As the number of plants on my balcony grew over the last few years, I always dreaded the day when it would be time to move. Eventually, it had to happen. Now I can officially confirm that my succulents have become real travellers. Of course, they didn't pay for the transport ticket because we took care of that. We were also the ones who packed and carried them to their new home - their new balcony.
My biggest doubt was how to transport them without breaking a lot of branches. For example, as Ruby Blush. It was so fuzzy and difficult to move it without making it harm... In the end, I packed it in a cardboard box and it was not so problematic (although there were a lot of fallen leaves and some broken branches). I had to throw away all of those but I kept a few that will be planted in a new pot. By the way, I gave away one pot from the same plant to save it from moving, and I also left one cactus in the old place.
On the other hand, some others suffered more damage and lost many leaves while I was moving them.
The easiest ones were the big ones, like the Crassula Ovata. You can see it shared a seat with a fan so I gave them a discount on the ticket price. 😂
Aloe Vera was the last one we moved into the new place. We wrapped it in a paper bag to protect it while carrying it into the car. That was a very heavy pot... I wanted to give it away too as I was already tired from the whole month of moving stuff but luckily my husband insisted on taking it with us. He said it was part of our family, and indeed, it is 12 years old, we found it almost half dead and with a bit of care and water, it survived and grew huge over all these years.
In this photo, it looks like an item that is on sale. 😂
My poor plants. I guess it was stressful for them too, but now we are getting there to find their definite place on the new balcony. At the moment all of this is provisional. Like, how a plant can live on a plastic paint bucket that I just put there until we use it? 😆 It even has a little shelf/table thing that will be used for it but without the paint bucket, of course.
The fuzzy one has got a cool stand from where the branches can hang, but the other smaller pots are at the moment on the top of the outside coffee tables. I still didn't get there to drink my morning coffee on the balcony as the plants occupied the table... (well, I can hold my mug in my hand maybe hahaha? 🤔)
I think Aloe Vera will be fine in this corner.
Weather... so, they will have to get used to the new weather conditions. This balcony gets sun from the early morning until the middle of the afternoon (when I took the photos it was cloudy). It means much more sun than they had until now. Plus, they faced for the first time rain... and it already rained several times.
That mix of a lot of sun and sudden rain that lasts for a few minutes and then again sun was not the best thing for this guy. I think he got sunburned.
I still have one of these Graptosedums although he lost many leaves in the transport. It is enough that you touch it a bit and the leaves fall. They are so fragile.
A few succulents got their place inside. It was cold one evening so I took them inside, made this little collage and liked it. They are now living in my husband's office. I hope they will like the inside life, and if not they can always find a small corner in the balcony, once we make a stand for them or hang the pots on the fence. Time will tell how the pots will be organized in their new place. 🍀
