Rebel Moon: Why it's worth giving it a chance on Netflix (without critic's spells)

I started playing Rebel Moon without looking for analyses, reviews or critical opinions. I just wanted a sci-fi that would keep me hooked. And the surprise was that the film really delivers: it's simple, it's direct, it looks good and it doesn't try to entertain you with unnecessary jokes. It's Snyder in space, exactly as you know him.

It all starts as a small story, but it feels like a big universe. It doesn't take you in with complicated explanations, it doesn't suffocate you with details, but throws you straight into a world where a huge empire presses too hard on ordinary people. And from this tension, rebellion is born.

The back story is simple: Zack Snyder went to the bosses at Star Wars with an idea. They said nicely "no, thanks", and the man didn't give in. He gathered his ideas, went to Netflix and said: "Okay, I'll do it myself, exactly the way I want it". And that's exactly what came out: Snyder in space, without brakes and without accountability to anyone.

The two parts (A Child of Fire and The Scargiver) go hand in hand. No time is wasted with unnecessary filler scenes just to kill the clock. It's a simple story: you have a huge empire that comes to trample on whoever it can, and you have a handful of people who say "that's it".

Kora, the former soldier who runs the whole thing, is cool precisely because she's not some magical superhero. She's not "The Chosen One" and she doesn't have any extraordinary powers. She's just a person who has made a lot of mistakes in her life and is now trying to do something good. She's imperfect, she's tough and she won't give up.

Snyder’s inspirations hit you right in the face:

  • He took the team-building scheme from Seven Samurai.
  • He put in spaceships and empires from Star Wars.
  • He put in heavy armor and a dark atmosphere from Warhammer 40K. -He borrowed from the serious vibe from Dune.

But he mixed them in his own style. Visually, the film looks solid. The fights have that classic Snyder slow-motion — you either love it or hate it, but at least the man has his own clear style.

And what I liked the most is that the film doesn't make fun of you and doesn't try to insert jokes every two minutes, like Marvel or Disney films do when they want to lighten the mood. It's a serious film, a bit brutal, straight to the point.

You don't have to be critical to understand Rebel Moon. You don't have to be a sci-fi fan, you don't have to have patience for complicated universes. All you need to know is that Zack Snyder took a rejected idea and transformed it into a universe that breathes freedom, rebellion, and the stubbornness of ordinary people. Rebel Moon doesn't try to be "the great sci-fi of this generation," but a film that shows you what happens when an empire gets on your nerves too much.

Ultimately, Rebel Moon isn't about complicated prophecies or saving the entire galaxy. It's about a village of farmers who refuse to bow down to spaceship thugs. If you want a simple sci-fi that looks good and has plenty of action without being complicated, give it a try one night.

The director’s cut sounds interesting. I haven’t watched it yet but I can definitely understand why the visuals and action would make this movie enjoyable. Sometimes a movie is just meant to be fun.

Wow!! I never expected to see that incredible score you gave it 😱😱, but after seeing huge scores for Gunn's Superman... well now I believe anything haha 😂😂

I applaud you for not following trends when it comes to reviews, because what you say is absolutely true and it's a point in favor of the film... At least it doesn't have the stupid jokes that run rampant in so many other movies

I think Snyder's problem isn't Snyder himself; it's the expectations of people wanting to critique and destroy even the smallest things, amplifying those tiny details

As a concept, it was a massive gamble that, in my case, didn't deliver as a story because everything Snyder wanted to show here was so clumsy. I feel like he needlessly choked on his own film; the problem is the story he wanted to tell

Other than that, the villain, the choreography, and the visuals are very good. The sword fighter scene and character, she is my absolute favorite 🤩🤩👍🏻

WoW!!
