Movies are a kind of escape route for me to get away from the realities of life even if it's just for few hours, but Devil's Gate isn't an escape route at all.

A local woman and her son gets missing in a town Devil's Gate , and an FBI agent, Daria Francis is tasked with finding them. When all the evidences points back at the husband Mr Pritchard, Agent Francis insisted on investigating him even after being warned by the Sheriff not to, she made shocking discoveries that questions her sanity.

I have no idea what point Director Staub was trying to make in this movie. It opens in a captivating manner, a young man trapped in the middle of nowhere but later on the movie had a lot going on without a specific plot. Staub and his crew spent most of the time in the movie trying to make sense of the movie but it seems their efforts proved unsuccessful. For example, we didn't get to know the protagonist Agent Francis well, we only know she's vegan but there have to be something more to her, that will require her attention to the job. Secondly, we didn't get to see why the Sheriff asked Agent Francis not to investigate Mr Pritchard, we didn't get to know each characters individually, the story just goes back and forth without any real plot. It's so sad that Staub's excellent cinematography couldn't save a poor story, the story is just as wack as the creatures in it.
