Aside from the usual Isekai genre that I binge-read I also have some series I enjoy reading: the Sengoku Era. When this series Tenkaichi - Nihon Saikyou Bugeisha Ketteisen popped up magically on the manga list in manga bat I decided to give it a try since the staple series that I am reading are already either in hiatus or I am up to date.
Here's a short description of the series:
It will be a bloody violent battle a very violent one.
So Oda Nobunaga is nearing his death door, finally and his loyal retainers are eyeing the position to be the next ruler in Japan.
As crazy as he is no one really knows what plays to the mind of this old man, I mean maybe he has some plans to be reincarnated as well just like how he become one of the main characters in Drifters but one thing is for sure if he is plotting something there will be blood spill and action-packed series for sure.
The image above is also Oda Nobunaga but in an alternate universe just inserted it for pun source
So going back to the manga, if you had been a fan of Record of Ragnarok you will surely enjoy this one too as this gives a dept character portrayal to some of the well-known people from the Sengoku period.
Characters:
There's a variety of characters already in the series and as of writing, From the 20 chapters released, there have been 3 Death battles done, and 1 ongoing.
In hindsight, all of them are battle-frenzy people that got released from a huge curse called peace. Remember, Japan has been unified already and the people who only lived for battle are itching to have a death match on the battlefield. They say that the greatest death a warrior will face is in the hands of a worthy opponent.
Each one of them doesn't have a goal to conquer Japan. They are just the fighting pawns by the big guys and their death isn't that meaningful perhaps.
What I had enjoyed so far, is how they give each one of the characters a back story on how they acquired their skills. Some were gifted from birth, some were trained at an early age for the art of killing, some got enhanced by deadly poison and some are from tragedies. Well, I do not want to spoil who's who but definitely they are worth reading.
This one is a sample image of the fight. Prior to that, the exchange of blows on how it was presented is well drawn to the point that you will be hooked on the scenes.
What I enjoyed about this series is a fresh attempt at re-introducing some famous characters in Japan at that time. I am rooting for a more tragic ending as it seems that this will be the case for this one like no one lived at all and Oda Nobunaga still holds his ruling. But who knows maybe some other random guy will be the new shogun.
If you are a fan of tragedy or war manga let me know I might have some that I can recommend too because aside from Isekai I have a diverse reading too.
