The Judge is an American legal drama film starring Robert Downey Jr. (as Hank Palmer) and Robert Duvall (as Judge Joseph Palmer). Hank is a very successful attorney, who is forced to return to his hometown by the sudden death of his mother. He is not on good terms with his family, especially with his father Judge Palmer.

El Juez es un filme americano de drama legal, protagonizado por Robert Downey Jr. (como Hank Palmer) y Robert Duvall (como el juez Joseph Palmer). Hank es un abogado defensor muy exitoso, que se ve obligado a regresar a su ciudad natal por la muerte repentina de su madre. Él no esta en buenos términos con su familia, en especial con su padre el juez Palmer.

The truth is that Hank doesn't want to return to his hometown but it isn't so hard for him to leave, since he's about to get divorce with his wife Lisa, who recently was unfaithful justifying herself with the classic "I was lonely." Hank works too much and although he loves his daughter, he doesn't share much with her, but still you can see the special relationship they have.

La verdad es que Hank no quiere volver a sus orígenes pero no le cuesta tanto partir, ya que esta en planes de divorcio con su esposa Lisa, quien recientemente le fue infiel justificándose con el clásico "me sentía sola". Hank trabaja demasiado y aunque ama a su hija no comparte demasiado con ella, pero igual se puede ver la relación especial que hay entre ellos.

In this film you will see a truly dysfunctional family, everything here is too strong to handle, and you can see how each character in this story have their internal struggle, their own interests and also somehow have a common goal, because no matter how bad or good your family relationship is, you are tied to them and when there are problems or something very serious comes up, it's like something forces you to go where you swore not to return.

En esta película podrás ver una familia realmente disfuncional, todo acá es demasiado fuerte, y puedes ver como cada uno de los personajes de esta historia tiene su lucha interna, sus propios intereses y también de alguna forma tienen objetivos en común, porque sin importar que tan mala o buena sea tu relación familiar, estás atado a ellos y cuando hay problemas o surge algo muy grave, es como si algo te obligara a ir donde juraste no volver.

Robert Downey Jr.'s performance was excellent as always (in my opinion,) although I must admit this is for sure the best performance he has done, in his roles he always shows himself very self-confidence and for some reason he always looks kinda "expensive," still, when the scenes are serious or very sentimental his performance is stellar, especially when he shows helplessness or when he cries, he does incredibly well and I'm sure it reaches more than one.

La actuación de Robert Downey Jr. fue excelente como siempre (en mi opinión), aunque debo admitir que esta es con toda seguridad la mejor actuación que ha hecho, en sus roles siempre muestra ese exceso de seguridad y por alguna razón siempre se ve muy "costoso", aún así, cuando las escenas son serias o muy sentimentales su actuación es estelar, especialmente cuando muestra impotencia o cuando llora, lo hace increíblemente bien y estoy seguro de que llega a más de uno.

Judge Palmer is a very righteous and inflexible man, from his point of view severe punishments have to be given to those who break the law, hoping it will be enough to teach them a lesson and hopefully they'll think twice before doing something stupid again. He is a recognized person in the small town where he lives, almost considered a public figure and treats them all well except for his middle son Hank. He is particularly harsher and colder to him.

El juez Palmer es un hombre muy recto e inflexible, desde su punto de vista hay que dar castigos severos a los que rompen la ley, esperando que sea lo suficiente para aprender la lección y se lo piensen dos veces antes de volver a hacer una estupidez. Es una persona reconocida en el pequeño pueblo donde vive, casi considerado una figura pública y los trata a todos bien a excepción de su hijo del medio Hank, es particularmente más severo y frío con él.

Throughout the film you will notice that regardless of how Judge Palmer's relationship with his son is, Hank always expects something from his father, some word of recognition or some kind affection and although he is not surprised by his mistreatment, it does affect him deeply, his two brothers notice it and never intervene, they just watch. His older brother Glen is bitter towards him for having distanced himself from the family and in a way for having destroyed his future, his younger brother is autistic and is kind to him, well... He's kind to everyone.

A lo largo de la película notarás que independientemente de como es la relación del juez Palmer con su hijo, Hank siempre espera algo de su padre, alguna palabra de reconocimiento o algo de afecto, y aunque no le sorprende su maltrato si le afecta profundamente, sus dos hermanos lo notan y jamás intervienen, se limitan a mirar. Su hermano mayor Glen esta recentido con él por haberse alejado de la familia y en cierta forma por haberle destruido su futuro, su hermano más joven es autista y si es amable con él o más bien, es amable con todos.

Being the best in your job doesn't guarantee happiness, 'cause despite being a successful lawyer, his personal life is a total disaster (to say the least,) and things don't seem to be getting any better. And although he returns to the small town where he was born in order to attend his mother's funeral, after fulfilling that, he rushes to buy a ticket to return home immediately, but suddenly everything gets complicated, his father gets into trouble and requires a lawyer, Hank gets off the plane and against his father's wishes he sets out to represent him. While all this is going on, a lot of reasons are revealed that clarify why the relationship between father and son is so deteriorated.

Ser el mejor en tu trabajo no garantiza la felicidad, porque a pesar de ser un abogado exitoso su vida personal es todo un desastre, por decir lo menos y las cosas no parecen mejorar con nada. Y aunque vuelve al pequeño pueblo en el que nació con el fin de asistir al funeral de su madre, después de cumplir con eso, compra un boleto para volver a su casa de inmediato, pero todo se complica, su padre se mete en problemas y requiere de un abogado, Hank baja del avión y encontra de los deseos de su padre se dispone a representarlo. Mientras ocurre todo esto se desvelan un sin fin de motivos que aclaran porqué la relación entre padre e hijo se deterioró tanto.

If you like movies with strong stories, with an extraordinary script, top-notch performances, family problems (almost extreme), excessive drama, a lot of unexpected events and lovers from the past, then this is the movie you have to see. More than one scene will leave you on the edge of your seat, and I am pretty sure this story will play with your feelings, fill you with helplessness and maybe even console you. I personally recommend it, you'll LOVE it.

Si te gustan las películas con historias fuertes, con un guión extraordinario, actuaciones de primera, problemas familiares (casi extremos), exceso de drama, muchas eventos inesperados y amores del pasado, entonces esta es la película que tienes que ver. Más de una escena te dejará al filo del sillón, y estoy seguro que esta historia jugará con tus sentimientos, te llenará de impotencia y hasta puede que te llegue a consolar. Te la recomiendo personalmente, te va a encantar.
