Sympathy For The Devil || A Not-So Horror Movie

Review by @wongi · 1152d · of Sympathy for the Devil

Hello Movie Lovers✨

The movie I would be reviewing today is one of a kind and I haven't reviewed this type of movie before. By one of a kind I mean a double main character type of movie. Most movies usually have the main character and the opposing character but "Sympathy For The Devil" is one with two main characters who both have different stories which are connected in the end.

The title of the movie "Sympathy For The Devil" sounds a bit off in comparison to the storyline. When I saw that title, I prepared myself for an hour and thirty minutes of thrills, terror and maybe consternation but well, I guess the title was a click bait for horror movies lovers.

Sympathy for the devil is a movie released on the 28th of July 2023. It is a psychological thriller directed by Yuval Adler.

About The Movie

A driver who had just arrived at the hospital is told to drive to a location at gunpoint by a strange passenger. He is reluctant for a bit but when he realises that the passenger with the gun means busy, he decides to drive to an unknown location. During the journey, a series of events begin to unravel and the hidden details start to come to light.

The driver–who was addressed by different names– had a family emergency and all he wanted was to be at the hospital with his wife but we do not always get what we want in life.

Cast

Nicolas Cage as The Passenger

Nicolas plays the role of the mysterious passenger who steps into the car and starts giving orders. I like the look he was given for this role. He had red hair and we wore a red suit. I feel this added to the fact that he was a mentally unstable character.

But as usual, he stole the show whenever he got the opportunity to. He acted out his role with much passion and he always added a touch of sarcasm to his tone.

Joel Kinnaman as The driver

Joel played the part of the somewhat unfortunate driver who was being controlled. He tried all the stunts he knew just to get his freedom but the passenger was always a step ahead of him.

It was clear that the driver was so tense, agitated and at the same time confused. His wife was giving birth yet he was so many miles away from the hospital because of the strange passenger. I would be agitated too if I were in his shoes.

My Opinion.

Although I didn't get to see most of the cast, the movie was still watch-worthy. I like that the movie was designed in a way to keep the viewers hooked and possibly waiting for the next thrilling detail or the next exciting confession.

The term psychological was really portrayed in this movie. I can remember rewinding the movie a few times because I mistakenly took my gaze off for a few seconds and upon returning, I didn't know what was going on anymore.

I still feel that the movie could have been better if more passion and vigour was portrayed by the casts. There were scenes that would have been splendid and mind-blowing if a little effect or a tad bit of passion was added.

One scene that stood out for me was the part where the driver and the passenger stopped at a dinner. They tried to maintain composure but the passenger blew the cover. As a truck driver who was in the diner made to leave, the passenger commanded that he sit back. The way he sat in a heartbeat was really hilarious.

Recommendation

This movie wasn't at its best but to reiterate, it is watch-worthy. I would give it a 6/10 rating. One take out from the movie is that revenge doesn't always end well whether you're right or you're wrong. If you want to learn more about critical thinking then you can watch this movie.

It isn't highly recommended but I'm certain you wouldn't totally hate watching it. If you eventually watch the movie, I would like to hear about your experience.
