Wednesday and its numerous references to Edgar Allan Poe 🧐 - ENG/ESP

Good day Hivers and Movies&Tvshows community, for me it was inevitable to pass by here doing a review about Tim Burton's new series "Wednesday" based on the daughter of the Addams family, dark, sarcastic, but especially iconic characters that have already had many adaptations to the screen due to their popularity. I wanted to talk about this series not only because it caught my attention for its style, director and background, but because as I was watching it I was excited to realize that the series had multiple references to my favorite writer of all time: Edgar Allan Poe, being the latter a famous writer considered a universal master of the short story, icon of the gothic novel and great writer of horror stories (I love you Edgar ❤️).

Buen día Hivers y comunidad de Movies&Tvshows, para mí era inevitable pasar por aquí haciendo una reseña sobre la nueva serie de Tim Burton "Wednesday" basada en la hija de la familia Addams, personajes oscuros, sarcásticos, pero sobre todo icónicos que han tenido ya varias adaptaciones a la pantalla por su popularidad. Quería hablar de esta serie no solo por el hecho de que llamo mi atención por su estilo, director y trasfondo, sino porque mientras la iba viendo me emocione al darme cuenta de que la serie tenía varias referencias a mi escritor favorito de todos los tiempos: Edgar Allan Poe, siendo este último un famoso escritor considerado maestro universal del relato corto, icono de la novela gótica y gran escritor de historias de terror (te amo Edgar ❤️).

Okay, first let's start talking about my thoughts regarding the series in general.

We all know that art usually adjusts to the time it is created, personally I think Tim Burton did a good job adapting Wednesday to the current era without losing the essence of the Addams family and Wednesday, as the series has several elements that fit with social circumstances that are being seen today, but still has its dark, sarcastic and uncommon tone that characterizes the story and its main characters. I want to emphasize that this is a more youthful adaptation, as it is based on Wednesday's teenage experience and is aimed at today's youth, so I find it makes sense that a sector of more adult people or those who are used to previous adaptations may not like it as much, but for me it met my expectations and it's good to see that several people liked it too. 

Okey, comencemos a hablar primero de mis pensamientos respecto a la serie en general.

Todos sabemos que el arte normalmente se va ajustando a la época que es creado, personalmente pienso que Tim Burton hizo un buen trabajo adaptando Wednesday a la época actual sin perder del todo la esencia de la familia Addams y Wednesday, pues la serie cuenta con varios elementos que encajan con circunstancias sociales que se están viendo hoy día, pero aun así tiene su tono oscuro, sarcástico y poco común que caracteriza a la historia y sus personajes principales. Quiero destacar que esta es una adaptación más juvenil, pues es basada en la vivencia adolescente de Wednesday y está dirigida a la juventud actual, por lo que encuentro que tiene sentido que a un sector de personas más adultas o que se acostumbraron a las adaptaciones anteriores tal vez no les agrade tanto, pero para mí cumplió mis expectativas y es bueno ver que a varias personas les gusto también. 

I think Jenna Ortega did a good job giving life to Wednesday, visually she kept the vibe and look of the character, I thought it was great that she didn't blink while recording her scenes to give a more particular touch to her interpretation and her way of talking was in line with what you would expect from Wednesday. I think you can tell that maybe this Wednesday wasn't as sadistic as the previous ones, but I believe it's because they wanted to give her a more humanized approach, since she is supposed to be growing and evolving, let's remember that although the Addams family is dark they are not really bad people as such.

Jenna Ortega me parece que hizo un buen trabajo dando vida a Wednesday, visualmente mantuvo la vibra y el aspecto del personaje, me pareció genial que no parpadeara grabando sus escenas para darle un toque más particular a su interpretación y su forma de hablar iba acorde con lo que se esperaría de Wednesday. Creo que se puede notar que tal vez esta Wednesday no era tan sádica como la de las anteriores entregas, pero creo que es porque le quisieron dar un enfoque más humanizado, pues se supone que está creciendo y evolucionando, recordemos que aunque la familia Addams es oscura realmente no son malos como tal.

Many people were quick to judge Gomez's character based only on his physical appearance, kind of respectable, everyone has their own tastes, but in my opinion the actor did an excellent job with his interpretation and was very similar to the original Gomez. Regarding Morticia, I enjoyed the performance of the great actress Catherine Zeta Jones (I love that actress since Chicago), the only thing that didn't convince me was the make-up they gave her, I think they should have given her a more elegant make-up style, but well, details.

Their romantic relationship didn't seem bad to me, but I think it can be improved by taking it on a more elegant sensuality path, they had the complicity of the original couple, but I think it looked a bit mundane 🤔.

Muchas personas fueron rápidas para juzgar al personaje de Gomez basándose solo en su apariencia física, respetable, cada quien tiene sus gustos, pero a mi parecer el actor hizo un excelente trabajo con su interpretación y era bastante parecido al Gomez original. Con respecto a Morticia me gusto bastante la interpretación de la gran actriz Catherine Zeta Jones (me encanta esa actriz desde Chicago), lo único que no me convenció fue el maquillaje que le hicieron, creo que debieron hacerle un estilo de maquillaje más elegante, pero bueno, detalles.

Su relación romántica no me pareció mal, pero creo que puede mejorarse llevándola por un camino de sensualidad más elegante, tenían la complicidad de la pareja original, pero creo que se veía un poco mundano.

Do we all agree that Thing was one of the best characters in the series? 

I think I can speak for almost everyone when I say that one of the most beloved characters in this rendition was Thing, Wednesday's unconditional helping hand who supported her and cared about her, plus he was quite funny 🤙.

¿Estamos todos de acuerdo que Dedos fue uno de los mejores personajes de la serie? 

Creo que puedo hablar por casi todos al decir que uno de los personajes más queridos de esta entrega fue Dedos, la mano amiga incondicional de Wednesday que la apoyaba y se preocupaba por ella, además era bastante gracioso 🤙.

Now let's talk about the references to my lord Edgar Allan Poe 🙇‍♀️.

You can imagine my excitement when one of the chapters of the series was filled with references to my beloved writer, seeing how the tournament that was presented was called "The Poe Cup" gave me joy and seeing how the 4 participating teams were named according to different Edgar stories that I love for me was fascinating (the black cat, the gold bug, the pit and the pendulum and the cask of amontillado). Not only that, but to gain access to a secret library you have to solve a riddle that is on a super beautiful statue of Edgar Allan Poe featuring him with a book and a raven (the iconic raven).

The story progresses and references to Edgar are still noticeable, as when Morticia tells Wednesday that she is like a raven, plus the dark tone full of mystery and crime of the series is a great wink to Edgar's novels, in itself the academy with its name "Nevermore" is already paying great tribute to the writer.

Ahora hablemos de las referencias a mi señor Edgar Allan Poe 🙇‍♀️.

Se podrán imaginar mi emoción cuando uno de los capítulos de la serie estaba lleno de referencias a mi querido escritor, el ver como el torneo que se presentó se llamaba "La copa Poe" me dio alegría y ver como los 4 equipos participantes se llamaban acorde a diferentes historias de Edgar que me encantan para mí fue fascinante (el gato negro, el escarabajo de oro, el pozo y el péndulo y el barril de amontillado). Y eso no es todo, sino que para acceder a una biblioteca secreta se tiene que resolver un acertijo que está en una estatua de Edgar Allan Poe superhermosa donde sale él con un libro y un cuervo (el icónico cuervo).

La historia avanza y se siguen apreciando referencias a Edgar, como cuando Morticia le dice a Wednesday que ella es como un cuervo, más el tono oscuro lleno de misterio y crimen de la serie es un gran guiño a las novelas de Edgar, en sí la academia con su nombre "Nevermore" ya está rindiéndole gran tributo al escritor.

I think that in general the actors did a good job portraying the characters, both the main and secondary, I really liked the character of Enid, she is a little too extroverted, but she has a very good heart and I liked her face because she looks like a cat 🤭🐱. I want to highlight Gwendoline Christie as Principal Weems, I loved her performance, she was elegant and obviously I must highlight the participation of Christina Ricci (great actress and one of the most popular Wednesday) as the teacher Marilyn Thornhill.

The series turns out to be quite entertaining and easy to watch, it has mystery, suspense, crimes, monsters, supernatural beings, black humor and dark scenarios that call the attention, I recommend it?, if you like stories like the one I just described, totally.

Creo que en general los actores hicieron un buen trabajo representando a los personajes, tanto los principales como los secundarios, me gustó mucho el personaje de Enid, es un poco demasiado extrovertida, pero tiene muy buen corazón y me gusto su cara porque parece un gato 🤭🐱. Quiero destacar a Gwendoline Christie como la directora Weems, me encanto su actuación, derrochaba elegancia y obviamente debo destacar la participación de Christina Ricci (gran actriz y una de las Wednesday más populares) como la profesora Marilyn Thornhill

La serie resulta ser bastante entretenida y fácil de ver, tiene misterio, suspenso, crímenes, monstruos, seres sobrenaturales, humor negro y escenarios oscuros que llaman la atención, ¿la recomiendo?, si te gustan las historias como la que acabo de describir, totalmente.
