Today's recommendation is a movie I've seen several times since I was a teenager, and I find it a fun/nice way to pass the time.
Especially since Anne Hathaway stars in this film, I feel like her presence and beauty add a wonderful touch to her performances. She always looks elegant and impeccable, as she does here.
The film is about a girl named Ella who, at birth, receives a gift from her fairy godmother: the gift of obedience, meaning that with this gift, she must obey any order given to her—yes, any order at all.
This gift is somewhat problematic, but everything becomes even more problematic when Ella's mother dies, and she now has to stay with her father. Incidentally, this man remarries a woman who already has two daughters. They become a family, and now Ella must live with them as well. Unfortunately, not everything goes well, because they manage to discover this gift that Ella has.

It's a fantasy and drama film, but despite that, it touches on important themes such as autonomy, personal identity, free will, discrimination, among others.
The story is presented very much in the style of Cinderella, but with some very notable differences. We could say it's inspired by that tale. It's quite entertaining, in my opinion; it has a good setting, humor, and a good message at the end. The story is a bit predictable, but it works well enough for the whole family to enjoy.
What you want is one thing, but what nature will make of you is quite another.
The Blue Lagoon is a very delicate film that strives to soften and show how nature, through instinct, forces us to move through the different stages of life, in a process where we ask ourselves a number of questions about why we experience new sensations that we didn't even know existed before, such as romantic love or the beautiful feeling of being a mother.
I recently watched this film on Netflix, and I am so glad I did, because it is a beautiful film that raises various issues that expand the ideological ocean of what it wants to convey in the minds of its main characters, who notice changes not only in their thinking, but also in their bodies. The most compelling aspect is that they themselves have no idea what is happening, but their instincts do.
There are things that only humans do, only we pray, why do we do it... haven't you ever wondered why, because we believe in something beyond ourselves. The idea I most want you to take away is that this film is not only about exploring love, it is also about exploring death and with it the birth of spirituality thanks to despair.
I'm sharing the trailer with you, where you can see the main characters Richard, played by Christopher Atkins, and Emmeline, played by the beautiful and innocent Brooke Shields, lost on an island with the knowledge of a 4-year-old child and no other guide than the experience of nature to understand everything that will happen in their lives.
It is a story told through the eyes of an Eve who was born at the genesis of life, metaphorically speaking. When I saw the film, it was as if I were watching Adam and Eve learn to truly live, each day with different situations, such as Emmeline's menstruation without her knowing what is happening to her. It is the terror of nature forcing the characters to walk the dark path of development where they are not consciously aware of what is happening, but their bodies are.
As an audience member, you just have to disconnect from the current social structures of the story you will see in this film. I disconnected from all those superficial things, and in the end, I was left with a film that is now one of my favorites because of how well it addresses religious beliefs and death. The film has love to spare, and that's why you have to look beyond that to fully, objectively, and completely appreciate all the majesty of The Blue Lagoon.

Life sometimes throws us into somersaults and we can't even imagine where we're going to land. That's why we have to sow, that is, give love and lend a hand to other people. Because in an instant we're up and we open our eyes and “Plop.” If we don't have hands to hold us up and help us, the blow is very hard and it shakes our life. This usually happens to people who think they are superior and deserve everything. They are completely wrong, because they are just like the rest of us human beings.
It is understandable that people want to get ahead and achieve their dreams, goals, and life plans. Above all, they work hard to achieve them. However, from my point of view, what I don't agree with is that they forget their roots, their family, and their friends. On the other hand, I believe that we should never lose our essence. Where do we come from? Who are we? This is fundamental to growing as people. Believing oneself to be better than others and being ashamed of one's pride may cause them to miss out on important and valuable things in life, but to each their own.
As we say, Venezuelans of my generation think they know everything and the “last Coca-Cola in the desert,” but they don't even come close to “boli bomba.” An example of this type of person is April, the protagonist of the movie “Feel the Beat”, an unpleasant or “repulsive” young woman, as we Venezuelans say. Because she always wants to be first, she makes a mistake, and this mistake costs her her career. Accustomed to doing whatever she wants regardless of who she hurts, she has no choice but to return to square one.
To that world she left behind, where she has unfinished business. She has to face her past and embrace a lifestyle that, according to her, no longer suits her. But fate has other plans for her. Whether she likes it or not, she ends up coaching a group of girls to participate in a dance competition. I invite you to enjoy the adventures of April and these girls who gradually steal her heart.
It is a film that makes you reflect on what is truly worthwhile, on how to give your life a new direction and meaning. Above all, it is about having the ability to land on your feet when the world is spinning around you, because you have to be prepared from the moment you wake up to face the obstacles that come your way.

“Feel the Beat” is a beautiful film that highlights values such as family, friendship, companionship, and loyalty. Above all, it shows what it means to be a role model for children. A film that shows that people should not forget their roots, as this gives meaning to life. And that we must learn to see the world with our hearts and less arrogance. It is a fresh and funny comedy for the whole family to enjoy. It was released in 2020 and directed by Australian Elissa Down.
Sofia Carso, as always, gives an excellent performance; however, Wolfgang Novogratz lacks spark and passion for the character of Nick. Another performance I really liked was that of the girls' teacher, who introduced April to dancing. My congratulations to all the girls, little Dicky, the parents, and all the actors. For some, it's not a great movie, but for me it is, because it carries a message of love, family, community, and solidarity.
My favorite scene is when they dance and play in the rain.

We never know for sure where life will take us, because sometimes it takes us down paths we never imagined. That's why we must sow love, act with honesty, and stop thinking of ourselves as snobs and snobs. Remember that sometimes we find the true value of life in simple things.
Happy Sunday, dear movie lovers! Like every day off, we have time to watch a good movie. In my case, I watched two romantic movies, but there was one in particular that I liked, and that's the one I'm here to talk to you about today. It's called Materialists, directed by Celine Song and starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans. This film was released a few months ago, and I was looking forward to seeing it because I wanted to see the chemistry between Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal. Even though they claim they're just friends, in this production they got along so well that in the interviews I saw, they seemed more like a real couple.
The film begins with a reference that caught my attention: a couple in prehistoric times, when the man returns from hunting to his wife and gives her what he has caught, but also brings her flowers and weaves a ring from one of them, making it clear that the man is the natural provider, and the woman responds by accepting what she receives with a smile and a kiss. Then Lucy Mason(Dakota Johnson) appears in the present day doing her job, which is based on finding single candidates to have an ideal partner, being a kind of cupid in the search for that prince charming or dream princess.
When I watch Lucy's interviews, I am very surprised to see how women and men visualize their partners with such demanding criteria that it amazes you. She takes note of her clients' expectations and tastes in order to achieve that perfect date; however, from the answers given by these singles, it seems that they are looking for a business partner rather than the love of their life. Men make a point of specifying that they want to date young women under 30 who are physically attractive and financially independent, while women are looking for men who are successful, and good-looking.
Lucy manages to match several of her clients, even getting one of the couples to marry. She attends the wedding, but at the last minute the bride has second thoughts because she realizes she is not in love. Talking to Lucy, she asks her why she agreed to marry him. to which she replies that it is mainly so she doesn't remain single, since at her age it is difficult to find another opportunity to marry. She also can't stand that her sister is married, and financially she would be secure with this marriage. Lucy ends the conversation with this sentence: “Marriage is a business transaction that should make you feel secure,” and if you feel that way with him, you shouldn't let this opportunity pass you by.
As you can see, this wedding is not about love or feelings, but rather economic and social convenience. It is common to see mature women over 40 who are somewhat desperate to get married and have children, and in many cases, they don't care about falling in love, but rather that their partner gives them what they need. In the case of men, it's clear in the film that as they get older, they develop a desire to be with younger women. Although these women may not be very intellectual, they believe that this is compensated for by their good looks.
*Lucy involved in this circle because of her work, becomes even more disappointed in men, putting love aside, since after failing with her only love in her youth because of money, she knows she cannot aspire to a partner who combines both qualities, so she prefers to remain alone and fend for herself. At this wedding, she meets Harry Castillo (Pedro Pascal), a handsome man with a good financial standing, and they strike up a conversation. While she sees him as a potential client, he sees her as a potential partner, so he asks for her number and asks her out; however, at this same wedding, she encounters her former childhood sweetheart John Pitts(Chris Evans), whom she has never been able to forget. He is working as a waiter at the wedding, and they chat happily about seeing each other again. All her feelings and memories of their relationship come flooding back to her. However, convinced that Harry is right one, she begins a relationship with him. But no matter how hard she tries, the chemistry isn't there. She can't achieve that naturalness in conversation or the peace of feeling like herself, as she did when she was with John. Even though he takes her to expensive places, gives her gifts, and offers her trips, he doesn't offer her love.*
There is a scene that shows how important feelings are in a relationship. It was when Lucy had problems at work and was feeling very emotional, and the only person she decided to call to vent to was her ex-boyfriend. He listened patiently and reassured her, while she didn't even feel comfortable telling her boyfriend anything.
At the end of the film, Lucy ends up deciding her future by giving greater importance to what she needs, and although you'll have to see for yourselves what her decision was, I can tell you that the ending was charming. All that's left for me to do is invite you to see this film, and if you've already seen it, I encourage you to leave your thoughts in the comments below. Until next time.

The number of films released every day is huge, but within that there is a genre, horror and mystery, which lately has not been so good, but rather more of the same, and this has led new directors to take a chance on producing something that is good and different from what we are used to seeing. That is why a film in this genre was recently released that has given people a lot to talk about, as it presents something with a great impact and a situation that no one would like to experience, especially if you are a child. That is why it will be a great adventure of horror, fear, and suspense.
This new installment in the genre is known as Weapons. It is a high-quality film and the most terrifying two hours from start to finish, precisely because it achieves such an impact, which is why I couldn't pass up this new release. This time, we will see the story of a large number of children who mysteriously disappear, leaving no trace and with no one knowing at the same time and on the same night, which is where this great terror begins, as it is such a complicated situation and everyone is looking for an answer so they can put an end to it. However, behind it all lies a force from beyond, which is the most shocking aspect of this installment. This is where we ask ourselves: Who is behind it? Will the children return alive? And many other questions, as it is a combination of very interesting elements.
The film has great style and a way of handling the situation that is very different from other films of this genre, since from the beginning everything is very confusing and in the blink of an eye everything happens, which becomes a case of great importance, since they are children in a very small town, which involves the police, the families, and everyone united in order to find them. Another thing I liked is the way the children disappear, as it is a strange phenomenon that has no explanation, and that is why you need to pay close attention to every detail in order to understand the whole plot, which leads us to a paranormal event, giving this film much more power and starting a game where death is present.
Each of the scenes is very well crafted and set in dark colors, which creates a little more tension and fear when watching the entire production, giving it a great touch, as do the parts that feature the use of special effects and music to create a much more terrifying atmosphere and scenes that are sure to give you a big scare. The characters that bring the story to life each add a lot of value by playing an important role, especially a teacher who is the only one to have seen the children, and everything falls on her, making her a suspect. But as the investigation begins, nothing fits together, and many doubts arise, creating a mystery that must be solved as quickly as possible, because if not, more children will disappear and everything will become more complicated.
I thought it was a great film in this genre and it exceeded many expectations by introducing new elements and giving the plot a big twist, as well as using paranormal events that, even though they are pure effects, manage to cause fear and make you imagine being in something like that and even more so disappearing. This installment emphasizes many important things, such as family, which is where everything comes from and sets an example for children to follow in their daily lives. That's why it's a great movie that you have to see, so you can get some good scares and learn the truth about everything that happens in that city. My rating is 8/10.
Cheers to those movies that succeed in pulling us out of dreadful movie slumps. The feeling of wanting to watch a movie but not being able to bring yourself to watch one for fear of it being disappointing, is downright awful and sadly, I’ve had to live like that in the weeks gone by. A friend of mine talked about this movie she’d recently seen, and although she didn’t hype it, she mentioned how dark the plot was. I wasn’t intrigued but last night, the urge to watch a movie came finally, and I chose to watch it. Disregarding the fact that it was late at night, and I had barely five hours to sleep before my alarm started blaring.
MaXXXine is a 2024 psychological horror film that tells the story of Maxxine Minx. The movie opens with a clip of little Maxxine on stage, being interrogated by a voice she calls dad. In that clip, she expresses her ambitions with childlike innocence and tells us of how she will never accept to live a life she doesn’t deserve.
Twenty-something years later, Maxxine is all grown, and now a porn actress. Still driven by that line from her childhood, she decides to go into Hollywood and is chosen for a role in a horror movie. Not sooner does she get into a role, does she realize the deaths of many people around her. Not only are these people murdered gruesomely. They all have the mark of the devil imprinted on them at their deaths. Although it’s disturbing, Maxxine has her own fair share of demons to face. Those from her past, and this man who seems to be stalking her. Which would she rather face?
I watched this movie without a trace of sleep between my eyes because the story line had me so engrossed that I couldn’t care less about what went on around me - time inclusive. All I wanted was answers to everything I’d been promised from the start. Answers I didn’t end up getting. The storyline was pretty unique. Maxxine continued to unravel every now and then, into a more fiery character and it made me like her better. Here, she wasn’t portrayed as another helpless character in a horror movie. She was portrayed as one who ruled her fears, one who fought, notwithstanding the demons tearing at her from within. I liked that.
One other thing I liked about this movie were the soundtracks. From actual songs to just beats, they captured moments in this movie. Making your emotions run deeper than they already did. For instance, there was a scene where a character i was beginning to like died, and although Maxxine embodied the role, moving me close to tears, the soundtrack did it for me. At the sound of the instrumental, I couldn’t help the tears running down my cheeks.
For horror as a genre, there is no standing in between. It is either it goes all the way to make an impact, or it just flops. It’s never in-between and unfortunately, finding movies that fall into the category of the former proves a hassle sometimes. I expected a lot from this movie, to be very honest. It started out with high hopes, like a classic horror movie should, but so many things were missing that made the movie feel incomplete at the end.
There were flashbacks of a traumatic past our main character had survived from that were never visited. We only saw flashes of them, and while I thought we’d be given an actual story to connect the dots, we weren’t. I was disturbed by this because that seemed like a crucial part of our main character, it seemed like that was what made her Maxxine and it was left out like that? Unfair, in my opinion.
As unsatisfying as this movie ended up being, it’s a good thing I’m back to watching movies, seeing that I already watched two films in the span of twenty hours. This fast paced movie isn’t one I’d recommend to people, that’s because no matter how your state of mind was clarified before starting, you’d be left confused in the end. I’ll rate this movie a 5.5/10. Bonus points to its ability to keep you engrossed while watching.
Thanks for reading

Hi movie lovers…it’s the weekend!
How are y’all feeling today? Oh well, I’m feeling good and quite mushy right now.
No, don’t worry. There’s no “Odogwu” (fine rich guy) in my corner, just the Odogwu I saw in the movie I watched last night.
The movie was all shades of humor, emotions and butterflies. My parents had to bang the door a few times to keep my voice down as my laughter was all over the room.
The movie's name is Chess and apparently, it has been on my watchlist on YouTube for a while now. The cover image just didn’t look too appealing.
So yesterday after a rough day, I decided to just feed my eyes and I randomly chose the movie.
Oh, Bambam is such a beauty. I love love love love herrrr. I love how she interprets every role given to her. She’s so soft spoken and she’s so humorous!! Like, I could laugh all day just by hearing her speak.
Ahh, let’s get into the movie already…
So Ifunanya is a young lady who’s getting to her thirties…
She just clocked 29 and you know what they say? 29 and desperate.
She desperately needs to be in a relationship. She just wants to feel loved and cherished you know?
That’s every lady’s dream so I don’t blame her. She falls into the hands of different men who just want a taste of her money and sex.
After getting stood up on her birthday again this year, she cries out her heart in the shower and the next morning she heads over to work looking so casually dressed. She’s surprised to see everyone dressed to the nines, looking all formal.
She knows that’s not the usual way. They are a PR company and they really don’t care about how they dress to the office. She enquires from her best friend Blessing who tells her that there is a new boss in town.
The CEO’s son just took over the company and he’s up for no nonsense dress sense. They get to meet and she’s introduced to him.
Next thing I see is that they get a bit close after closing a deal and for the second time, sees her getting entangled with men not on her level. So, he begins teaching her the game of chess and how she is supposed to be the Queen and not the pawn. So many life rules.
She takes them and now she’s seen to be getting her self-respect and not falling for rogues in the name of men.
From there Mr Adams her new boss, introduces her to his daughter and they become friends. Due to the fact that he couldn’t communicate with his daughter freely, he used ifunanya as a bridge to reach out to his daughter.
Meanwhile, during this time, she had started falling in love with Adams and it was during this period that he opened up to her that he lost his wife during the birth of his daughter and it still haunts him hence his distance from his daughter.
When I thought the love was gonna blossom, Adams just shows up one morning at work and scolds Ifunanya in front of everyone in the office for attempting to arrange his office.
She felt so bad and removed him from her heart.
Ifunanya finally gets to meet the man she thinks is the perfect one for her. He ticked all her boxes and even respected the fact that he is a client who is proposing a deal and waits for the deal to be finalized before he asks her out. They date for a while and when they finally think they are getting somewhere, Adams shows up and tells her that she doesn’t know how to control her emotions and that she just loves being a pawn. Oh, that triggers her so much as she bawls out her eyes and drops her resignation letter the next day.
Plot twist, after a night of beautiful intimacy with her newfound love, he ghosts her. She honestly thinks he’s in danger as that is a strange behavior from him. Then came a knock at her door, she opens up, and boom she meets the wife and mother of her newfound love. She’s literally heartbroken that her mom who desperately wants her to get married comforts her so emotionally.
Adams shows up at her house and after so much hesitation from her, they finally become an item.
MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS
Honestly, this movie is all shades of amazing. I literally loved the voice-overs from Ifunanya. It actually led me through the story and was all shades of funny including where her head voices would show up just to say what her mouth couldn’t say. And I loved how the movie transitioned from this to that to that.
You know it wasn’t your regular “employee falls in love with boss and they become a thing”. All the obstacles and plot twists were so amazing as they formed the climax of the story.
My rating for this movie is a solid 8/10.
It’s a must-watch guys

I was expecting more from Wolf Man considering Leigh Whannell directed The Invisible Man which I liked quite a bit but for me Wolf Man didn't come close to meeting my expectations although the film works in some aspects but I definitely feel it fell short in many other areas. Leigh Whannell presents a modern take on the classic werewolf and this time it's focused on family and the fears we pass down from generation to generation, which I find super interesting as a concept because Blake played by Christopher Abbott is a father who tries not to be like his dad who was pretty aggressive towards him, but in the end he ends up becoming the monster his dad feared and at some point became as well. The ironic thing is that as much as Blake tries to protect his family, he himself becomes the biggest threat to them, and this is super fucked up when you think about it because the guy spent his whole life trying not to be like his old man and in the end he couldn't escape that fate. Something that struck me about this movie is that Whannell decided to turn lycanthropy into a kind of disease instead of the typical supernatural change with the full moon, and this works because it gives a more realistic and scary touch to the whole situation, once you get infected there's no turning back, you become permanently a mindless beast and that's scarier than just transforming a few nights a month. The transformation process shown by Christopher Abbott is uncomfortable to watch because it is slow and it happens little by little, you see how the guy loses his teeth, his skin changes, his senses are more intense but he also loses the ability to communicate with his family and with everyone.
The film has its moments of tension that are very good as when Blake is beginning to transform inside the house, the sound is very well done and the atmosphere that is created is quite disturbing with that shot where you do not know where the danger is. I quite liked how they handled the perspective of the werewolf with that blue and purple vision they give him, it looks very good and gives an interesting visual touch that I hadn't seen before in werewolf movies, it looks like those wolf t-shirts that were popular in the 90's with those bright colors. The makeup is good and I liked that it wasn't the typical hairy werewolf with a perfect hairdo but something more raw and sickly, although I was expecting him to look a bit more intimidating at the end. Christopher Abbott does a good job showing that transformation and Julia Garner also fulfills her role although it seemed to me that her character is not as developed as it should be, the daughter also acts well for a child and does not feel forced at any time. That plot twist that the werewolf that is chasing them is Blake's dad was pretty obvious from the start but it still works within the generational trauma story they are trying to tell and more so when Blake realizes he just killed his own father who had become the very thing he feared.
The special effects are decent for the budget they handled but you can tell they had economic limitations, there are scenes that are too dark and sometimes you can't see clearly what is going on which takes away quite a bit of tension instead of adding to it. It seems to me that Whannell tried to do too much with too little money and while I respect the effort, you feel that the film needed more resources to reach its full potential, especially in the action scenes and in the final design of the werewolf. The house where most of the action happens is a good setting but they didn't take advantage of it as much as they could, it would have been better to have more tense scenes exploring different areas of the house instead of just being locked inside for most of the time. The pacing of the movie is pretty slow and while I understand that they wanted to develop that transformation little by little, there are moments where I felt like the movie stalled a bit and didn't move the story forward fast enough like in the second part where Blake is getting sick but still doesn't pose a direct threat. The scene where Blake eats his own arm is super disturbing and definitely takes you out of your comfort zone and shows how far the disease can go, but after that the movie takes quite a while to get to the tension again.
That message about generational trauma is fine but sometimes I feel like the movie repeats it to you too much instead of letting you figure it out for yourself, there are parts where they literally explain the metaphor to you instead of trusting that one can net you what's going on just by watching it. There are some really good moments with the shots of the forest that feels so real and gives that sense of isolation that the story needs, although as I said before some scenes are so dark that you lose important details. The sound is also well worked I liked in those scenes where Blake has super developed hearing and you can hear things like the spider walking on the walls, those moments really get you inside the story and are very good to create tension. The fight between the two werewolves is decent but it's pretty short and I didn't find it as epic as it could have been, although I understand that the focus of the movie is more on psychological horror than action. The ending is good for the story they are telling although I found it a bit depressing, Charlotte has to kill her own husband to protect her daughter and that image of the two of them alone in the valley at the end seemed a bit strong to me. What I didn't like is that there was potential for a really good movie here but it fell short perhaps because of budget things and some story decisions that didn't end up working completely.
Wolf Man isn't a terrible movie but it also doesn't reach the greatness it could have had with more budget and a slightly more developed script, it has real moments that are good and Christopher Abbott gives a very good performance but in the end I couldn't help but feel that I saw a movie that could have been much better. The concept of treating lycanthropy as a disease is interesting and different, and the exploration of generational trauma has quite a bit of merit but the execution is not as good as it should be for a film that wants to be taken seriously. If I compare it to The Invisible Man by the same director, Wolf Man has less focus and less emotional impact, though it has its good stuff as a decent entry into the horror genre. If you are a fan of werewolf movies and have moderate expectations you will probably enjoy it, but don't expect it to be the reinvention of the genre that some were hoping for, I give it a 6.5/10, it is a solid but not exceptional movie it fulfills its basic purpose as a horror movie but doesn't go beyond that.
Ms. Kanyin, I won't say this movie is interesting or not because it's somehow scary, and I don't watch scary movies. But for those who love scary movies, they might find it interesting. It was written by Tobe Otuogbodor.
The movie starts with a group of people traveling in a bush, seemingly in the olden days. They get to a mysterious tree, and the person taking them there warns them that they shouldn't be in that place because the tree is dangerous. However, their boss, a white man, refuses to listen and wants to make a video there, but he's killed by a strange hand.
Years later,a school has been built in that bush and the tree is now in the compound of that school. So in the secondary school, their are a group of friends preparing for their WASC exam. One of the friends, Amara, is planning to travel abroad to study in Harvard if only she passes her French exam. Another friend, Amanda, has been promised by her parents that she can study in the UK if she passes, and Utti hopes to win a scholarship if he passes. They're all studying hard, but French seems to be a challenge for them.
One day, the principal asks Ms. Kanyin, a trusted teacher, to keep the French question papers with her. Amara visits the principal's house to check her friend Chioma, the principal daughter and sees the question papers in Ms. Kanyin's hand. Ms. Kanyin drops the papers while running from the principal's dogs, and Amara picks them up but doesn't see the questions properly. Despite this, Amara continues to practice French on her own, answering questions and marking them herself, but still struggles.
Amara then approaches Ms. Kanyin for help, and to show her the question papers but she's refused and sent her away. The next day, Amara tells her friends about the question papers, and although they're initially hesitant, they eventually agree to steal the papers because they all need to pass their French exam. Amara involves Chioma, the principal's daughter, who has access to the teachers' lodge. They plan everything, with Chioma drawing the key and stealing one of Ms. Kanyin's keys. Amanda sews masks for them.
They target the day when one of the teachers, Mr. Mustapha, plans to take Ms. Kanyin out. However, Mr. Mustapha's car breaks down, and they have to return home. Ms. Kanyin notices someone has broken into her house and chases Amara, but Ms Kanyin falls and hits her head on a broken tree by the mysterious tree. Her blood splatters on the tree, and Ms. Kanyin's ghost starts killing the friends one by one.
The friends start dying, and the principal calls the police to look for Ms. Kanyin because they can't find her corpse. However, there's no trace of her. It's later revealed that the mysterious tree is cursed, that the blood of the person that touch the tree will hunt people, and the only solution is to burn it. Mr. Mustapha, Chioma, and Amara embark on this perilous journey, but it was not easy to burn the tree but they later survived in burning the tree. not everyone survives.
In the end, everyone involved in the plan loses their life except Chioma and Amara. Amara, who masterminded the plan, survives and even takes the exam, but she's already burned the stolen question booklet when her friend started dying. I love the storyline, although it's scary. The lesson learned is that if someone involve her friends in wrongdoing, they might not survive, but the person that involved them might survive you. So, be careful who you're friends with and the kind of thing they ask you do do for them. I rate this movie 8/10.
Boredom, look what you made me do. Well, I'm grateful that boredom did this thing to me because I feel like the only way I can conquer boredom and come out victorious is by keeping myself busy doing the things I love, and what is that one thing I love the most? Hmm, I love seeing movies, but don't call me a movie freak, though.
This movie came out in cinemas last year, and I've been waiting patiently for it to be released on other platforms so I can sacrifice my data to download it.
The plot
The movie tells the story of a woman named "Yetunde," a self-proclaimed social media influencer who has dedicated her life to spreading fake stories about herself.
Her friends helped her in achieving that online glamorous persona but then everything was cut short when she couldn't control her lies any longer.
Yetunde pursues her fame rather than staying true to herself, thereby forgetting the humble background she grew up in. As the story progresses, Yetunde tries to compel herself as she faces real-life issues, and in the midst of finding that right person to believe in her words for the one time that she needed that person, she didn't get that person.
My Review
Firstly, I'm gonna start by saying the truth is that when we get fond of telling lies and people have known us for the lifestyle, it will be very difficult for people to believe us when we are telling the truth because we've built our lives on lies. And that is what happened to Yetunde.
She lived her life in lies; everything that comes out of her mouth is unrelated to the truth. Even in the presence of someone who would have helped her, she used lies to chase that person away.
The movie takes us on a walk, part comedy, and part drama. The particular scene that made me laugh hard was the scene when a food critic hosted her and her friends for a date, and she went in there with her lies. That made the person who hosted the date walk out on them, leaving them to pay the bills, as you know it. She doesn't have the money to pay the bills, so they found themselves in the kitchen of the restaurant doing the dishes.
Beneath the humor, there is a pitiful observation of how some people will go to live in lies. Yetunde didn't care about anything, even at the moment when her younger sister was being abused by her boyfriend. Yetunde didn't say anything; rather, she made fun of the whole thing. "That part struck something inside of me." Then, I imagined what would happen if her sister died due to the abuse. What would she do about it then?. She showed she was selfish and didn't care about those around her, she was just after her fame.
In general the movie is incredible and there are alot to learn from it. I'm gonna rate this movie a 7/10. Images are screenshots from my phone.
It has been a while since I last saw a film that had quite an impact on me.
Though that is more from the fact that I just haven't been watching a lot of things nor seeking out films that tend to be more leaning on the art house side of things. I have had such a busy time lately that watching just anything seemed nice, anything to relax to. I stumbled across Eternity and a Day online and realised I haven't seen many Greek films throughout the years, and it instantly caught my interest. What stood out was the general synopsis, alongside the film's release in the late 90s. Showing a very different type of Europe to what we know of now. This was when Eastern Europe and the former Yugoslavia region was struggling immensely, not too long after the Soviet Union's collapse, and much of Europe's small nations being rather poor. This sets up the story here in Eternity and a Day; a dying man finds himself roaming the land with a young refugee Albanian. Saved from the chaos of the streets, while also saving the old man in his slow acceptance of death.
Mostly from the perspective of character Alexandros, the film starts with his discovery of his terminal illness. A man that has already lost his wife, and has dealt with immense depression since. Once an aspiring writer, he's found himself incapable of finishing anything. In a hermit state of being rather than attempting to live. His daughter has already moved into her own adult stages of life and has a child on the way. Alexandros attempts to get a few affairs in order while claiming he has to go on a journey. Never calling this next stage the final one, but instead a journey. He hands her his dead wife's letters, which themselves are reflective on the poetic nature of life. Alexandros speaking to her in his later years, though she always appears young and full of energy in these moments. As she was when the two fell in love.
The film feeling like a fever dream in its movements and gentle form of speech. Narration that's more like a whisper. Characters that slowly move around the environments that are often visible with decay and neglect. Ghosts of the past that remain. This dreamy feeling to the film is met with the harshness of reality. The threat of human traffickers and immense suffering. Though these events and the story of the child have Alexandros on his own unexpected journey through the nation. Witnessing various forms of life, from weddings to the snowy border crossings. Aspects of life and culture in the old streets and buildings. Slowly reviving the life within Alexandros, no longer feeling numb to the world but rather impressed by it. Now inspired again. Even in these moments, the film continues to drag, to be slow in its movements, rarely with much sound. There's usually muted sounds from the surroundings or a more dominant one that emphasises the events taking place.
It's these moments where nothing is being said. The camera just moves around the environment and shows how people move within that space as well. This constant passing of time and motion. Where there's always something going on. It's incredibly beautiful in how the cinematography works alongside the story, with how it manages to juggle the very nature of life itself with the pacing of a story; the moments where there are ups and downs throughout. This is seen with how Alexandros finds himself all over, and how slowly but surely, the smiles return. Less so with visible sadness in the eyes. More content. More appreciative of the life that is unfolding around him, and how he also has a part in it all. The poetry narration continues throughout, primarily over such moments. There's sadness and beauty in how they're read. A still tone. A gentle whisper again.
I found this film to be incredibly beautiful. It's simple. Alexandros is known for his journeys, but less so in recent years. Though this film is probably his most important. A journey of self-discovery yet again as this is effectively his last day of freedom before heading off to the hospital for additional tests and the resulting attempts at treatment. In some ways, this is his last true day. And he slowly makes the most of it. There's a little more to the story, but it's not something I'll be fully writing about here as to not spoil the whole thing.
