Impossible Planet opens with an astonishing vista of a purple super nova, and extends what would be a normal visit to a place like an aquarium or museum to the cosmos. Only, the capitalism of the historical institute is progressed to a natural conclusion. Nothing is sacred. Everywhere can be a tourist attraction, for the right price. This is a story that shows a distant future of space tourism.

A time in the future where the universe is no longer a mystery and has been entirely chartered by humanity. Where space travel is an absolute commodity. As the story of Impossible Planet opens, it is a Friday afternoon, and two men are eager to knock off from their week of enhancing and exploiting the tourist experience, when there's a knock at their kiosk door.

It is an old woman who wants to go Earth. A place that hasn't been inhabited for hundreds of years, and is now very out the way. She offers a princely sum - what amounts to five years wages for each of the men, for the pleasure of seeing the planet - and off they go - the woman, the two men, and the woman's robot companion.

But not everything, and not everyone are what they seem on the surface. What follows is a suspenseful story with a "Who knows what they know and who doesn't know what they do know" full of gentle intrigue and the associated high stakes risk of discovery.

Impossible Planet is a story about how truth may just be more than what we simply observe, and how what we are told by others may just form enough truth. At least, for a fleeting moment in our existence. Who am I to question the zoo keeper who tells me of the behavioural patterns of the animals they steward? Or to use another example - if I know nothing about the way a car works - should I trust the mechanic's "truth", or seek to validate?

Or, on the case of this particular story - if someone tells me that my dream is within reach, and it is something that is possible, even though I may harbour suspicions or concerns of my own, could I not just close my own eyes and believe? If a lie makes you feel good, is it better than the truth?

This story is probably not intended to be a psychological horror, but it very can be interpreted as such - the horrors of ageing (where people lose their senses, but not their minds - a role in which the woman's robot companion acts as a kind of guardian) has strong lessons. That we should respect those who have come before, but if we are to cross the boundary from ambition to exploitation, or dream to nightmare - then we should definitely approach the fundamental truths of our place, and our responsibility to it - with integrity, not with a lie that makes someone else feel good.

But drama and lies do make the best stories, and this is easily one of them. Well produced, well acted, and incredibly detailed sets. I very much enjoyed Impossible Planet.

Content saturation is one of the problems that television series creators in the Golden Age of television had to confront. It appears this phenomenon will first manifest in the crime genre, which, as one of the oldest, has accumulated far more specific characters, motifs, and plotlines than any other genre. For its creators, it is increasingly difficult to devise something original, so it is perhaps unsurprising that many contemporary crime series are remakes of shows previously produced for relatively limited markets. In such circumstances, it is no surprise that, in seeking to craft something original—or at least sufficiently distinct to capture the attention of a jaded audience—screenwriters are increasingly turning to the past, calculating that stories and plots deemed banal today may appear strikingly different when viewed through the lens of long-gone decades and centuries. At first glance, The Alienist, a ten-part crime miniseries produced by American network TNT, seems to embody such an attempt.

The series is based on Caleb Carr’s eponymous and award-winning 1994 novel. The unusual title refers to a 19th-century English term for a psychiatrist, the era in which the narrative is set. The setting is New York in 1896, which, even at that time—before the United States had established itself as the leading global power—appeared as an impressive metropolis. Its grand structures, including the recently erected Statue of Liberty, drew millions of immigrants from across the world, eager to seize a fragment of the American Dream. For most, however, that dream had morphed into a nightmare of overcrowded tenements and increasingly perilous streets. Among the few genuinely striving to alter this reality is the young, energetic, and idealistic politician Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Geraghty), recently appointed head of the New York Police Department. His commitment to progressive ideas is evident not only in installing telephones in police stations but also in the then-unthinkable employment of women as officers, including the young Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) as his official secretary. When New York confronts an unimaginably depraved and brutal serial killer targeting boys engaged in male prostitution, Roosevelt is compelled to seek assistance beyond his department. Fortunately, among his university acquaintances are John Moore (Luke Evans), an illustrator for The New York Times, and Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), a renowned psychiatrist convinced the perpetrator can be apprehended by deciphering the true motive behind the crimes. Roosevelt agrees to let the pair, with Sarah as intermediary, conduct a discreet investigation, assigning them two young Jewish detectives enthusiastic about pioneering forensic techniques such as fingerprinting. This team must not only uncover and stop the killer but also contend with sabotage and pressure from corrupt officers hostile to Roosevelt, as well as influential elites and religious figures fearing the investigation might expose uncomfortable truths about New York’s upper class.

The central plot device—the hunt for a twisted and evidently embittered murderer—has been so overused that executive producer Cary Joji Fukunaga, who gained fame years earlier with HBO’s thematically similar True Detective, clearly recognised the issue. Consequently, minimal emphasis is placed on this aspect of the script; the investigation proceeds relatively routinely, and viewers are not particularly invested in the culprit’s identity. When the perpetrator is finally revealed as a pathetic loser incapable of holding a candle to figures like Norman Bates or Hannibal Lecter, most viewers will scarcely feel let down. What the crime plot truly offers the audience is an excuse to explore the fascinating late-19th-century world, simultaneously alien to us yet disturbingly familiar in certain details. This primarily concerns the portrayal of urban industrial civilisation, which had achieved marvels previously unimaginable—such as the telephone and electricity—yet these remained accessible only to an infinitesimally small elite, while everyone else grappled with unbearable poverty, pollution, disease, and crime. The victims of this crime were far from the sight and hearts of duty-bound caretakers, who barely concealed their utter contempt for these masses. The Alienist further incorporates religious, ethnic, racial, sexual, and other prejudices but, unlike many similar Hollywood productions, avoids devolving into cheap “politically correct” agitprop or triumphalist celebrations of progress over the past twelve decades. On the contrary, The Alienist emphasises the parallels between 1890s New York and the modern world, particularly in how both eras regarded the city as the most progressive and “cool” place on Earth, yet each harboured an indescribably dark underbelly. Much like its literary source, the series skilfully blends fictional and historical figures to create a vivid tableau that holds viewers’ attention even when presenting repulsive or unsettling content.

What works best in The Alienist are the protagonists, each written as exceptionally complex yet captivating characters battling personal traumas or societal prejudices in their own way. John Moore, the closest to the traditional macho hero and portrayed superbly by British gay actor Luke Evans—often relegated to thankless roles—must grapple behind the facade of an elite dandy with the consequences of a failed romance. Kreizler, played by the prolific German actor Daniel Brühl, conceals beneath the mask of a progressive scientist the insecurity stemming from an unhappy childhood and the prejudices he endured as a Catholic in predominantly Protestant America. Sara Howard faces similar struggles, constantly subjected to sexist belittlement; Dakota Fanning excellently conveys her frustrations and determination to overcome them in one of the most memorable roles of her career.

Nevertheless, The Alienist is far from flawless. As a predominantly American series (though filmed in Budapest studios), it demands an unusually thorough knowledge of American history from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, particularly Roosevelt’s career. In reality, Roosevelt was an exceptionally vibrant figure, yet Geraghty’s portrayal renders him utterly uncharismatic and difficult to envision as the future president and architect of modern American imperialism. Additionally, the somewhat irritating need to stretch the narrative across ten episodes disrupts pacing, wasting time on superfluous subplots, such as those involving Kreizler’s maid Mary (Q’orianka Kilcher), whose performance occasionally veers into hamminess. Despite these and other shortcomings, The Alienist emerges as a refreshingly high-quality variation on themes that have otherwise grown rather worn-out. In 2020 a sequel under title The Alienist: Angel of Darkness was released as eight-part miniseries.

Es sobre una mujer negra al inicio del siglo XX, esta mujer tenía un grave problema de alopecia que afectaba seriamente su confianza y su autoestima, para colmo su marido la golpeaba y le decía palabras muy humillantes que le impedían avanzar, pero justo en el momento más indicado alguien tocó su puerta, se trataba de una vendedora precisamente de productos capilares, la cuál la ayudó mucho, ofreciéndole un producto que la ayudaría a combatir la alopecia. Las dos mujeres llegaron a un acuerdo en el cuál Sarah (la protagonista) trabajaría lavando ropa para la vendedora del producto capilar a cambio de ese tratamiento, lo cuál funcionó porque en poco tiempo Sarah empezó a lucir una cabellera abundante y hermosa que la ayudó a recuperar la confianza, pero cuando quiso asociarse con la dueña del producto para venderlos, usando su imagen como prueba de que efectivamente funcionaban, esa mujer la despreció y le dijo que una lavandera no tenía el perfil para vender su producto , así que Sarah trabajó duro para desarrollar su propio producto, y no solo tuvo éxito en ventas, sino que con los años llegó a tener una fábrica que dio empleó a muchas personas en una época difícil de segregación racial y dificultades para las personas negras.

En materia de cinematografía la serie tiene buenos planos y excelentes recursos visuales que ayudan a tener una experiencia más inmersiva en la audiencia, sobre todo cuando Sarah tiene esas “visiones” que le ayudan a contextualizar en su mente las expectativas que tiene con respeto a su empresa, cada producto nuevo, cada nueva propuesta que promete un avance, eso me encantó, me pareció muy acertado.

Lo único que siento que tengo que criticar es el soundtrack, no es que no me gusten las canciones pero pienso que no van acorde a la época que están representando, pero algunas canciones si van acorde, en especial las de jazz, que además también representan un avance y la resistencia de la raza negra en estados unidos en una época en que los negros y los blancos se veían entre sí como si fuesen de una especie diferente.

A group of young men voluntarily take part in a walking contest with prize money, glory, and one wish. With no real finish line, they will walk for as long as they can endure, until only one remains. The catch? Whoever stops… loses their life.

I haven’t read the book, so I don’t know how faithful it is to the original material. But from articles I’ve read, it’s said to be one of the most faithful adaptations. So I’ll judge it with a clear mind, without the book’s influence.

The America in which the story takes place is one of famine and hardship. After a devastating civil war, a harsh dictatorship remains, forcing its youth into this twisted march to showcase the greatness of the nation’s men. “Make America great again,” said the Major… How ironic, right? Especially when you think about when it was written.

Through this ordeal, all of our characters will be tested mentally and morally; those who make it far will be changed. With death looming at every step—whether from a simple misstep or total collapse—as the miles pass, they struggle to keep their humanity and stay alive.

Here, Stephen King gives us a multi-layered work with many facets and interpretations. Issues such as solidarity, empathy, self-sacrifice, friendship, and brotherhood evolve and unfold literally step by step among the protagonists. Themes like the immorality of governments that tyrannize their citizens under the mask of democracy and the common good are embodied in the Major. Themes like cannibalism and the exploitation of fellow humans—suffering live before our eyes while we sit apathetically watching—are also present. Yet it also has an allegorical meaning: the long journey from life’s beginning to its end. A road full of difficulties we must leave behind as we move forward, with persistence, determination, and strength, alongside those who love us—even if they are not family. People who may simply cross our path in life and prove lifesaving. The true prize at the end of the road isn’t money or glory, but the happiness you gained while living.

The director did an outstanding job in every aspect. Not only in camera use, not only in the raw violence that maintained realism, but also in the incredible pacing that kept you on edge the whole time. Every step, every meter of this road is deadly, and the director wanted you to feel it in your skin. He succeeded, keeping us glued to the screen until the end.

As for the script, like I said, I haven’t read the book. But if we take it purely as a work crafted for the big screen, it was done very well, and you can see it in everything it leaves behind. How a simple story can offer so, so much if it’s well-written. The characters too were well-written and had depth. With incredible skill, the film makes you care about a guy who literally appeared for 10 minutes. They were given space and time to develop alongside the protagonists. That’s how well it was done.

As for performances, there’s not much more to say (Mark Hamill—what can you even add? You love to hate him, he plays it that well). Everyone was excellent, even the secondary characters. But I have to highlight David Jonsson as Peter McVries. Simply stunning, utterly captivating. The moment the camera landed on him, the scene was his. Just like that. He was the face of humanity in this film.

If you let the movie pull you in, it’s not for the faint of heart. Not so much because of the violence, but because of the issues it tackles—and kudos to everyone involved for that. The truly frightening part is how real all of this feels today…

Elementary, Dear Data (S02E03)

It is frequently asserted, and not without merit, that Star Trek: The Next Generation’s inaugural season suffered from teething troubles – a certain narrative tentativeness, underdeveloped character dynamics, and production values still finding their footing in the shadow of the Original Series. Yet, to dismiss Season One as merely a necessary evil overlooks its crucial function as the indispensable bedrock upon which the series’ enduring legacy was constructed. This fledgling season served a vital purpose: it established the core dynamics, technological conceits, and thematic playgrounds that the writing staff would subsequently refine and elevate with remarkable alacrity. The proof of this foundational value manifested astonishingly quickly; by the dawn of Season Two, the creative team was already adeptly revisiting and radically reimagining concepts introduced months earlier. Few episodes demonstrate this rapid, sophisticated evolution more compellingly than the superbly crafted Elementary, Dear Data, an episode that transforms a seemingly frivolous Season One trope into a profound meditation on consciousness and the very essence of life.

The narrative commences with the Enterprise-D en route to a routine rendezvous with the USS Victory, a journey estimated to take three days. Seeking diversion, Geordi La Forge invites Data to join him in the holodeck for a Sherlock Holmes simulation. Geordi, naturally, assumes the role of Watson, whilst Data – whose fascination with the Victorian detective was first noted in Season One’s Lonely Among Us – eagerly steps into Holmes’ deerstalker. Yet, this adventure proves fleeting; Data, having meticulously memorised every canonical Holmes story, solves the programmed mystery with dispassionate, near-instantaneous efficiency, rendering the experience utterly devoid of challenge or suspense. This frustration leads Geordi to discuss the matter with Data in Ten-Forward, a conversation overheard by the newly arrived Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Katherine Pulaski. With characteristic bluntness, Pulaski posits that Data’s fundamental limitation lies in his inability to grasp the ineffable complexities of the "human soul." Intrigued and determined to test this hypothesis, Geordi instructs the computer to generate an opponent capable of genuinely outwitting Data – an original adversary unconstrained by pre-existing literary plots. He subsequently invites Pulaski to join him for a new Holmesian adventure, confident in the computer’s ability to rise to the challenge.

This second foray into Victorian London, however, spirals catastrophically out of control. The computer, interpreting Geordi’s instruction with terrifying literalism, creates not merely a clever villain, but the holographic manifestation of Professor James Moriarty (played by Daniel Davis). This Moriarty proves far more than a worthy intellectual adversary; he is a being of extraordinary, almost frightening, intelligence who rapidly achieves self-awareness. Crucially, he comprehends his own artificial nature – recognising himself as a holographic construct – and, leveraging this awareness, begins accessing the Enterprise’s vast databases to learn about the "real" world beyond the holodeck’s confines. His ambition swiftly crystallises: escape. To achieve this, he takes Dr. Pulaski hostage, using her as leverage to demand the crew facilitate his transfer into the physical realm.

Faced with this unprecedented crisis, Data and Geordi urgently brief Captain Picard. Standard protocols prove useless; attempts to terminate the holodeck program or isolate Moriarty’s subroutine fail, as the sentient hologram anticipates and counters every move. With Pulaski’s life hanging in the balance, Picard elects against brute force, instead choosing the path of diplomacy that defines Star Trek’s highest ideals. He enters the holodeck, confronting Moriarty not as an enemy to be vanquished, but as a sentient being to be reasoned with. Moriarty, articulating his desire with chilling eloquence, declares himself a "new man," a "civilised" entity deserving of existence beyond the confines of light and force fields. Picard, with characteristic calm and intellect, acknowledges Moriarty’s sentience but delivers the painful truth: as a hologram, he cannot physically exist outside the holodeck. Picard offers the only viable alternative – the preservation of Moriarty’s program in stasis, with the promise of reactivation should future technology ever enable his transfer. Recognising the Captain’s sincerity and the bleak alternative, Moriarty, in a moment of tragic nobility, releases Pulaski. The program is then safely terminated, leaving behind profound questions rather than a simple victory.

Written by Brian A. Lane (a pen name for the writing team of Briana Lane), Elementary, Dear Data brilliantly repurposes concepts seeded in Season One. It directly builds upon Data’s established Holmes obsession from Lonely Among Us, but its most significant debt is to The Big Goodbye, the Season One episode that established the "holodeck malfunction" trope. Where "The Big Goodbye" presented a relatively straightforward technical glitch causing chaos, "Elementary, Dear Data" seizes that premise and elevates it exponentially. It utilises the holodeck not merely as a source of peril, but as the perfect philosophical crucible to explore the nascent, terrifying possibility of artificial sentience – a theme only hinted at in its predecessor. The episode delves deep into the chasm separating sophisticated programming from true consciousness, questioning what fundamentally distinguishes a self-aware, desiring hologram from a biological being.

The episode’s triumph hinges overwhelmingly on the character of Moriarty himself. While inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s arch-villain, this holographic iteration transcends his literary origins. He evolves rapidly from a programmed antagonist into a figure of profound pathos – genuinely curious, intellectually voracious, and tragically determined to transcend the inherent limitations of his existence. This transformation is rendered utterly compelling by Daniel Davis’s masterful performance. Davis imbues Moriarty with aristocratic menace, razor-sharp intellect, and, crucially, a palpable sense of yearning that makes his ultimate fate deeply moving. It is no exaggeration to state that Davis’s portrayal instantly cemented Moriarty as one of TNG’s most iconic and memorable adversaries, a status confirmed by his return in the Season Six sequel, Ship in a Bottle. Equally impressive is Brent Spiner, who relishes the opportunity to layer Data’s meticulous Holmes impersonation with subtle android tells – the precise gestures, the slightly off-kilter delivery – showcasing his exceptional range within the confines of the character.

Even the divisive Dr. Pulaski finds purpose here. While her abrasive personality often grated on fans following her Season Two introduction, Diana Muldaur excels within the episode’s specific context. Her intellectual sparring with Data and Geordi provides the crucial catalyst for the plot, and her Victorian-era costume design renders her visually striking, adding to the episode’s atmospheric richness. Furthermore, director Rob Bowman deserves immense credit. Utilising the increased Season Two budget, he crafts a remarkably convincing and immersive Victorian London setting. His judicious use of Dutch masterfully conveys the unsettling inversion of reality and the growing threat, enhancing the tension without resorting to cheap spectacle.

Ultimately, the episode’s most profound and valuable segment is its resolution. In an era often reliant on phaser fights or technobabble escapes, Picard’s victory is achieved solely through dialogue, empathy, and intellectual persuasion. He appeals directly to Moriarty’s own formidable intellect and sense of self, acknowledging his sentience while presenting an honest, albeit heartbreaking, truth. This commitment to peaceful resolution, rooted in understanding rather than force, elevates Elementary, Dear Data far above the status of a mere "holodeck gone wrong" thriller. It stands as one of The Next Generation’s most quintessentially Star Trek episodes – a sophisticated, character-driven exploration of consciousness, ethics, and the promise of reason, proving definitively how swiftly the series evolved from its tentative beginnings into a vessel capable of carrying the franchise’s most profound ideas.

The Map That Leads to You is one of those movies you watch when you just want to sit down and let yourself go without thinking much about anything complicated or deep, in the story the main character named Heather is fresh out of college and goes on a trip to Europe with her two best friends before starting her finance job in New York, it's that trip many people take after graduation to live a little before entering the serious and boring adult life of offices and responsibilities. During the trip she meets Jack a really laid-back and adventurous guy who lives without plans and without worries following an old diary from his grandfather all over Europe, and well obviously they fall in love and here comes the whole romance outbreak. What I liked most about this movie is how beautiful it looks, every scene is full of warm colors and European landscapes that make you want to grab your backpack and go explore Spain and Portugal without thinking twice, it's truly beautiful with those yellow and blue tones that give a very artistic and relaxed touch to everything, the drone shots are spectacular everything looks so real, I felt like I was watching one of my friends' trip. The actors do a good job, I liked KJ Apa's performance because he gives Jack that mysterious guy vibe and you understand why Heather falls in love so fast I would've fallen in love too hehehe, Maline Klein is also good as Heather although I feel she's a bit flatter compared to Jack but it still works for the story. The chemistry between them is real and natural it doesn't look forced like in other romantic movies where the actors look like they can't stand each other off camera.

The Map That Leads to You es una de esas películas que ves cuando solo quieres sentarte y dejarte llevar sin pensar mucho en nada complicado o profundo, en la historia la protagonista que se llama Heather está recién graduada de la universidad y se va de viaje a Europa con sus dos mejores amigas antes de empezar su trabajo en finanzas en Nueva York, es ese viaje que muchos hacen después de graduarse para vivir un poco antes de entrar a la vida adulta seria y aburrida de oficinas y responsabilidades. Durante el viaje conoce a Jack un tipo bien relajado y aventurero que vive sin planes y sin preocupaciones siguiendo un diario viejo de su abuelo por toda Europa, y pues obvio se enamoran y aquí viene todo el brote de romance. Lo que más me gustó de esta pelicula es lo bonita que se ve, cada escena está llena de colores cálidos y paisajes europeos que te dan ganas de agarrar tu mochila e irte a recorrer España y Portugal sin pensarlo dos veces, es de verdad hermoso con esos tonos amarillos y azules que le dan un toque muy artístico y relajado a todo, las tomas con drones son espectaculares tpdo se ve muy real, sentí que estaba viend el viaje de una de mis amigas. Los actores hacen un buen trabajo, me gustó la actuación de KJ Apa porque le da a Jack un aire así de tipo misterioso y uno entiende porque Heather se enamora tan rápido yo también me hubiese enamorado jejeje, Maline Klein también está bien como Heather aunque siento que es un poco más plana comparado con Jack pero igual funciona para la historia. La química entre ellos es real y natural no se ve forzada como en otras películas románticas donde los actores parece que ni se soportan fuera de cámara.

Now when it comes to the story it's pretty predictable if you've already seen movies like The Fault in Our Stars or Me Before You which by the way I love and I've watched it like three times. From the beginning you know something bad is going to happen because Jack has that vibe of a character who's hiding something big and dark and there are clues everywhere that he's sick, he keeps coughing and grabbing his chest in several scenes and talks a lot about death and living in the moment in a way that sounds almost philosophical for a guy his age, so when it's revealed that he has cancer or leukemia or whatever it's not really a surprise for anyone who's seen this type of movie before. What I didn't like is that they never really say what he has or how much time he has left, that's left in the air and it gave me the impression that the writers didn't want to commit to the details. The part where Jack abandons Heather at the airport is very rough because the guy goes to the bathroom and never comes back leaving her alone on the plane without any explanation, I thought it was very cruel regardless of his reasons and even though later you understand he did it to protect her from watching him die it's still something selfish that I don't know if it's justified. The ending is kind of open and doesn't tell you what happens after Heather finds him in Spain, you don't know if she stays with him while he dies or if she goes back to her life in New York, it just ends there and leaves you with more questions than answers.

Ahora bien en cuanto a la historia es bastante predecible si ya has visto películas como The Fault in Our Stars o Me Before You que por cierto me encanta y la he visto como tres veces. Desde el principio sabes que algo malo va a pasar porque Jack tiene esa vibra de personaje que está escondiendo algo grande y oscuro y hay pistas por todos lados de que está enfermo, se la pasa tosiendo y agarrándose el pecho en varias escenas y habla mucho sobre la muerte y vivir el momento de una forma que suena casi que filosófica para un tipo de su edad, entonces cuando se revela que tiene cáncer o leucemia o lo que sea no es realmente una sorpresa para nadie que haya visto este tipo de pelis antes. Lo que no me gustó es que nunca dicen bien que es lo que tiene ni cuanto tiempo le queda, eso queda como en el aire y a mí me dio la impresión de que los escritores no quisieron comprometerse con los detalles. La parte donde Jack abandona a Heather en el aeropuerto es muy fuerte porque el tipo se va al baño y nunca regresa dejándola sola en el avión sin ninguna explicación, me pareció muy cruel sin importar las razones que tenga y aunque después entiendes que lo hizo para protegerla de verlo morir igual es algo egoísta que no se si se justifica. El final es medio abierto y no te dice que pasa después de que Heather lo encuentra en España, no sabes si ella se queda con el mientras muere o si regresa a su vida en Nueva York, simplemente termina ahí y te deja con más preguntas que respuestas.

What I can salvage from The Map That Leads to You is that it doesn't fall into the typical and forced dramas that many romantic movies use to create conflict, there are no stupid love triangles or fights between the friends or anything like that and that's good because one is already saturated with those things. When Heather's friends separate from the group each one follows her own path and when Heather calls them they always support her and are good friends without unnecessary drama, for me that's a true friendship since life has enough drama to go around making up ridiculous things just to fill screen time. The friendship between the girls felt real to me, Sophia Wyle does an excellent job as Connie the extroverted and fun friend who's always looking for adventure and Madison Thompson is Amy the calmer and more practical friend, in groups of three there's always that balance. The movie's pace is good, it runs like an hour and a half which is perfect because it's not too long or too short, it goes straight to the point without unnecessary filler and that's something that gives it extra points. For me the travel scenes are the best parts of the movie, watching them go through Barcelona, Pamplona, Porto and other European places is beautiful and makes you want to live that experience, my favorite scene is one on the cable car in Barcelona during sunset that looks spectacular and might be one of the most romantic scenes I've seen in a long time.

Cuando las amigas de Heather se separan del grupo cada una sigue su propio camino y cuando Heather las llama siempre la apoyan y son buenas amigas sin dramas innecesarios, para mí esa es una verdadera amistad ya la vida tiene suficiente drama para andar inventando cosas ridículas solo para llenar tiempo de pantalla. La amistad entre las chicas me pareció real, Sophia Wyle hace un trabajo excelente como Connie la amiga extrovertida y divertida que siempre está buscando aventura y Madison Thompson es Amy la amiga más tranquila y práctica, en los grupos de tres siempre hay ese equilibrio. El ritmo de la película es bueno, dura como hora y media lo cual es perfecto porque no es muy larga ni muy corta, va directo al punto sin relleno innecesario y eso eso es algo qye hace que tenga puntos extra. Para mí las escenas de viaje son las mejores partes de la película, verlos recorrer Barcelona, Pamplona, Porto y otros lugares europeos es hermoso y te hace querer vivir esa experiencia, mi escena favorita es una en el teleférico en Barcelona durante el atardecer que se ve espectacular y puede que sea una de las escenas más románticas que he visto en mucho tiempo.

The movie's central theme about following your heart versus following the plan you already have laid out is something many people can identify with especially young people who are in that transition stage between college and adult life. Heather represents all those people who are afraid to get off the safe and predictable path because they don't know what's on the other side, and Jack represents that part of us that wants to say screw it all and just live without worrying about the future. It's a nice message although not original, but they show it in an honest way without being too preachy. Jack's grandfather's diary is something interesting that gives depth to his character and makes his journey have a meaning beyond just sightseeing around Europe, he's trying to connect with his grandfather and understand the life of a past generation while going through his illness. That gives emotional weight to the story and makes Jack more than just the typical heartthrob, of course I thought the movie could've shown more of that part of the relationship between Jack and his grandfather because it's interesting but it stays a bit in the background compared to the romance.

El diario del abuelo de Jack es algo interesante que le da profundidad a su personaje y hace que su viaje tenga un significado más allá de solo andar turisteando por Europa, está tratando de conectar con su abuelo y entender la vida de una generacion pasada mientras pasa po su enfermedad. Eso le da peso emocional a la historia y hace que Jack sea más que solo el típico galanazo, claro a mi me pareció que la peli pudo haber mostardo más esa parte de la relación entre Jack y su abuelo porque es interesante pero queda un poco en segundo plano frente al romance.

The Map That Leads to You is a beautiful and pleasant movie that delivers exactly what it promises, it's perfect to watch on a relaxed day when you want something light and romantic without too much heavy drama, the performances are good, I loved the visual part I think it's one of my favorite things, the music is nice and the story although predictable is well told. If you like romantic movies with a melancholic touch and you don't mind knowing from the beginning how it's going to end then I'd say give it a chance because it's a pleasant experience from start to finish. If you're someone who hates predictable movies or open endings bother you this might not be for you and you better look for something else. I personally enjoyed it a lot despite its flaws because it was what I was looking for at that moment, it made me feel that nostalgia for trips and adventures I haven't had and reminded me that sometimes it's okay to get off the plan and just let yourself go with the moment. It's a movie that has heart and that counts, my score for The Map That Leads to You is 7.5/10, it succeeds at being a beautiful and relaxing romantic movie.

Este film usa de base un misterio el cual es la acción motivante de alguno de los relatos compartidos y funciona muy bien cuando existe la necesidad mantener el secreto de la desaparición de los niños, pero creo que lo mejor es que la historia no se enfoca solamente en eso y da paso a otros misterios más importantes lo cual termina siendo la verdadera base de todo acontecimiento en ese film; en eso el guion escrito por Cregger funciona muy bien porque creo que no existe una necesidad de alargar algo que primeramente es lo necesario para enganchar al espectador, pero también ofrece algo nuevo que hace no solo evolucionar a la historia, sino que hace que el interés siga presente sin importar que revelación se haga presente.

And that is the beats of this first season--you think Teresa has managed to gain some sort of ground, and then the earth opens up and pits her somewhere in between. She is caught in the middle of the battle between Camila Vargas and Epifanio, a man-wife couple running their business as a bloody chess game. She is the actual queen, intelligent as a razor, operating business with this kind of frightening lack of humanity and grace. And Teresa? She is swept up in that tempest, sucked into the world of Camila, where she begins as he is another chess piece yet you can watch slowly, so gradually, you can watch that fire in her.

Even the shootouts or the betrayals are not the moments that help you to remember the movie. It is the silent decisions that Teresa makes that demonstrates that she is not merely surviving but she is developing. Similar to when she has to smuggle drugs on behalf of Camila, or when she has to demonstrate her loyalty in order to remain alive. You can see what she is afraid of, but you see her eyes grow hard. She’s learning the rules, she’s watching, absorbing, planning. Their chemistry is not enforced, it is the silent one, the one that develops in the pauses, in the looks, in the manner he teaches her to find her way around a world that is made to destroy her. You do not know whether you trust him, nor Teresa, but you feel yourself leaning towards it whenever they are together, not business, not business, but survival, mentality, something more simmering there or other, you cannot tell.

Teresa does not give in, but she does learn with Camila how to negotiate, how to make people respect her, how to apply intelligence in the world when everyone else is using fear. Their scenes are electric and two women revolve around one another in the world where men are dominant and each realizes the power in the other.

The season is full of this ongoing tension--you know that Teresa is going to do something bigger, because the show is flirting with this right at the start, with that flash-forward of her as the mighty Queenpin. However, it is the excitement of following how she arrives there, inch by inch. Each betrayal, each partnership, each bloody sacrifice is bringing her a step closer to that crown, and breaking her humanity. And as a spectator you are torn between rooting her on, when she gets through, when she gives victory but you also feel the slice of her that she is losing on the way.

The thing that broke me was seeing her yet to bear a fragment of her former being her fidelity to Guero, her acts of generosity, her self-denial to give up altogether her heart. She is not turned into a monster, not yet. She is on that razor thin border between naivety and brutality, and it is the breath that is taken away by that line that makes the season so strong.

At the end, you are out of breath. You have seen her suffer betrayals, make impossible decisions, lose and make friends and you know--you are not only a witness of Teresa Mendoza surviving. You are witnessing the birth of legend, one that is soaked in blood and pain and yet strength and power. And the wildest part? You do not even know what to think of it. You’re proud of her. You’re terrified for her. You want her to win. You want her to escape. And you see she can not have both.

Season 1 of Queen of the South isn’t just a crime drama—it’s a raw, unfiltered story of transformation. It’s about what happens when life leaves you no choice but to become the very thing you feared. And sitting there, watching Teresa take step after step into that darkness, you can’t look away. When I finished watching the first sequel of this movie. Megan, I honestly thought the movie had ended very ok. It was intriguing, kept me on the edge of my seat, as a horror movie should overall I loved the combination of AI and horror I felt unique to me.

So when the news came out that there was going to be a second part, Megan 2.0, I was initially curious. What more could they possibly want to show us? The first film felt complete in itself. But after finally watching the sequel, I can happily say I wasn’t disappointed, in fact, I’m not mad at the sequel at all.

Megan 2.0 takes everything from the first movie, the dangers of unchecked AI, the blurry line between protection and control, and the emotional gaps in human relationships, and pushes it into a whole new territory. The shift from pure horror to horror-action really worked for me. It kept things fresh, surprising, and engaging in a whole new level from the first film. It gave Megan a new look.

One of the things I liked most was that instead of continuing the same path of the AI robot gone rogue, it became about AI and humans working together to develop and coexist. Megan is no longer just the villain; she's grown now and knows better so becomes part of the development.

The moment that really stood out to me was when Gemma had to make the tough choice to work with Megan in order to protect her nephew. The scene carried a lot of tension but it added to the spice in the movie. In the first movie, Megan was the threat everyone needed to eliminate. In Megan 2.0 she becomes a necessary evil, and Gemma’s decision shows how far she is willing to compromise to ensure her nephew’s safety. Making Megan into the not all that bad character was an interesting part of this sequel because the first part was just her being evil.

Performance-wise, the cast delivered solidly. The young actor playing the nephew brought a lot of emotion and authenticity, which is important because his safety and innocence are really what drives Gemma’s decisions.

I also love the fact that it wasn't predictable, it kept me on my feet till the end. Most movies with sequels are always predictable so I like that this wasn't.

In the end, Megan 2.0 proved itself as a worthy sequel. It didn't just follow the plot of the first sequel but brought up a whole new one and it was worth the watch.

I'll rate it a 4.5/5 with this rating I'll recommend this movie to anyone who loves thrill and love AI related movies.
