The film is about a thirteen-year-old girl named Mei, who is very responsible, always does well in school, and has a group of very kind and outgoing friends, with whom she shares a love for a boy band called 4Town.
While at school she gives the impression of being a free-spirited and charismatic girl, she actually leads a double life: at home, she tries to be the perfect daughter to please her strict and overprotective mother, Ming, who often demands rigid behavior from her, while her father, Jin, is much calmer and more understanding. In my case, it's the complete opposite. My dad is very strict, and my mom is a sweetheart, although sometimes not so much.😑
Everything changes one night after suffering a great public humiliation at the hands of her mother. This leaves her very upset, and she goes to bed. As she falls asleep, she wakes up from a disturbing dream. Mei realizes she has transformed into a huge red panda. To return to normal, she discovers she has to stay calm and breathe deeply, something that is very difficult for her at first.
Mei tells her mother about the dream, and her mother explains that this dream is an ancestral blessing that happens to all the women in the family when they reach puberty, a pact with a spirit that originally served to protect their ancestors in times of war.
To get rid of the panda, Mei has to wait until the next full moon to seal the spirit in an amulet, just like her mother, grandmother, and aunts did.
When Mei returns to school, she tries to keep the secret, but it's impossible, and her friends find out. However, far from being scared, they adore the panda. When they learn that 4*Town is coming to town, they decide to secretly use the panda's popularity to raise money for their incredibly expensive tickets. Unfortunately, her mother discovers the plan, and Mei, under pressure and desperate not to disappoint her, blames everything on her friends, temporarily breaking up their friendship. I've personally experienced this reaction from Mei with my classmates and siblings, but I've always managed to cope.
Finally, the night of the full moon arrives, coinciding with the concert. In the middle of the ritual, Mei decides to stay with her red panda because she's grown accustomed to it, she's fond of it, and she feels it represents her most authentic self. When the ceremony ends, she runs away to the stadium to apologize to her friends. Her mother, furious at the disobedience, breaks her own amulet and transforms into a giant panda, unleashing chaos at the concert. With the help of her friends, her father, and the family matriarchs, they manage to restrain her.
On a spiritual level, Mei manages to connect with and apologize to a younger, more vulnerable version of her mother, understanding that all her demands and restrictions stemmed from her own past traumas and that she didn't act out of malice.
In the end, although the entire family decides to lock up their pandas again, Mei is the only one who chooses to keep hers. The film closes with a beautiful ending where she remains a good daughter while also being herself, helping her mother accept her individuality and building a much healthier, more chaotic, and lasting family balance.
It's a lovely film that taught me that even though we sometimes don't meet other people's expectations, we can find a balance to remain true to ourselves, and that it's always important to express what we feel, even if others don't like it.

Hola chicos, espero estén muy bien y este día sea muy bonito. La reseña del día de hoy se trata sobre una hermosa película llamada RED que ví hace mucho tiempo y quiero contarles mi experiencia.
La película trata sobre una niña de trece años llamada Mei, la cual es muy responsable, siempre le va bien en la escuela y tiene un grupo de amigas muy amables y extrovertidas, con quienes comparte el gusto por una banda de chicos llamada 4Town.
Mientras ella en la escuela da la impresión de ser una chica libre y carismática, en realidad lleva una doble vida: en su casa intenta ser la hija perfecta para complacer a su estricta y sobreprotectora madre, Ming, quien a menudo le exige comportamientos rígidos, mientras que su papá, Jin, es mucho más calmado y comprensivo. En mi caso es todo lo contrario mi papá es muy estricto y mi mami es un amor, aunque a veces no tanto😑
Todo cambia una noche, tras sufrir una gran humillación pública por culpa de su madre. Este hecho la deja muy alterada y se acuesta, al dormirse se despierta de un sueño inquietante, Mei se da cuenta de que se ha transformado en un enorme panda rojo. Para volver a la normalidad, descubre que tiene que mantenerse calmada y respirar profundo, algo que al principio le resulta muy complicado.
Mei le cuenta el sueño a su mamá y ésta le explica que ese sueño es una bendición ancestral que les ocurre a todas las mujeres de la familia al llegar a la pubertad, un pacto con un espíritu que originalmente servía para proteger a sus antepasados en tiempos de guerra.
Para deshacerse del panda, Mei tiene que esperar hasta la próxima luna llena para sellar al espíritu en un amuleto, tal como hicieron su madre, su abuela y sus tías.
Cuando Mei regresa a la escuela, intenta guardar el secreto, pero le resulta imposible y sus amigas se enteran. Sin embargo, lejos de asustarse, ellas adoran al panda. Al saber que 4*Town viene a la ciudad, deciden usar la popularidad del panda en secreto para recaudar dinero y pagarse las entradas, que están carísimas. Desafortunadamente, la madre descubre el plan y Mei, bajo presión y desesperada por no decepcionarla, culpa de todo a sus amigas, lo que rompe temporalmente su amistad. Está reacción de Mei la he sufrido personalmente yo con mis compañeras de clases y mis hermanos pero he sabido sobrellevarlas.
Finalmente llega la noche de la luna llena, que coincide con el concierto. En medio del ritual, Mei decide quedarse con su panda rojo porque se ha acostumbrado a él, le tiene cariño y siente que representa su lado más auténtico. Al romper la ceremonia, huye hacia el estadio para disculparse con sus amigas. Su madre, furiosa por la desobediencia, rompe su propio amuleto y se convierte en un panda gigante que desata el caos en el concierto. Con la ayuda de sus amigas, su padre y las matriarcas de la familia, logran contenerla.
En el plano espiritual, Mei logra conectar y disculparse con una versión joven y vulnerable de su madre, entendiendo que todas sus exigencias y restricciones eran causadas por sus propios traumas del pasado y que no lo hacía por mal.
Al final, aunque toda la familia decide encerrar de nuevo a sus pandas, Mei es la única que elige conservar el suyo. La película cierra con un final hermoso donde ella sigue siendo una buena hija, pero a la vez es ella misma, logrando que su madre acepte su individualidad y construyendo un equilibrio familiar mucho más sano, caótico y duradero.
Es una linda película que me enseñó que aunque a veces no cumplimos las expectativas de los demás, podemos encontrar un equilibrio para no dejar de ser nosotros mismos y que es importante siempre manifestar lo que sentimos aunque no sea del agrado de los demás.
