, Where Stars Land also highlights other aspects. There are many things we can learn while watching the drama Where Stars Land, including:
We can know that each division at Airport cannot use a tensabarrier arbitrarily without the permission of the passenger service division or the division that has a tensabarrier.
All forms of advertising media such as banners or standing posters at every store in the airport are strictly prohibited unless they have official permission.
Entering the baggage screening door into the cabin, passengers are prohibited from bringing liquids of more than 100 ml because they are considered to be dangerous for the flight. Why can't liquids, such as mineral water, be brought into the cabin? because, with 100ml of liquid, one could even make a liquid bomb.
Luggage with luxury goods that have a value that exceeds the provisions that have been made, will be subject to customs duties. Suitcases with customs fines are usually given their own label after the screening process.
It is forbidden to bring food during the inspection period.
Passengers with illegal passports will be detained and interrogated at the immigration office, then the follow-up of this process is, the passengers will be sent back to their country of origin. In this drama, there is a very touching scene about a husband-wife couple who have to cross the immigration line just because the wife has just given birth, and the father can't enter South Korea because his passport is illegal, and he has also committed fraud related to illegal passports.
Suspicious items are not allowed to be touched by the staff, but must be with the AVSEC or aviation Security team.
We can also know that the airport will prioritize the plane with an emergency status, it can happen because of the condition of the plane or because of a passenger or crew member who requires medical treatment. Here the ramp staff will look for gates that are still available, or move aircraft that are parked at the nearest gate with ambulance access.
Apart from knowing a lot about operational technicalities at the airport, there are many irregularities in the story while watching the drama Where Stars Land
Some Inconsistency in Drama
From the start, the main female character Han Yeo-Reom is told as the daughter of her divorced parents. Even though the audience is told who his father is and how his mother is, however, until this drama is finished, the father figure of Yeo-Reum is not mentioned as to how the story goes, even though his condition is still alive.
The male lead, Lee Seo-Yeon, also has a complicated relationship with his family. Her single-parent mother remarried and left Seo-Yeon going to America because of her disability. Seo-Yeon lives with professor Jang who from the beginning no one knew how this professor came from, and why he was so passionate about taking care of Seo-Yoon and making robotic hands and feet full of microchips.
The supporting female character named Yang Seo-Goon, is an important character for Seo-Yoon, because she is the only woman who knows the full story of Seo-Yoon including her microchip hands and feet. However, the reason Seo-Goon takes care of Seo-Yoon is because she remembers her brother who has a disability and wants to help Seo-Yoon to live a normal life, of course humane, it's just that we don't tell about the condition of Yang Seo-Goon's brother here.
Many empty and incomplete stories are what make this drama a minus. Since this is not a mystery genre drama and there are no plans in the making for season two, I can only give this drama 2.5/5 stars.
However, for the romantic story, I give it a 4/5 star rating, because the chemistry of the players is very good. And I really like the character of Lee Seo-Yoon (Lee Je-Hoon) who seems consistent, firm, and doesn't rush.
