Ever since I started taking French classes, I've found myself needing to find ways to become conversant with the language. I haven't started reading books because of time, but I listen to French songs, my favourite being 'Alors en dans' by Stormae, and seeing French related movies like Emily in Paris.

Emily in Paris is a Netflix romantic, comedy and drama series which was has been available on Netflix since October 2nd 2020. The series was created by Darren Star and currently has only 1 season, in anticipation of the second season to come.

The entire series explores the culture, romance and universal character traits of the typical French and how difficult it would appear for a typical American to blend into their system.

The season has 10 episodes, all screening between 25 to 30 minutes, and the main cast of 8, including Lily Collins who plays the role of Emily, Phillippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie her boss, Ashley Park as Mindy, and Lucas Bravo as Gabriel.

The entire series is centred on the life of Emily who struggles to understand the new life she has found herself in Paris, adjusting to their way of life, food, romance and work.

She arrives in Paris, hoping that she would be able to maintain her relationship with her boyfriend all the way in Chicago but the relationship ends quickly and she ends up single in Paris, trying to understand their kind of romance.

Shee has her neighbour Gabriel who obviously has strong chemistry with her but things get complicated with them when she finds out he has a girlfriend called Camille who quickly becomes close friends with Emily and makes it difficult for her to completely avoid Gabriel.

Her friend Mindy plays an important role by being her first confidant in the city. She's a wealthy Asian girl who ran away from her life in China with a rich family and an already planned life to live in Paris as a nanny and fulfil her own dreams.

Emily's boss, Sylvia, hates her but comes to terms with the fact that in the end, she can't completely let go of Emily. Emily brings an American touch into the workplace and gets everyone to eventually fall in line with her enthusiastic work spirit and drive.

As a marketing professional, she impresses her French clients with her creativity and her ability to think outside the box on several campaigns.

It turns out to be an interesting ride for Emily and I would hate to drop every detail with you but this is an amazing series to get engrossed in if you're a lover of cheesy romance and love searching. It's beautifully written and the romance scenes are PG16, much to m dismay.
