“Barefoot”, by Zaharia Stancu, is one of those books that make you wonder whether there are still people living in such conditions around the world. The plot covers a period spanning over a few decades in the early 20th century. It takes place in pre-communist Romania, and describes the life of a young boy who lives and grows up in a Romanian village.
