Do you like horror movies? Oh I love! This is where you have the opportunity to get your share of adrenaline, being in complete safety. You can say: "Ha-ha-ha! Are you serious? You did not have enough adrenaline for a whole year of the war, when you miraculously survived under shelling?!" Well what can I say... I'm probably incorrigible 😉
When I saw the review of the series The Mist based on the novel by Stephen King, my film plan for the weekend was full. I watched the movie and read the book, but I didn’t see the series and I was wondering what they stretched out there for 10 episodes.
As always, below I will give a short quote from Wikipedia describing the main plot (I still won’t do it better), and then I will share my thoughts. I do not presume to judge what the authors wanted to say, I will only share what I saw.
The Mist is an American science fiction-horror thriller television series developed by Christian Torpe. It is based on the 1980 horror novella of the same name by author Stephen King. The series aired for one 10-episode season on Spike from June 22 to August 24, 2017. Spike later cancelled the series on September 27 the same year.
An unexplained mist slowly envelops the town of Bridgeville, Maine, creating an almost impenetrable barrier to visibility. The residents of the town soon learn the situation is even more precarious as unexplained anomalies and phenomena in the mist attack and kill most who enter it, trapping several groups of people in a shopping mall, a church, and a hospital. Eventually, people begin to see apparitions in the mist from their past, fears, or guilt that help or kill them depending on how they react.

I want to say right away that the plot of the series differs in details from both the book and the film, but this does not change the essence. We are always afraid of the unknown. This is perfectly normal, this is the law of mankind survival. In many cultures, there are myths about mist as some kind of hostile substance. In the same way, we are afraid of darkness or water depth. But all this is nothing compared to the darkness of our soul. Those fears and secrets that we keep inside ourselves are sometimes worse than the most terrible monsters, because it is they that make us react and do things that are unpredictable even for ourselves.
For a person, the other person is both the greatest need and the greatest danger. The paradox of our existence. On the one hand, it seems to us that by uniting we ensure our survival. But put any group of people in extreme conditions and you will recognize each of them in a way that you did not even suspect!
Believe me, I know what I'm talking about! After all, I live in a country where there is a war. I saw how people change when it comes to survival, and these were examples of great courage and self-sacrifice and great cowardice and selfishness.
Never say never, because life will easily put you in those conditions when you will be forced to act by the method that you denied yesterday. Or you won't. But the fact is that we never know this in advance, no matter what we declare.
What scares me the most in the behavior of people in any critical situation is any manifestation of fanaticism. This is an infection that spreads easily, depriving people of the critical thinking ability that is absolutely necessary in such a situation. I always keep a little aloof, I am an observer by nature. Therefore, such manifestations frighten and repel me. Here it is perfectly shown how a whole group of people who are rational under normal conditions easily fall under the influence of an unstable person who imagines him/herself a prophet. Something seemed to someone (after all, the temptation to find someone to blame in a difficult situation is so great) and the "witch hunt" has already begun and you will not prove anything to the desperate crowd, fueled by the distraught character.
This is how I saw this series. Perhaps each of you will see something different in it. More precisely, each of you will definitely see something of your own in it, because each of us comes from his personal experience and vision of the world.
