It's been over two weeks since the last Beer Saturday Challenge was posted by @detlev . Also, I already have covered Indio Beer, on more than one occasion. But never mind, there is a good reason to write one more Indio post, and that is their not-so-common agave variety.
Not so common means exactly what it sounds like. You really have to look for it. My wife told me once that she tried it at a party, and quite liked the taste. Since then ... or rather since I've returned to Mexico, I've been trying to find it. Impossible! I even got to the point where I decided that it was a limited edition, or something. And then, suddenly, while not even looking for it, I see it in a shop.
Immediately I bought a bottle. The ones she tried came in tiny bottles, but at the place I found it, they sell it in the (almost) one Liter size. Interestingly, the price is extraordinarily low. Instead of 50 pesos for a caguama (the returnable 1L bottles), when you return an empty bottle, this one costs 40 pesos, and the bottle is not even returnable. That kinda makes it the cheapest beer around! Could it be because it's not even beer? Well...
It sure looks like beer, it tastes like beer, and with 6% alcohol is certainly feels like beer. As for the agave taste... honestly, I couldn't tell. But then again, I don't actually know what agave tastes like. Mezcal, or tequila maybe? Sorry, not my expertise. However, I have to admit, this is not the tastiest beer overall. So much so, that I don't mind mixing it with tibicos (water kefir). Looking at the last image, it did not change the color of the drink one bit.
