I'm not sure how you feel about the 7-day period that a Hive post has in order to get rewarded, but sometimes I find it a bit odd that it's limited that way. Some people have suggested that Hive posts should have more time to earn rewards. In fact, there have been discussions in the past about the idea of "evergreen" content.

At first, I wasn’t really interested in the concept, since I’ve gotten used to the current reward system. I mean, it’s been like this for as long as I can remember, and it’s never changed. I guess making a major change like that might not be ideal—it could potentially have a catastrophic impact on the entire ecosystem if we tamper with it. It seems much safer to stick with a system that already works rather than risk breaking it.
That said, I'm still hopeful that someday, a smart contract could be implemented on top of the current system to make evergreen content feasible. I’m not sure if it’s even possible, but hopefully someone will figure out a way to make it happen.
So, why did I suddenly start thinking about this again? Well, it’s because of my recent TikTok experience that brought the idea back to mind. I had been inactive on TikTok for about a week—I hadn’t even opened the app. A combination of a busy week and some health issues led me to take a short break from posting.
But then, earlier today, I decided to open the app and post a new video. To my surprise, I had tons of notifications—LOL. I honestly wasn’t expecting that at all. I’m so used to how things work here on Hive: if I don’t post anything or engage with anyone for a week, my notifications will definitely be zero. Usually, only my most recent post gets any engagement. A post that’s even just a day old often doesn’t get any more attention—no upvotes, no comments. That’s just how things typically go on Hive.
So, naturally, I’d assume that if I stay inactive here for a week, I won’t receive any engagement or notifications either.
But TikTok works differently, and that’s because of the platform’s algorithm. It continues to work in the background, pushing content even when the creator is inactive. My video posts kept getting views and engagement during the week I was offline. In fact, I even gained five new followers during that time.
It’s fascinating to think about the possibilities—what if Hive posts could continue generating engagement or even rewards weeks, months, or years after being published? As long as people still find the content relevant, they could still upvote it and provide the rewards they believe it deserves. That could really change the dynamics of content creation on Hive. I imagine it would encourage users to focus more on producing high-quality, long-lasting content.
Personally, I’d probably invest more in the production value of my posts if I knew they had the potential to earn continuously over time. But then again, maybe that kind of model just isn’t workable here on Hive—for reasons I might not fully understand.
In the end, every platform has its own unique system, and Hive’s 7-day reward window is part of what defines it. Still, imagining a future where content remains evergreen and continuously appreciated is an exciting thought. Whether or not it becomes a reality, it's always worth exploring how we can evolve while preserving what already works.
