Series review: Designated Survivor

Review by @young-boss-karin · 1446d · of Designated Survivor

Designated Survivor is a Netflix original movie series. I only saw it because it's 3 seasons long and the end of the third season was actually the show's end. I had no idea how the show would make me feel, but I tried it.

Plot

The show centres around a man called Tom Kirkman who was the HUD secretary of the United States until one faithful night when the President, his Vice, and all members of parliament died at a bombing of the Capitol building during a summit.

Unknown to him, Tom had been the victim of a ploy where he had been made the designated survivor in the event that such a thing took place. Making him the designated survivor was done in an attempt to use his weakness as HUD secretary to remove him from office quickly and allow a terrorist organisation to take over the US Government.

At the end of the second season, the perpetrators of the Capitol building were brought to justice and from that point on, there was one important problem to solve to another problem to solve.

Through the aid of an FBI agent called Hannah Wells, the President was able to use her eyes and her experience to figure out a lot of problems and to help create balance in the country.

My thoughts

The first season of the show was great. There was a nice combination of action, diplomacy and mystery. The cast was great and it felt like the show was heading somewhere. However, I had the mental question of what exactly they intend on acting for the entire 3 seasons. Safe to say that I was disappointed.

After the people guilty of the Capitol bombing were found, the show went downhill. There was limited content, unnecessary mystery and just irrelevant drama.

My opinion of the show was spot on towards the end when some main cast of the show just began to die or disappear. I never understand why the moment a show loses its juice people simply disappear without question.

That ruined it for me but I had to complete it to get a full picture of just how silly it became towards the end.

Rating and recommendation

I would rate this show a 2/5. It started off great but the end was way too silly for me to accept. I don't recommend it either because there are so many m=better shows out there.

Wow🤧 it's so sad when a show loses the meaning near the end. It's like an investment gone sour.

I feel same way about it.. by the third season it was just sham sham..

The action was reduced to mere predictable outcomes..
