Saludos estimados cinéfilos de #CineTV. Hoy quiero aprovechar este día para participar en su iniciativa de Película Sobrenatural Favorita, y para ello quiero hacerlo con un film que considero un clásico del terror psicológico que en su momento fue un éxito total en taquilla y mantuvo a muchos al filo del asiento. La película que elegí es El Proyecto de la Bruja de Blair.

I've always had a soft spot for period dramas. There's something about them that fascinates me: the characters, the costumes, the manners, the conflicts... everything seems to come from an unreal world, but deep down you know that it was real. That there was a time in history when humanity thought, loved, and behaved that way. The Gilded Age captivated me precisely because of that: for showing in such detail and elegance an era that was not only one of luxury and appearances, but also of deep social tensions. From the first episode, I knew it would not be a lighthearted or romantic series, but rather a critical look at the splendor of an era that shone... though not for everyone.

Hay algo en ellas que me resulta fascinante: los personajes, los vestidos, los modales, los conflictos… todo parece sacado de un mundo irreal, pero en el fondo sabes que sí lo fue. Que hubo un momento en la historia en que la humanidad pensaba, amaba y se comportaba de esa manera. La Edad Dorada me atrapó justo por eso: por mostrar con tanto detalle y elegancia una época que no solo fue de lujo y apariencias, sino también de profundas tensiones sociales. Desde el primer capítulo supe que no sería una serie suave ni romántica, sino una mirada crítica al esplendor de una era que brillaba… aunque no para todos.

The Gilded Age transports us to New York in 1882, a time when the glitz of luxury and elegance hid deep social tensions. The series depicts the clash between the families of the “old society” and the “new rich,” the “old money” families who had arrived from Europe years earlier with their inherited fortunes and rigid customs, and the “new money” families who, thanks to industrialization, had made their way into a world that viewed them with suspicion. It is not about who has more money, but who belongs, who manages to be accepted in a society obsessed with appearances.

Although the series generally depicts fictional situations, it is based on a real period in history. From 1870 to 1890, the United States was marked by economic growth, especially the expansion of the railroad (allowing easy movement around the country), and because of this, new tycoons emerged who did not inherit their fortunes, but created them. It was an era that shone on the outside, but had large cracks on the inside.

La Edad Dorada nos transporta a la Nueva York de 1882, una época donde el brillo del lujo y la elegancia escondía profundas tensiones sociales. La serie muestra el enfrentamiento entre las familias de “vieja sociedad” y los "nuevos ricos", ese "old money", presuntamente familias que llegaron desde Europa años atrás, con sus fortunas heredadas y costumbres rígidas, y el "new money", familias que, gracias a la industrialización, se abrieron paso en un mundo que los observaba con recelo. No se trata de quién tiene más dinero, sino de quién pertenece, de quién logra ser aceptado en una sociedad obsesionada con las apariencias.

Puede que, en general, la serie narra situaciones ficticias, pero está basada en una época real. De 1870 a 1890, Estados Unidos estuvo marcado por el crecimiento económico, especialmente por la expansión ferroviaria (permitiendo movilizarse fácilmente por el país), y, debido a esto, surgieron nuevos magnates que no heredaron su fortuna, la crearon. One of the greatest charms of The Gilded Age is undoubtedly its staging. Everything is meticulously crafted: the costumes, the sets, the art direction... everything conveys luxury, money, and glamour, but it also reveals the other side: poverty, inequality, and lack of opportunity. It is a visually stunning series, but not empty; every detail of the setting has a purpose, an intention that reminds you that this splendor only existed for a select few.

Uno de los mayores encantos de La Edad Dorada es, sin duda, su puesta en escena. Todo está cuidado al detalle: los vestuarios, los escenarios, la dirección de arte… todo transmite lujo, dinero y brillo, pero también deja ver la otra cara: la pobreza, la desigualdad y la falta de oportunidades. Es una serie visualmente preciosa, pero no vacía; cada detalle del entorno tiene un propósito, una intención que te recuerda que ese esplendor solo existía para unos pocos.

The characters are a total success. Although fictional, many are inspired by real people from the period, which makes them feel authentic. The Russells became my favorites: not because they are “the good guys” (because no one here is entirely good), but because of the whole context surrounding them.

From what I know about the series in recent years (because I started watching it when the first season premiered, and it's now in its third season), I know that Bertha Russell is inspired by the wife of the Vanderbilt tycoon. She perfectly embodies that female ambition that defies the limits of her time: an intelligent woman, a strategist, and determined to make a place for herself among the families who despise her.

Meanwhile, her husband, George Russell, with his brilliant business mind, impeccable crisis management skills, and unconditional support for his family, adds even more strength to this story of power and true love. On the other hand, I also found it interesting to learn about those traditional families, with their rigid mentality and fear of change; they are a reflection of a society that resists evolution.

Los personajes son un acierto total. Aunque ficticios, muchos están inspirados en personas reales de la época, y eso los hace sentir auténticos. Los Russell se convirtieron en mis favoritos: no porque sean “los buenos” (porque aquí nadie lo es del todo), sino por todo el contexto que los rodea.

De acuerdo a lo que sé de la serie en estos últimos años (porque comencé a verla cuando se estrenó la primera temporada, y ya va por la tercera), sé que Bertha Russell está inspirada en la esposa del magnate Vanderbilt. Ella encarna a la perfección esa ambición femenina que desafía los límites de su tiempo: una mujer inteligente, estratega y decidida a hacerse un lugar entre las familias que la desprecian.

Mientras que su esposo, George Russell, con su mente brillante para los negocios, su manera impecable de desenvolverse durante las crisis y su apoyo incondicional hacia su familia, le da aún más fuerza a esa historia de poder y amor real. Por otro lado, también me resultó interesante conocer a esas familias tradicionales, con su mentalidad rígida y su miedo a los cambios; son el espejo de una sociedad que se resiste a evolucionar.

Beyond luxury, the series tackles deeply human issues: racism that remained latent even after slavery was abolished (a struggle that divided the country into the North, who were against it, and the South, who wanted to keep black people as slaves). It also mentions women's struggle for the vote and economic independence, as well as, obviously, the weight of social expectations on women. It didn't matter if they were rich, middle class, poor, or working class, they were all under a giant microscope, with a society that expected to see them fail if they didn't become excellent wives and mothers.

Más allá del lujo, la serie aborda temas profundamente humanos: el racismo que seguía latente incluso después de abolida la esclavitud (una lucha que dividió el país en Norte, quienes estaban en contra, y Sur, que querían mantener esclavos a los negros). También se menciona la lucha de las mujeres por el voto y por su independencia económica; además de, obviamente, el peso de las expectativas sociales en las mujeres. No importa si eran ricas, clase media, pobres o trabajadoras, todas estaban bajo una lupa gigante, con una sociedad que esperaba verlas caer si no se convertían en excelentes esposas y madres.

I loved how they integrate historical moments that marked a turning point, such as the arrival of electricity or the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, whose real story has a wonderful detail: it was a woman who ended up supervising the work when her husband fell ill, although she never received recognition (what man would admit that such an architectural feat was organized by a woman?). The Gilded Age achieves this: it shows that behind the glitz, there were minds and hands—many of them female—that literally lit up modernity.

Me encantó cómo integran momentos históricos que marcaron un antes y un después, como la llegada de la electricidad o la construcción del Puente de Brooklyn, cuya historia real tiene un detalle maravilloso: fue una mujer quien terminó supervisando la obra cuando su esposo cayó enfermo, aunque nunca recibió el reconocimiento (¿qué hombre iba a reconocer que semejante obra arquitéctonica fue organizada por una mujer?). La Edad Dorada logra eso: mostrar que, detrás del brillo, hubo mentes y manos —muchas de ellas femeninas— que encendieron literalmente la modernidad.

The Gilded Age is not a series to be watched in a hurry. Its narrative is slow and very descriptive; every dialogue, every gesture, and every scene has its weight. There is no single protagonist, but rather a set of intertwining stories, which can be very overwhelming at first—so many names, families, and conflicts. It is a series that demands attention, but also rewards viewers with an in-depth look at the historical context of that era.

The series reflects the ambitions, struggles, and inequalities that, in some ways, still persist today. That obsession with status, the pressure to “fit in,” women's struggle to be heard, the value of work versus inherited privilege... these are themes that transcend the 19th century. And hey, isn't it incredible that a story set more than a hundred years ago still speaks to us about who we are today? It's definitely a series I want to keep watching, because each season promises to continue unearthing those golden—and rusty—roots of modern society.

La Edad Dorada no es una serie para ver con prisa. Su narrativa es lenta, y muy descriptiva; cada diálogo, cada gesto y cada escena tiene su peso. No hay un protagonista único, sino un conjunto de historias que se entrelazan, lo que puede resultar muy abrumador al principio —tantos nombres, familias y conflictos—. Es una serie que exige atención, pero que también recompensa con una mirada profunda al contexto histórico de esa época.

La serie refleja las ambiciones, luchas y desigualdades que, de alguna forma, aún persisten. Esa obsesión por el estatus, la presión por “encajar”, la lucha femenina por ser escuchada, el valor del trabajo frente al privilegio heredado… son temas que trascienden el siglo XIX. Y hey, ¿no es increíble que una historia ambientada hace más de cien años todavía nos hable de lo que somos hoy? Definitivamente, es una serie que quiero seguir viendo, porque cada temporada promete seguir desenterrando esas raíces doradas —y oxidadas— de la sociedad moderna.

Movies about pets are the best kind of movies there are. Many have been released and have become hits, since practically everyone can identify with having a pet at home that becomes another member of the family, and one would give anything for them. That's why the few films that have been released in this genre are worth watching, and why a highly experienced director has recreated a very simple but meaningful film that takes us to Brazil so we can enjoy the great connection that can exist between a dog and a person, motivating us to love them even more and allowing them to be part of many things in life.

The film is known as Caramelo, released this year, and it is undoubtedly one of those productions that are very well made, without too much exaggeration or production, simply narrating the life of that pet and allowing the whole film to become fun and sentimental. This time, we get to enjoy the life of a chef who receives a health diagnosis that is not good at all and whose life can change in seconds because of it. But everything changes with the arrival of a four-legged animal, in this case a dog, which turns his life around in the most motivating way possible. A friendship develops that could be very significant, and this is where we ask ourselves: Will he be able to take care of the dog? Will they both be happy together?

Las películas que están relacionadas con mascota son lo mejor que pueden existir, la cual han sacado muchas y se han convertido en un éxito, ya que prácticamente todo el mundo se puede sentir identificado por el mismo hecho de tener una mascota en su casa que se vuelve un miembro más de la familia y uno dará todo por ellos. Por eso las pocas películas que se han estrenado de este estilo valen la pena verla y por eso un director con una gran experiencia recrea una película muy sencilla, pero significativa que nos traslada a Brasil para así poder disfrutar de la gran conexión que puede existir entre un perro y una persona, siendo algo que motiva a quererlos muchos más y ellos pueden ser parte de muchas cosas en la vida.

La película es conocida como Caramelo estrenada este año y sin duda es una de esas producciones que están muy bien elaboras, sin tanta exageración, producción y solo narrando la vida de esa mascota y permite que toda la película se vuelva divertida y sentimental, por eso esta vez nos toca disfrutar de la vida de un chef que recibe un diagnóstico de salud que no es nada buena y su vida puede cambiar de segundos por eso, pero todo cambia con la llegada de un animal de cuatro patas que en este caso es un perro para así poder darle un giro a su vida que será lo más motivador y como se crea una relación de amistad que puede ser muy grande y es aquí donde nos preguntamos ¿Podrá cuidar al perro?, ¿Ambos serán felices estando juntos?

But when it comes to health, things change, and that's where there's nothing you can do but except to move forward with a great attitude that everything will turn out well. Another thing that adds value is the inclusion of a street dog, which, even though it is a living being, deserves to be well cared for. This is something that is very noticeable today and is not given much importance, which is why it is the perfect connection that is created between the two, and their lives take an incredible turn where happiness, affection, and the desire to continue enjoying life are noticeable, while at the same time learning from the process.

La película nos sumerge en las calles de brasil donde todo está desarrollado de una manera muy buena, sencilla y sobre todo como este gran personaje que se tiene que ganar la vida y por eso su trabajo es ser chef, la cual muestra también una parte de la gastronomía y como tiene que dar lo mejor para así poder permanecer allí, pero cuando se trata de salud las cosas cambian y es aquí donde no se puede hacer nada, solo seguir adelante con una gran aptitud de que todo saldrá bien. Otra de las cosas que le aporta valor es colocar un perro de la calle que por más que sea es un ser vivo y merece ser bien cuidado y es algo que hoy en día se nota mucho y no el dan importancia, por eso es la conexión perfecta que sea crea entren los dos y sus vidas dan un giro increíble donde la felicidad, el cariño y las ganas de seguir disfrutando de la vida se nota y a la vez ir aprendiendo del proceso.

The scenes throughout the film are full of color, emotion, and how life for both of them changes in an incredible way, all because of the love they have for each other, ensuring that the dog is always well and that they can both enjoy themselves and feel good. The actor in this film plays a major role, which adds a touch of sadness and happiness to the entire production due to the fact that with each piece of news they receive, he has to fight until the end, and the only motivation he has is that great dog, who arrived at just the right moment to give this great chef a boost in life. It is also a very beautiful breed of dog, and as the film mentions, there are many of these breeds on the streets, which also serves as a call to action.

Las escenas de toda la película están cargadas de muchos colores, emoción y cómo la vida para ambos va cambiando de una manera increíble y todo sea por el cariño que se tiene, conseguir que el perro siempre esté bien y ambos podrán disfrutar y sentirse bien. El actor de esta película toma un gran papel, la cual le da un toque de tristeza y a la vez felicidad a toda la producción por el mismo hecho de cada una de más noticias que van recibiendo y le toca batallar hasta el final y la única motivación que tiene ese gran perro que llegó el momento indicado para así poder darle un empujón a la vida de este gran chef, además una raza de perro que es muy bonita y por lo que menciona la película existen muchas de esas razas que están en las calles y también sirve como un llamado a la acción.

Furthermore, the presence of a pet can change everything, which is why once you have one, you must take care of it, love it, and not abandon it, as they become another member of the family. That's why a film like Caramelo is worth everyone seeing and going far, as they managed to put together the right formula to make it a high-quality film in its genre. So don't miss this opportunity. In my case, I give it a rating of 10/10.

Una película que tiene un gran final, donde las emociones de tristeza, dolor, felicidad juegan un gran papel, ya que siempre están allí en la vida de las personas y cada uno sabes cómo las puede enfrentar y de esa manera poder seguir, además la presencia de una mascota puede llegar a cambiar todo y por eso desde el uno que le tienes debes cuidarla, quererla y no abandonarla, ya que ellos se convierten en un miembro más de la familia, por eso una película como Caramelo vale la pena que todo el mundo la vea y que llegues muy lejos, ya que lograron armar la fórmula correcta para que así sea de buena calidad en ese género que se encuentra, por eso no dejes pasar esta oportunidad y en mi caso le doy una valoración de 10/10.

Ever since I heard about this movie, I wanted to see it, but the truth is that horror movies scare me 🤭, so I never watch them when I’m alone. I had to wait until my husband was home, just like we did with all the Conjuring and The Nun movies. Even though they scare me, I’ve seen them all. In that sense, I’m quite masochistic, but when it comes to horror, I prefer those related to paranormal activities to those about a cold-blooded killer. Anyway, the important thing is that yesterday, Sunday, I finally got to see The Conjuring 4, and despite all the information on the Internet, I tried to avoid spoilers.

I’ll start by saying that it didn’t scare me as much as the previous ones. For me, the first film left an indelible mark; I still see images from it popping into my head. In the case of this film, I think it spends a lot of time explaining the context and, unlike the previous ones, tells us more about Ed and Lorraine’s life in their early days as a family, helping others get rid of the entities that inhabited their homes. In the previous films, all we knew was that they had a daughter (Judy) who was never mentioned in the same way as her mother, but here we see that the girl was born under certain conditions and that, having inherited her mother’s ability to see beings who are no longer on this earthly plane, Lorraine seeks a way for her daughter to grow up as a normal girl, until her past catches up with her in what would be the final rite.

Ed and Lorraine retired in 1986 and do not want to take on any more cases because Ed has a heart condition and has suffered a heart attack, but this case is closely related to them and mainly to their daughter Judy, who, along with her boyfriend, will join the Warren team for the first time to help a family in Pennsylvania.

Ed y Lorraine se retiraron en 1986 y no quieren aceptar más casos porque Ed tiene un problema cardíaco y ha sufrido un infarto, pero este caso está muy relacionado con ellos y principalmente con su hija Judy, quien, junto con su novio, se unirá al equipo Warren por primera vez para ayudar a una familia en Pensilvania.

The film focused on Judy, her visions and encounters with the demon, as well as her relationship with her boyfriend Tony. Watching this film was more like saying goodbye to Ed and Lorraine and, at the same time, welcoming Judy and Tony, who would come to do the work they do. That’s the impression the whole plot gives, as we see Ed teaching Tony everything about the room where they keep objects that are possessed or were used in some kind of ritual, and Lorraine doing her thing with Judy. We know that the story told here is the last one recorded by the Warrens, and we don’t know for sure if their daughter continued the work, but this film gives us a lot to think about, even though the ending is like that of a novel, with a wedding and guests we’ve already seen in previous films.

As for the horror part, it is revealed throughout the film in the form of suspense, showing a hand, a face, and very subtle things, until it reaches its climax, which is when the ghosts appear. This time there is more than one, and they are quite ugly and aggressive. They are a little scary, and the situation becomes distressing. In that sense, the film is not far behind the previous ones, and it is very gratifying to see the protagonists doing what they know how to do and what we have seen them do in all the previous films: they are an excellent team that transcends the screen.

En cuanto a la parte de terror, se va revelando a lo largo de la película en forma de suspense, mostrando una mano, una cara y cosas muy sutiles, hasta llegar a su clímax, que es cuando aparecen los fantasmas. Esta vez hay más de uno, y son bastante feos y agresivos. Dan un poco de miedo, y la situación se vuelve angustiosa. En ese sentido, la película no se queda atrás respecto a las anteriores, y es muy gratificante ver a los protagonistas haciendo lo que saben hacer y lo que les hemos visto hacer en todas las películas anteriores: son un equipo excelente que trasciende la pantalla.

This movie was one of those on my list titled in my mind library as ‘saved for later.’ Somehow, the later seemed like it wasn’t forthcoming and I felt the need to declutter my to-watch list. I had too many films I knew I wasn’t going to watch saved. At some point, during the deletion process, I got bored and decided that instead of deleting blindly without really knowing what each one entails, I was going to watch their first ten minutes but in 3x mode. If I’m impressed with what I see, I’d let it stay. That was exactly how I ended up watching this entire movie. I liked it for coming with enough chaos, somehow saving me from the boredom that comes with Monday.

Kate Beckinsale plays Avery Graves, a top-tier CIA agent whose life goes downhill in one phone call. Her husband is kidnapped but his ransom, is a file named Canary Black which Avery must get, forcing her to go rogue as she plays both sides of the line to survive and to save him.

I am one to fall for a plot with a female protagonist who is not only armored with wit but fighting skills and swiftness. One thing that sold me here was that they didn’t make her look lucky, she looks well trained. She’s precise, strategic and calm even when everything’s on fire. One second she’s defusing a bomb, the next she’s flipping a guy almost twice her size. Her intelligence shows in every move, no wasted shots, no dumb decisions, just straight-up control.

Also, the stunts, Whew. The chase scenes are intense, car crashes, rooftop runs, and some wild hand-to-hand combat that had me gritting my teeth. You can tell they actually put work into the choreography because nothing feels fake or overdone. The camera work keeps up with the action without being chaotic, and Beckinsale sells every hit like she’s been training her whole life for this.

But the best part? The betrayal. That twist of betrayal hits hard. Watching Avery realize the people she trusted the most were playing her was painful. I didn’t really feel the pain anyway but I felt disappointment.

That said, there’s a little bit of flaw like a few characters barely getting enough time to matter. Character like David, Avery’s husband and her sister. But honestly, Beckinsale carries this film on her shoulders and makes it look good while doing it. The balance of brains, brawls and betrayal keeps it interesting till the last minute. By the end, I was rooting for Avery like she was my cousin or something.

I saw IMDbs rating and I was like, are these guys serious at all? Sighs.

Anyway, if you’re into high-stakes spy thrillers with badass female leads, sharp twists, and some seriously good action choreography, this should be your next fix.
