APEX (2026) REVIEW

Review by @van.illa 🏆#118 🔥1 🎵13 🎬13 · 19h · of Apex · 1 view

Apex (2026)is a survival thriller, an interesting movie directed by Baltasar Kormákur and featuring the movie stars Charlize Theron as Sasha and Taron Egerton as Ben. Apex is a very interesting survival thriller. The movie is really unpredictable, every scene screams danger from the high hills and the way it's being climbed from a distance. What surprised me the most while watching this movie was that the height of the hills is great, but another human being in the lonely forest. The chase in this movie portrays a race between a cat and a mouse.

The movie star Charlize Theron called Sasha in this movie, who's a good climber, and also carries an emotional weight after losing a partner while climbing travels to a wilderness in Australia. A trip to forget her grief ends up being a fight for survival when she encounters Ben, a character played by Taron Egerton. Her first encounter with Ben was a friendly one, he even protected her and I never saw him as a threat, not knowing Ben is a psychopath who was just about to play a deadly game and hunt her like a hunter chases his prey.

One of this movies greatest strength is the performance of Charlize Theron, She demonstrates physicality perfectly. She wasn't only running from her attacker, but also climbing, swimming, fighting, and constantly using her initiative and improvising in an environment she wasn't familiar with, but had to escape her attacker, who was so determined to destroy her, like he has done to many who visited the wilderness. Watching this movie, her exhaustion and desperation was really believable to me, the decision she took to survive and save her life.

Also, Taron Egerton antagonist performance was excellent, a very unpredictable character from the beginning. He moved from being a helpful and trustworthy stranger to an extremely terrifying predator. He created a tension that kept the movie going and intriguing to watch to the end.

The setting of this movie, "Australian Wilderness", also made this movie intriguing to watch. The beautiful landscape, the rivers, the cliffs, thick forest, all made the hunting between Sasha and Ben realistic and scary to watch. The environment shows us how complex it was for her to survive and the obstacles she faced and still survived. The film location is the best pick; the visual representation and the cinematography.

Apex struggled with originality. What made the movie quite unique is the setting and environment. Apart from that, it's very similar to many survival thrillers that I have watched; It follows a familiar formula. Nevertheless, the movie doesn't waste much time, it's a straightforward movie, every scene is full of tension and physical action.

Also, Apex (2026) might not be an original survival thriller, but the performances of Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton made the movie interesting to watch, the landscape made the film a unique one.

I will be rating the movie Apex (2026), 80/ 100.

The way grief slowly turns into survival really was great. her skills became more than just a physical advantage it felt like she was fighting to let go of the guilt she had been carrying I liked it too

It's a movie to pass the time; it has good special effects and spectacular scenery—you can't deny it—it's worth watching.
