This is a new shiny turd that popped on Netflix. I am always in for movies based on true events, regardless of genre, so I gave home team a watch the moment it came out, despite having no idea about American football and the main guy it portrays.
So this movie is a comedy about some Payton fella retiring to his hometown for a while, after some scandal or some shit. The movie didn't really shed some light on this. And then it's the same old story. Genious coach takes over a team of losers and takes them too the moon. Yayyyyyy! In this case, the teen football team of his son.
As much as I enjoy Kevin James, I didn't laugh much. Actually not once. And I felt really detached from the story and the characters. It wasn't super boring or bad... just meh.
There's really not much to say, just another Netflix mediocrity with some popular names appearing.
I guess it's a nice family movie to watch with the kids? Maybe. Other than that totally forgettable. I didn't even bother to learn more about the real events like I usually do after watching a movie based on true facts. And I am pretty sure it was very loosely based on them. Which isn't necessarily bad, sometimes it pays off. Just not this time.
I'll give it a 5/10 cause I feel generous.
