Excellent With A Surprising Twist || Review Of Don't Make Me Go (2022)@kemmyb827d
Some movie plots are recycled such that they become predictable and the audience knows what to expect. But if anyone dares call this road trip film cliché, I'll beg to disagree, vehemently. After the trailer accidentally jumped on my screen while I was scrolling through YouTube, I knew it was a much watch.
As the movie begins, the suspense builds with a voiceover that says—
“You’re not gonna like the way this story ends, but I think you’re gonna like this story.”
A single father takes his daughter on a road trip after receiving some devastating news from his doctor—he was dying. Unbeknownst to the daughter, the trip was for her to meet her mother who abandoned her when she was a baby and hopefully make a life with her. The trip doesn't go as the father planned. Only one of them returns home. Who was it and what happened on this road trip?

As earlier noted, I will disagree forcefully with anyone who calls Don't Make Me Go (2022) a cliché because it isn't. True, the plot is similar to films like The Fault In Our Stars, My Sister's Keeper, and Now Is Good where a main character is terminally ill and the characters are faced with their mortality. Every scene is sad, everyone is weepy and the characters work on leaving a positive footprint behind. But the way Vera Herbert writes this screenplay and Hannah Marks directs this film, it sets it apart from the clichés. You'll have to see this film to believe me.
Vera Herbert takes the audience on a road trip with the two main characters, Max (played by John Cho) and Wally (played by Mia Issac), and we watch with bated breaths as the father teaches the young daughter how to live independently of him. She immerses us in the emotions surrounding this relationship and when we least expect, topples us over with a surprising twist that delivers an unforeseen ending. This twist is what sets this film apart from the clichés.
I was going to complain about this twist and wish the screenwriter didn't write it that way but on second thoughts, life is unpredictable and things don't often go the way we want them to.
No matter the choices we make, we are confronted with our humanity and frailties at unexpected moments.
Don't Make Me Go is a story of second chances, secrets, love, courage to take risks, and forgiveness. Though there's a little bit of melodramatic scenes typical of teenagers which made me roll my eyes while watching, it's not bad.
The chemistry between John Cho and Mia Isaac is effortless and believable, making them the perfect father-daughter duo in my opinion. Their laughs, hugs and jokes are just so easy and feel real. Their performances are impressive and they embody their characters so well, especially Mia Isaac. She sells the emotions of Wally superbly that you'll think it's real.
I love that Hannah Marks utilises their chemistry to the fullest, wringing out excellent acting from them. They hold the audience's attention especially in their heart-wrenching scenes. The plot and twist are well resolved in my opinion but the visuals are not too good. Some scenes are shadowy with halos and glares that make the lighting awkward. I wish they'd put in more effort into this part of the movie.
Overall, this film is worth watching.Though some viewers may not like the ending, you are warned at the beginning of the film. The acting is superb and the plot is grounded in reality. I'll give it 3.8 stars out of 5.

Both share an interesting dynamic that gradually develops throughout the film progressively but for the better.
Elegí esta película no solo porque es la más reciente que he visto sobre este tema sino por el desarrollo de la historia durante toda la película. Las situaciones en las que ambos se vieron involucrados en ese tiempo que transcurrió les sirvió para unirse un poco más, conocerse más allá de lo superficial y hablar como 2 personas honestas sobre eventos y situaciones que ocurrieron en sus vidas.
I chose this movie not only because it is the most recent I have seen on this subject but because of the development of the story throughout the film. The situations in which both were involved in that time that passed helped them to unite a little more, get to know each other beyond the superficial and talk like 2 honest people about events and situations that occurred in their lives.

Sometimes you have to cross deserts to see the promised land, and that's exactly what happened with this pair. We don't see many of these stories in the movies and there should be more. Esta semana me llevé una bonita sorpresa al encontrarme con esta película. El trailer me apareció recomendado en Youtube y decidí echarle vistazo para ver que tal era y de que iba y vaya que fue un hallazgo interesante, por eso quise compartirla con ustedes esta semana.
This week I had a nice surprise when I found this movie. The trailer was recommended to me on YouTube and I decided to take a look at it to see how it was and what it was about and it was an interesting find, that's why I wanted to share it with you this week.
La película es original de Amazon y tiene como protagonista a John Cho(porque reconocí al actor fue que me interesó ver la película en primer lugar, es un excelente actor) a quien he visto en diversas películas de comedia pero donde poco lo he visto desarrollarse es en otros géneros como el drama, por eso la fui a ver; Cho comparte el papel protagonico con Mia Isaac, primera vez que veo a esta joven actriz actuar en un trabajo audiovisual y me gustó mucho su trabajo.

Durante 1 hora y 49 minutos se viven diversas emociones, ya que el film entra en la categoría de Drama/Comedia, esto permite que el peso de la historia, aunque es un tema serio e importante el que tratan, saben que pueden incluir con facilidad la comedia, aunque sean solo pequeños destellos, para quitar un poco el peso de la tensión dramática que carga la película gracias al guión.
For 1 hour and 49 minutes, various emotions are experienced, since the film falls into the Drama/Comedy category, this allows the weight of the story, although it is a serious and important topic that they deal with, they know that they can easily include the comedy, even if they are just small glimpses, to take some of the weight of the dramatic tension that the film carries thanks to the script.

Poco tengo que decir con respecto a la película, en cuanto a puntos negativos, la verdad es que fue un trabajo muy muy bien hecho. La historia por si sola habla y grita a todo pulmón una situación sumamente interesante, un padre soltero criando a su hija luego de haber sido abandonada por su madre cuando era pequeña. Todo tiene una explicación y tendrán que ver el film para conocer más a fondo esa situación.
I have little to say about the film, in terms of negative points, the truth is that it was a very, very well done job. Para alguien como yo, que tengo en mi cabeza la idea de hacer un guión con un tema similar para un cortometraje, fue una inspiración desde el punto de vista del guión. La dirección estuvo muy bien hecha, una joven actriz, guionista y directora, Hannah Marks, realizó un excelente trabajo dirigiendo esta película, siendo ésta la más grande producción que ha realizado en su carrera; teniendo este film como punto de referencia para presentar e impulsar su carrera, creo que tiene asegurado un futuro interesante en la industria.
For someone like me, who has in my head the idea of making a script with a similar theme for a short film, it was an inspiration from a script point of view. The direction was very well done, a young actress, writer and director, Hannah Marks, did an excellent job directing this film, this being the biggest production she has done in her career; Having this film as a point of reference to present and promote her career, I think she is assured of an interesting future in the industry.
Los momentos de comedia son presentados en cantidades pequeñas y directas, no sobran ni se roban las escenas, eso me gustó mucho, no hay necesidad de ser explícitos para sacar una carcajada y este film tiene ese factor peculiar. El final sin duda es inesperado, si no prestas atención a lo que ocurre desde el segundo 00:00 te va a sorprender lo que ocurrirá.
The comedy moments are presented in small and direct amounts, they are not superfluous or scene-stealing, I liked that a lot, there is no need to be explicit to get a laugh and this film has that peculiar factor. The ending is definitely unexpected, if you don't pay attention to what happens from the second 00:00 you will be surprised by what will happen.
Está de más hacerles la recomendación porque técnicamente los invité a verla desde el primer párrafo y espero de verdad puedan verla porque está muy bien hecha en todos los sentidos.
