Some days are completely and simply bad , but this movie One of Them Days (2025) takes the idea of having “one of them days” to an entirely different level. A movie featuring one of my favourite comedy stars, Keke Palmer and SZA as two best friends. Seeing these two together in one movie made me really curious to watch. A movie directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton.
The movie follows Keke Palmer and SZA, whose names are Dreux and Alyssa, respectively. They were both roommates, with very different personalities and flaws, but loved each other regardless. They realized that the money saved for their rent had been spent by Alyssa's boyfriend and their time for eviction was just a few hours away and now the two best friends had to find the money or lose their shelter.
What made the storyline fascinating is how every moment they thought they had found a solution seemed like they had created more problems for themselves. The day moved quickly with welcoming problems. Any attempt to raise the money leads to ridiculous problems, uncovers new chaotic issues, and they had a countdown before eviction. The story is such an energetic, hilarious and unpredictable one.
Keke Palmer did a great job in this movie, like she always does, she was the strongest element. She portrayed the character Dreux effortlessly, it was so natural and expressive and energetic. She acted perfectly in every scene and gave her character enough emotional depth, which made her struggles seem very real/ believable.
Dreux unlike her roommate, was a responsible and determined person who really wants to build a good life for herself. Meanwhile, SZA known as Allysa, is the opposite of her best friend Dreux. She's the irresponsible friend who always makes questionable decisions. SZA performance in this movie was great, even with her visible flaws, I liked her performance in this movie. Dreux and Alyssa's chemistry is the greatest strength of this movie. They both did well in executing their roles and that was what made this movie fascinating to watch.
The comedy aspect of this movie is one of the best parts, and the supporting cast all contributed significantly to these parts; Katt Williams,Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Janelle James. They all turned simple conversations into hilarious moments, an opportunity to laugh. The characters all took ridiculous circumstances very seriously and personally.
But beyond the jokes and comedy, this movie also touched real life circumstances like financial problems, expensive housing, unemployment, differences and problems in relationships, predatory lending. The story might be funny, but it passed real life circumstances that viewers can relate to in reality. It shows the struggle young people go through to survive, in a world that keeps growing expensive by the day.
The movie, One Of Them Days, might have its weaknesses and some situations in the movie might seem unrealistic and predictable, but the movie successfully entertained its viewers. The friendship between Dreux and Allysa remains the heart of the story. Personally, I learnt that some days might be bad, but with the right person beside you, the weight seems easier. That's what buddy comedy is all about, but watching the movie One Of Them Days made it more interesting and entertaining.
Ultimately, the movie One of Them Days is really a funny, chaotic and surprisingly heartfelt movie. There are moments of laughter and high emotions. The movie made a bad day seem hilarious and yet overwhelming. The strong chemistry between Keke Palmer and SZA is what I enjoyed the most. The viewers were successfully entertained till the end.
I would suggest you watch One of them days (2025) if you are looking for a lighthearted movie to watch, a comedy movie that's interesting, but has important/significant messages too, The movie, One of them days (2025) is a buddy comedy that's definitely worth watching. I will rate it 80/100.
