🎬Watching novelties: Manhunt: Unabomber (2017– )

Review by @weeklystats Β· 3274d Β· of Manhunt

Discovery Channel released a crime drama "Manhunt: Unabomber" based on a true story. By the degree of interest, this story can be compared with Zodiac. I watched 3 episodes and share my impression with you.

Sam Worthington starring as Jim Fitzgerald - FBI profiler.

He is very gifted, but he is not allowed to get interesting cases. He dealt with violators, those who painted graffiti. The thing is that he refused to comply with his boss's request and charge penalties from his friend. But soon he is invited to work in a large department, which is investigating the case of Unabomber.
Unabomber is a real terrorist who sent bombs by mail.

The objects of the explosions were airlines and universities. He sent 16 bombs from 1978 to 1995. The FBI could not catch him for a long time. Unabomber did not leave any clues and fingerprints. The philosophy of Unabomber declared modern technology to be the main threat to freedom, alienating people from simple and pure life in harmony with nature. I won't tell who's Unabomber in order not to spoil the plot.

The narrative shows us 2 times - the past with the investigation and the present with collecting evidence for the trial. In silence, we hear the words of Unabomber, his manifesto. And it is very difficult not to agree with him.

more people have died from suicide in just the time we've been talking than I allegedly killed in my entire career. More people died from anti-depressants, plastic surgery, fast food. Why...W-why is everybody so terrified of me?

The history of Unabomber is known to many and it would not be so interesting to watch it if the creators did not add Jim Fitzgerald struggle against the FBI system. Since his arrival in the department, Jim is trying to subdue and force him to do what he does not want. He wants freedom of action. Jim has progressive methods of work, but the bosses know best. They make fun of him, mock him, try to fire him. But he does not give up and stubbornly comes through. The TV series atmosphere is very grim. Despite the monotonous narrative, we are constantly brought back to reality through explosions and memories of murdered people.

As I said Manhunt: Unabomber is very similar to Zodiac. If you liked Zodiac, you will like it and Manhunt: Unabomber.
