For the year 2010 Alejandro Duran made a trip to Mexico in the area of Cancun where biodiversity abounds and the landscapes are beautiful, but not only was found with these wonders, but with a large amount of waste coming by action of the tide from different places on the planet.

When he returned to New York his place of residence was put in plan to devise a project that title Washed Up that consists of 9 photographs which were exposed in a collective exhibition Calumet Photographic in Manhattan.

Among the amazing things I had to do the artist was to spend more than 10 days in a tent at a time where a hurricane was approaching and torrential rains were strong, was dedicated in that time to select the garbage by color, reheating large amounts then redistribute in strategic sites as natural scenarios where light at certain times gave excellent results for landscape photography.

Some recurrent wastes were 200 flip-flops that are in his work stream, and more than 600 white bottles that I use in his work dawn.

In addition Alejandro Durán is an integral artist is poet, painter, photographer and educator, the central idea of his work denounces the consumerism that generates pollution in natural spaces, demonstrating in his works that garbage comes from at least 42 countries, some as far away as Japan or Indonesia. This is shown in his sculpture Sian Ka`an where you can appreciate a river and forms that identify these natural monuments.

The saddest thing is that this area that I inspire is protected by UNESCO as a natural reserve, to this is added that in the area there is no established policy for the management of garbage that at least allows to clean up the natural sites through collection.

Alejandro Durán does not rule out carrying out a rescue plan for these places with his company The Digital Project with which he has created numerous educational projects linked to the use of technology where the main financiers are MoMa and Columbia University. With this company he hopes to raise funds that will allow arts workshops and environmental education for children in the city of Punta Allen where the reserve is located.

Creative Recycling is his most recent project that has driven thanks to this series of photographs where he puts as a starting point the good use of waste not to interfere in natural spaces, the headquarters of this project is in the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.

Thinking that this was born thanks to the idea of collecting garbage and sorting it by size, colors and then fit them into different landscapes, after taking these photos all the used garbage was moved out of the spaces, bone made a sanitation and step art genre, better impossible, The idea of denouncing through the garbage is something grotesque but shocking for the rulers who apparently do not care if they do not receive subsidies from UNESCO to maintain these spaces, also UNESCO which has very interesting projects, should monitor the funds it allocates in this case to protect various natural areas.
