Assassin (2023)|| Every "Body" is a Weapon

Review by @wongi · 1170d · of Assassin

For a moment, I thought that "this is not my body" was the name of this movie because of how often it was repeated. I saw this movie a week ago and felt very reluctant to watch it. This reluctance came to an end yesterday when a friend visited.

Assassin is an action movie that wanted to play with my mind in the beginning and towards the end too. The movie opens with a scene where a son is reprimanding his dad for leaving the car and the next thing, the son is assaulted by the dad. It was funny but at the same time confusing. Why would a dad kill his son? I wondered.

Alexa(Nomzomo Mbatha), who is eager to bring her husband out of a coma, confronts Valmora(Bruce Willis). Valmora introduces her to his team and their invention "the future of warfare". Alaxa, who is willing to go to the ends of the earth to get her husband back, accepts to be used as a tool.

The drill is that Alexa is put into a bathtub filled with ice cubes(to help numb her nerves). The bathtub is connected to some form of technology which helps to invade another person's body in split seconds. Every "body" can be used as a weapon. This is a movie that would interest people who like teleportation.

With that, Alexa is used as a tool to kill the "enemies". Little did she know that there were massive side effects that came with this art. She was successful on her first trial and subsequent trails but at some point, things went sideways(of course, they always do)

I must say that this movie isn't so bad for Bruce Willis last movie before retirement.

Cast

The movie is starred by:

  • Bruce Willis as Valmora
  • Nomzomo Mbatha as Alexa
  • Dominic Purcell Adrien
  • Hannah Quinlivan as special agent
  • Mustafa Shakir as sebastian
  • Andy Allo as Mali.

I like the spark that was ignited between Alexa and Mali. As usual, Alexa invaded Mail's body but along the line, they grew united. Their unison helped in the accomplishment of Alexa's sole aim which was to bring down Adrian as he was the reason behind her husband's situation.

A scene that stood out for me was when Alexa invaded the body of a pregnant woman in a means to take down one of Adrien's men. Her mission was successful but she woke up as a pregnant woman. It was quite a hilarious scene to behold.

There were some downsides to this movie too. Due to Bruce Willis' condition(frontotemporal dementia), the role he acted in was devoid of emotions. Although he gave it his best, the glitches were still very noticeable.

This movie was a good watch and I would recommend it for people with stable minds. If you're one to get easily confused, then you should pass on this offer. I'd give the movie 6/10 judging from the way action movies are supposed to be.

Thank you for your time

With love, wongi ✨

I think Bruce Willis is brilliant, I have not seen this though and sad to say you noticed his acting suffered with the dementia :(

This my first time of coming across this movie from your review. The first thing that came to my mind when i saw your post was, "but... Bruce Willis retired already because of his condition." I guess this was his last movie as stated in your post. I love sci-fi movies as such this movie will be on my must watch list.
