Steem is $.10...and you've got a decision to make.

OnceUponATime.jpg

Since I've been using Steem there has been a legend. Most of us have heard about it, through whispers in the dark or in the tales of some old OG Steemians. Yes, I'm talking about the legendary

$.07 cent Steem.

There was a long period of time where Steem hovered in the $3 range, spiking up to $4.50 and back down into the 3's. In those days, the idea of $.07 cent Steem was like a far away dream, a chance none of us would ever get again. Oh if only we'd been here for that sweet $.07 cent Steem...

Well, here we are. Not at .07 but pretty damn close. The price has almost never been worse, but the chain has never been better. What happened this year? To name a few things, Steem Engine, SCOT tokens and tribes, HF 21(22) which basically killed bidbots and and a ton of abuse. SMT's are in testnet and Communities are in beta testing, Splinterlands had a hugely successful kickstarter, Steempeak continued to develop and maintain it's title as the best Steem frontend, 3Speak, Appics integrated their APX token which was a huge step forward for them, Steemleo is creating the blueprint for how to run a successful tribe, etc, etc.

I powered up a bit of Steem, a little over 900, I don't have much fiat to spend on crypto right now, but I wanted to get something at these prices. I can't help but think, if this much happened in the worst bear market crypto has seen in years, what will happen in the next bull market? I remember the path we were on, there were new dapps being announced every week. Some new project or initiative, when the next iteration of Steem is all said and done, basically post Comunities and SMT's, I want to have as much influence as possible.

Being a huge whale is not a realistic goal for me right now, but when I was first starting out as a plankton it wasn't huge whales that supported me and motivated me to keep posting. It was dolphins and minnows. Especially since we're on the cusp of communities, I think now is the time to get that influence so that you can be a part of building those communities of the future. At least that's what I'm looking forward to.

So...you know, just saying...

We'll see where things go from here, how are you feeling about the current prices and state of things?

I'm still grateful that I get to share, store, and blog my journey while retaining value from my efforts. I don't see users of other media platforms crying about their posts being virtually worthless.

It's better to have a realistic assessment of a low threshold whilst not gaming the platform by few bloated accounts and we can always ascend as a community. A large and active userbase will benefit us all in terms of long term stability and enjoyment of quality connections.

I'm guilty of spending more energy on Instagram out of habit, and I also find that app more enjoyable to use. 😑. But that tech had over a decade to build up, so I ought to direct my energy to a platform that values and empowers me and other creators.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. This and your post about the future of art had inspired and motivated me to keep moving forward.

Price seems about right. The network still feels like it is contracting. Not sure if it is speeding up or slowing down, but we're still going in the wrong direction. It will be interesting to see what happens if we break the mythical seven cent barrier. People are starting to feel ten cents, we see how everyone feels if we reach a new all-time low.

Not like any of this is surprising. The platform is trying to find equilibrium somewhere, and I believe we haven't found it yet, although we may be getting close. Whether Steem can survive when it reaches that equilibrium is another question.

But in an attempt to spin the negative into a positive, a shrinking network means less competition. Less competition means more abundance. It's pretty easy to get seen and garner attention given the lack of quality and the lack of creators. I've been able (more than ever) to make consistent Steem earnings recently (although I'm not a frequent poster). Sure, the Steem may not end up being worth anything, but the "virtual" value / representative value is still cool. We can tell our grandkids that we were pioneers in a new and unforgiving frontier. Granted most of us died and came away with nothing, but we'll still have the history.

Easy call to make. I like what I see and what we are missing is on the marketing, onboarding, users side of things not the blockchain itself which is still one of the top chains out there. I will keep powering up everything and buying when I can afford some. Nothing would make me feel worse than seeing $100 dollar STEEM in a few years and knowing I passed up on the chance to be involved knowing what we could build here, especially at these prices.

I'm going to have to look between my car seats for some change and buy some Steem....the risk is far to great not to buy.

Heard rumours it used to be much lower than that even 🤣

I only notice prices these days because of the graph in the SteemPeak wallet.

I’m happy enough to continue blundering along doing my thing and buying Splinterlands cards and not being an influential whale because that thought is terrifying 😅 like everyone else I’d drastically cut back activity or leave if I wasn’t 😜

The current prices reflect the level of demand for STEEM, which is very low. I think we need to work on the demand side of the equation. Which is what inspired me to start working on Native Ads (links below).

I'm optimistic about Communities, because they will increase engagement, which will create some demand for network resources as well; but more needs to be done after Communities are released.

This should be easier because more people will actually enjoy being here, participating in their communities, and their presence will create opportunities to create services/products that increase demand for STEEM/SMTs.

I’ve only ever really seen the price go down and down. So I’m not in a funk about things but I must admit I’m a bit bored of two years of occasionally reading from some experts about this magical bull run we’re all waiting for.

I’d like to buy more now but I’m not sure what on earth would turn things around for STEEM. Is it just a lost investment? I’m on 10.5k SP which is more than I ever dreamed of having 2 years ago!

I’ll give buying more at $0.07 some serious thought though.

First off, I will be here for a few more years if steem block chain is still around. Opinion wise and personal feeling wise, (meaning not backed by facts, just my opinion/thoughts), HF 20/21 was a fail.

EIP: Is the economic stability of steem any better off with the EIP as of today? If the answer is well of course not but all crypto is in the tank, then the EIP is still a miserable failure because it has done nothing to separate STEEM from any of the other crypto-coins. EIP ='d Economic Improvement Plan. So far I have not seen any improvement in the economic stability of Steem.

SPS: Is it attracting outside coders and programmers, or is it just a burn 10% of the steem pool system. When you have the large accounts, and the steemit accounts all rejecting proposals because the coders/developers do not want to go open source, then that is a fail. Asking for everything from the coders and then pulling the rug out from under them when they "FORK" over there code for the SPS bribe price, a failure.

Free Down Vote: "First they came for....then they came for me and there was no one left...." Sorry the down vote system was broke, is broke and looks like it will remain broke because the folks that can fix it like it being broke. Bid bots first, then so called circle voters, then just because you needed a down vote, then SBI. Who or what application is next on the down vote list.

Where do I see it going from here: With the above, and with the massive advertising of a McCarthy era style of Blacklist, I honestly do not see any current drive to on-board new users working. I give it about 2 weeks 3 weeks at the most before the APPICs's post are routinely down voted. People are right now hopeful that the new Hive-Communities are going to right a few wrongs, I don't see that happening at all. Not in the environment of down vote this down vote that for this or for that reason. What is different about a small community of people writing and posting on topics and things they like and voting for each others post than what are currently termed circle jerk accounts?

But I will be here through all the ups, (if there ever are any more to come), and all the downs for at least the next couple of years.

Decision is to stay and post.

  • @culgin(72)· 2468d

Will certainly still stack some every month as planned. Regardless the price :)

  • @abitcoinskeptic(75)· 2469d

I will buy a little more. I've been stocking up since september and I am almost at my long term target and buying any amount sub ten cents is awesome just to say I took part in this historical 1 time only event. I dont believe we will get another chance this decade, especially after next month when it ends.

  • @sizandyola(55)· 2469d

I can definitely relate with you. I used to post here a lot. Then i stopped. The price is so low right now that i bought some steem too. I've started posting as well .

  • @whatsup(76)· 2469d

I have mixed feelings, i am very tempted, but not sure steem is set to be a top performer and the current mood and direction isn't my fav.
