I just watched this movie , It is exactly the kind of romantic comedy I did not know I needed, so the idea of the movie is really interesting, and It is set in a world that's basically like New York but with one big difference, there is one night a year where single people are allowed to have sex and this causes a lot of chaos.
The movie is about Allie and Owen ,two people who meet on this one night, Allie just got dumped by her boyfriend, She is still hoping to find real love, and Owen is also single, he is looking for something real, In a city where everyone is just going crazy , these two people might just be the only ones who are looking for something more than just a one night stand, something real, something called love, commitment...
When Allie and Owen meet, you can absolutely tell that they do have a good connection, you want them to always be together away, things do not go smoothly, they keep getting separated and then they kept finding each other again, It is just like they are racing to find each other in a city that is totally out of control.
Sure, I like that the movie uses this world as a background but the story is really simple, It is two people who want to find real love in a world that is only interested in just casual sex, and everyone around them is looking for a hookup but Allie and Owen want the opposite, this makes their meetings feel more meaningful and is more meaningful for this movie
The other supporting actors in the movie also did add a lot of flavor to the story, by this i mean people like Maya Hawke and Julia Fox show up, they make the night feel even more crazy and fun, this keeps the movie light and funny even when the romance thingy gets more serious.
The two main actors, Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner are truly really good together, they have that romantic comedy chemistry and you find yourself rooting for them , at least I did, you want them to be together by the end of the movie.
I will definitely say that high concept romcoms like this can at times over use the gimmick and lose sight of building any real emotional stakes, but this one is pretty well balanced, using the wild one night rule as its setting, rather than it completely dominating the love story that is trying to happen underneath it.
And by the end, the chase across the city, the near misses, the whole race against time before the night runs out, it all built toward that satisfying romcom payoff everyone watching is hoping for.
This movie has heart, humor, and just enough chaos to keep things fun without losing sight of the actual love story at its center, so I would definitely recommend it.
