Review by @waralotito 🏆#25 🔥14 🎵2.2k 🎬30 · 2h · of Hercules · 2 views

ENGLISH VERSION

Hercules (1997): The True Meaning of Being a Hero

Good afternoon, Scrobble community, today I bring you an animated movie. As some of you may know, I'm a fan of this type of movies, especially if they are Disney, but be careful, the old ones, not so much the new ones.

So today I chose this one, which I watched a lot when I was little and always have fun with.

🎬 A bit of context

Zeus and Hera were celebrating the birth of their son, Hercules, in Olympus, where a grand party was held and all the gods were invited.

Each guest had brought a gift for the child, so there was a huge pile of presents. Hera reminded Zeus that they should also give something to their son, and they decided to give him a winged horse that they would call Pegasus.

Everything seemed happy until the god of the underworld, Hades, arrived, who also came to greet the child and give him his gift. But the baby seemed to sense that he had no good intentions and ended up bending his finger.

Later, Hades met with the Fates, who revealed his future, foretelling that he could overthrow Zeus and rule Olympus, but there would be a hero who, if he fought with all his might, could defeat him and thus put an end to his evil plan.

So without wasting any time, Hades devised a plan to get rid of this hero, who was Hercules. Since he was still a baby, it would be easier, so he ordered his minions, Pain and Panic, to give him a potion to make him mortal and then kill him easily.

They kidnaped Hercules and took him to Earth, and while they were giving him the potion, they were interrupted by a couple of farmers who, seeing the baby alone on the ground, decided to adopt him. But then the henchmen activate the second part of the plan, to kill the baby, but he defends himself in an almost inhuman way and manages to get rid of them.

The couple, very astonished, picked up the baby and took him away.

Years later, Hercules began to grow up, but soon the whole town noticed that this boy was very strange; he was super skinny, but he had enormous strength, he didn't talk much, and people preferred to avoid him.

Hercules, tired of all this, asked his parents why he was different from the others, to which they told him they found him on the street and had adopted him. That day, he only had a strange medallion with the symbol of the gods, so he, very determined, went in search of answers to the place where it was said the gods descended to speak with humans.

Upon arriving at this place, he encounters a very large statue of Zeus, which comes to life through a thunderbolt and begins to speak with Hercules. He told him everything that had happened since he was a baby, how he was kidnaped, and that when they finally found him, he could no longer go with them because he had lost his powers as a god.

But he tells him that there is a solution, he had to become a true hero and only then could he return to his true parents and be a god. Then he tells him to seek out Philoctetes so that he can train him and help him become a hero.

Hercules set out on the journey accompanied by Pegado, his great childhood friend. And he goes in search of this being who will help him return to Olympus.

If you want to know what happens to Hercules and if he manages to return to Olympus, I invite you to watch this great movie.

⚠ ALERT: From now on, there will be many spoilers, so you have been warned.

♥ What I liked the most

I've always liked this movie, I always discover new things hehe, like who did the voice of Hercules, by the way, it was Ricky Martin.

I loved playing the Hercules video game, it was super fun and a bit addictive haha. Among the scenes I liked the most is the one where Hercules and Pegasus meet, look at each other, and bump their heads, hehe. In the same way, he remembers it again when he is a teenager.

Another scene that makes me laugh a lot is when Hercules meets Philoctetes and he doesn't want to train him because he had had very bad luck with his previous students, they always had some problem or died and none had become a great hero.

At that moment, a lightning bolt strikes, implying that he should help Hercules because he was truly the son of Zeus. He accepts without hesitation and begins to train him.

Afterward, it's very funny to see how Hercules trains, he does it very clumsily and without being careful when rescuing the rag doll, which was a representation of a damsel in distress hehe.

Then, when he manages to get super muscular, they test his work as a hero by going to see if there was someone in danger to save. That's where he meets Megara, who was being chased by a centaur.

Hercules, in trying to save her, ends up beaten and insulted, but he doesn't give up and, although clumsily and without thinking, he gives the centaur what he deserves and saves the girl. She just tells him that he shouldn't have gotten involved in those big people's matters, but she thanks him for what he did, hehe.

The dynamic between the two of them is very funny because, on one hand, Megara already had experience in love but didn't want to fall in love again because she had suffered a lot, and that's precisely why she ended up becoming a kind of servant to the god Hades.

Another super funny part is when Hades tries by all means to defeat Hercules, coming up with new scenarios and which monsters to fight. At that moment, his henchmen interrupt, showing that they were using Hercules' merchandise, pure irony haha.

Lastly, I really liked the scene where Megara sings and realizes that she has fallen in love with Hercules and that there was nothing she could do about it anymore.

This is also demonstrated when, despite having participated in Hades' plan, she risks her life to save him, and Hercules, for his part, also risks his life by going in search of her soul.

In the end, both survive and demonstrate the great love they feel for each other, and Hercules' sacrifice allows him to regain his immortality and also his pass to return to Olympus as a god.

☁ Some reflections

This movie leaves us with beautiful reflections; on one hand, it shows that to be a hero you don't need to be big and strong; the important thing is to act from the heart and not only care about oneself but also about others.

It also teaches us that, even if we have had bad experiences in love, it doesn't mean the next time will be the same. Hercules and Megara showed that true and beautiful love can exist with the right person.

And, finally, sometimes we believe that following certain paths won't take us where we want to go, but during the journey, we can learn and discover the meaning of our lives. But I believe we can only discover it if we dare to take the next step, to step out of our comfort zone and seek it on our own, falling, getting up, and learning.

I hope you enjoyed this movie and that you leave your favorite scene in the comments. Thank you for reading, and see you in the next post.
