🎬TV series "The Son" - oil, Texas, Indians, Mexicans and Pierce Brosnan

Review by @weeklystats Β· 3349d Β· of The Son

I like TV series with themes of the migration of peoples (transportation of prisoners from England to Australia), construction (railways, cities). Offhand, I can recall "Hell on wheels", "Jamestown", "Jericho". Most of them are not very good, the documentary is better, but the choice is huge and can be found to your taste.

I did not intend to watch "The Son", I was not interested in plot. However, Pierce Brosnan is the performer of my favorite version of James Bond, so it was the decisive factor. Image source

PLOT

Eli McCullough is a man with the unfortunate plight. He was a child when Indians captured him , but the difficulties only tempered his character. Now he is the owner of a ranch on which the land is constantly raided by Mexicans.

Released by AMC April 8, 2017

RESUME

The plot is divided into 2 parts: the young Eli McCullough (actor Jacob Lofland), captured by the Indians and "modernity" - old Colonel Eli McCullough, the owner of the ranch, whose ambitions and desire for power are prohibitive. Image source

The first episodes fascinated me very much, I liked the captive boy's line, the presence of cruel scenes that helped to feel that era, and also showed the beginning of the formation of a miserable boy in a man with a steel character. He used to only take, without providing anything in return. Initially, Eli seems to us a person with high moral principles, although he is ready to give up to them in exceptional cases, but by the end of the season, we see his real essence.

On the one hand, "The Son" is a very high-quality product. A good cast of actors, well-trained characters, the creators of the series raise serious topics for discussion. On the other hand, I do not believe that in the Wild West at that time there was such excessive purity. Pierce Brosnan plays well, but I see in him intelligence, aristocracy. A man who rides a whole day on a horse, and then, lying in the bushes, waiting for Mexicans, still looks like on a catalog cover. A kind of "English gentleman." And such moments are repulsive.

I did not find a character whom I could sympathize or feel strong antipathy. There are bad and good, but no one attracts to himself, does not cause any emotion.

In general, you can try to watch the series "The Son" if you a fan of the history of the Wild West, the more Texas has always been different from the rest of America. This is the birthplace of Texas cowboys, people who have an amazing entrepreneurial spirit, and children are born right away with weapons in their hands).

Personally, I'm not going to watch the second season. Every story needs a memorable detail but I didn't find any in "The Son".
